Not to mention that the quality of your food, air, and water directly impacts your health, so therefore none of us have "total control" over our own bodies.

You're delusional if you really believe that.

Try getting an abortion in Mississippi or Alabama. No control over your own body in those states. Try getting an organ transplant in a Catholic run hospital...ain't gonna happen.

Factors that people cannot control include air pollution, chemicals in both food and cosmetics, and poor working/living conditions. (Take for example, the factory collapse in Bangladesh).

I mean, in an ideal world, people would have total control over their bodies, but that clearly isn't true. Anyone could end up with diabetes, cancer, or in a horrible accident that they didn't cause.

I know people who do and don't like the Affordable Care Act. I asked some who don't if they found any comfort/fellowship in this sort of 'protest' of it by suddenly after not working on the main job making delay of it a condition for finally doing that job. I try to see something good in things usually. Apparently they are just mad at both sides now is all. The tea party people were saying for years they would shut down things and I don't see why they are not owning what they have now achieved. Perhaps Obama has some blame in meeting past extortion style demands, rewarding that sort of rule breaking?

I see one side with an ever growing list of hated enemies and see little future to them. I also see some sensible and non-extreme Republicans and hope they begin to get more attention instead of the stunt obsessed and name-calling reckless younger types.

Abortion: I am against it for the most part, but the best people to make the decisions are the people directly involved and trained and informed doctors, not politicians. It should be available, but so should all the birth control methods to avoid such drastic situations from happening in the first place as much as possible. There should be limitations on abortion that are wide enough and broad-based in wisdom but past that it should be about health and not religious ideas.

Talk about the government being involved in your health care; it seems like the religious fanatics among the politicians are the main ones actually doing that! Freedom seems to be a very subjective thing for some. Some in their extremism do not want to 'allow' anything for abortion, nor same-sex marriage and parenting, but then want even the mentally insane to have military weaponry in civilian neighborhoods (for safety of all things, maybe they should consider the sacred fetus could possibly be shot as well?).

May God grant a renewed balance to my closest neighbor!

More and more people are blaming (Obama and) Harry Reid, who has been called "COLD-hearted" by conservatives in the news media! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3acr9OfFhTg

There needs to be a nation-wide "Ignore" button for Michele Bachmann. Woman is frightening.

Agreed, but i saw some recent ratings thing saying Fox (which has these tea party talking heads on the most) was still the most watched 'news' channel.

Can you imagine deliberately, knowingly, getting your information from a source that leaves out half the info most of the time? I saw through Limbaugh and Michael Moore ages ago and would be very careful about any info I got through either. Sadly there are more and more of these half-truth manufactured outrage merchants in the U.S. than ever, I think at one time such things were against FCC regulations. I suppose this is a case where throwing away regulations (that took years of hard experience to show the need to create) did stimulate the economy (Limbaugh makes around 50 million a year last I heard) but the price to the public I think has been too steep.

For me the only way to approach news is going to many sources as possible and then thinking through the differences and similarities in reporting for myself. Anyway I get most of my news online now, cable news is too vulnerable to the requirements of ratings to not get annoying at some point or other. Maybe it stimulates the industry economically but it also creates an arms race of sensationalism that nobody wins, and yes I agree the responsibility to the public that the media is supposed to have trumps that. Journalism in general isn't the cash cow that's going to save the country anyway.

I'm just gonna say it. The mandate to purchase health insurance sucks. I know it does. If you don't have insurance and you are suddenly faced with the prospect of buying it, it's scary, expensive and overwhelming and it would be easier to go back to the status quo.

No.

The status quo is what got us here.

I have employer provided coverage, though they pay only a portion and I pay a portion. Year after year after year, the premiums go up. Sometimes that increase is mine to shoulder, and sometimes my employer covers it. My plan is over $7K annually. These constant increases in price are *the direct result* of increases in the cost of healthcare. The increases in costs of healthcare are the direct result of *two* things: greed, and the uninsured mooching off the system by getting their sore throats and ankle spraigns checked out in hospital ER rooms.

We might not be able to stop greed, but we can stop people from being unisured.

Now, let's not forget, almost everyone, universally, who supports the ACA was probably in favor of a universal, single-payer program covered by taxes. Medicare, for everyone. It would have been perfect. It's what other countries do, it works, and with the proper regulations it can control costs. But oh no, Conservatives in this great nation opposed that - it's too expensive, it will never work, it's Hillarycare, no one wants a government nanny, lines will be long, care will be rationed, there will be death panels - every dishonest, outright false fear tactic in the book was used to prevent an expandsion of Medicare for all from coming into being. Conservatives had a better idea - it's about *personal responsibility* they said. It's a private marketplace - lets keep it that way, they said. Let's just enact a mandate to purchase health insurance, they said, and costs will come down. They even did it in Massachusetts, with a Republican governor who called it his 'landmark' and 'career defining' legislation.

So that's what happened. The conservative right got what they wanted. They fought tooth and nail to make sure Americans did not get a socialized medical insurance plan that covered *all* Americans. They wanted the mandate, and now they've got it. They wanted their cake, and to eat it too.

Enjoy. I'm sure it's delicious.

Thumbs down Here's what sucks

Insurance companies suck, all of them, they win when your healthy and when your sick --- now that everyone must pay them.

Get rid of companies that profit from illness.

As long as Insurance company lobbyist are allowed to control ($$$) both houses of congress, you will not control health costs.

Major tax reform is needed to get rid of this corrupt economy.

We got the best government (members of Congress) that money can buy.

Do you remember the movie Network with Faye Dunaway? She reminds me of the crazy anchorman who kills himself on air. She is someone who I know wants End of Days...

What the Tea Baggers are doing is downright TREASON. They all should be arrested, tried (and obviously convicted), then SHOT!!

As I was talking to a friend the other night. As he said .Probably with the mandate. They want to get rid of all the freeloaders out of the hospital emergency rooms and Doctors offices because of they are costing millions to the medical system and the state tax payers to pay their way.

I can see where he was coming from on that.
