Stevie's taste in pop culture can be bewildering at times ..The Twilight movies
but at least Moonlight is a good song.I have to agree with Vivifox's plan for Katy Perry though.

Come on. Phillip Phillips was a popular contestant at the time, but it's not like he was already a star when Stevie started praising him.

Stevie pays attention to trends--what's hot and what's not. She is fighting for her band and her legacy. The way to do that is to be embraced by youth and it's working. Without all the networking, Fleetwood Mac wouldn't be able to fill up a high school gym. |

Her Crossroads with LA is something I could see being viewed as more of a shrewd career move. But then, it's equally likely she just likes that band, too. I suppose nobody knows what's really going on in Stevie's mind, but when she says she likes something that I think is crap, I think the likely scenario is that she's being honest. She waxed on about Wide Sargasso Sea, after all, and that's a pretty obscure piece of crap. |

P.S. you don't know the things some other artists do to network and get their music played. What she is doing is not unusual but she has been extremely successful. |

I don't know what goes on in the hearts and minds of recording artists, but I see no reason to assume that this particular statement was purely motivated by networking. |

I wouldn't be surprised if Stevie likes some of Christine's pop ditties, and they're nothing like what she would write or probably sing. Not saying I personally like Katy Perry anywhere near as much as Christine McVie (or at all), but an artist can like artists very different from themselves, it does happen. Sometimes they might even prefer the difference just to not overdose on one kind of stimulation. I remember on the Tusk documentary Stevie said that when she was writing "Angel" she intended it to be light and fun and wanted it to contrast with the usual heavy intense stuff she usually wrote. Sometimes variety is just nice.
Also, some people just do not think pop music is anything to feel guilty or embarrassed about. That's just their philosophy. They may like Bob Dylan and Britney Spears both, because they fulfill and please them in different ways, and for them there's no dissonance to struggle with because they accept that that's okay. I don't like Katy Perry, but I sure did crank up "Call Me Maybe" my share of times last year, and maybe I should've been embarrassed but ... I really wasn't, because to me that's a waste of time. I wouldn't be surprised to know that Stevie (and Mick) finds it wiser in some political way to praise young people instead of condemning them for not being as good as the music of yesteryear. If rock'n'roll is essentially the anthem of youthful rebellion, then "Get off my lawn you ****ing whipper snappers" is maybe a little tough to justify (not that newness is the only reason to dislike Katy Perry, but it's certainly a contrast between her and Stevie). But still, I don't think Stevie would've said she liked the song if she actually didn't like the song. She sometimes does criticize things about "nowadays" after all. Plus I think in another thread recently someone posted a quote of her where she said she wasn't very in touch with current music, so there you are, top 40's just more accessible and everything else has moved into their own niches and are harder to find, especially if you're internet-challenged which Stevie Nicks seems to be. I won't defend Twilight But I'm not surprised it's up her alley. |

Katy has not go off the wall yet to get attention like Miley has lately.
Miley is all to hear on the entertainment news now. Now Miley is going to get her bottom of her feet tattooed.

I think those who say they don't believe she likes Katy say that because they can't bear their idol like something they don't like.
![]() Stevie seems the type of person who likes these kind of things, honestly.

She is very smart and kissed the right ass. Because of her intelligence, Fleetwood Mac is enjoying a resurgence. I wonder when she will tell the press that she would love to be stuck on a desert island with Miley Cyrus because she has the voice of an angel. Or, "on the 8th day, God created Lana Del Rey!" Or Justin Beiber "makes me all puffy down there." She is a fighter! And the rest of Fleetwood Mac should be thankful, because other artists and their managers are doing worse things to be heard. |

http://articles.philly.com/2013-10-1...kris-humphries Katy says she's become gal-pals with another unknown artist. "I actually just became friends with a fantastic woman named Stevie Nicks," says Katy. Never heard of her. "She is a beautiful woman, and I hope to have tea with her in London. She just has so many little nuggets of wisdom and, you know, kind of sees straight through my soul." |
