So, her dad basically grew up without his father. That's something I didn't know.

So, there were 3 boys. I wonder if Jess was oldest, middle or youngest.

If the site I just checked was correct, Jess was middle. Bill was oldest and Gene was youngest.

That's true. Barbara and Jess must have had similar backgrounds, although I think Barb's was harder.

Jess' should have been hard too. I don't know how his dad could have supported a family of five with pool hustling and occasional singing.

Of course, I don't know how Stevie singlehandedly supported herself, Lindsey AND Richard on her waitress' salary either. Those Nickses really know how to stretch a dollar.
