Default Twisted

I've known this beatiful song not long ago. I heard the two different versions of it: and I thought that it could have been one a great hit, it's a shame that it is relatively unknown song. Do you think that in other times it could have been a commercial success?
What I love about this record is the chance to hear Stevie and Lindsey singing together on a excellent song. Stevie does a marvellous work at backing vocals/ harmonies almost more so than at Lead Vocals: I love the drama she imparts to "the sun goes down, crazy men, crazy women" at the end.

Never understood why Stevie and Lindsey didn't perform this on the 1997, 2003 & 2013 tours. The movie was a huge success.

I love the solo version released on Enchanted, but the film version is just-ok and I don't think made much of a splash with the general filmgoing public. I was under the impression Stevie wasn't crazy about Lindsey's involvement either.

I agree that the mid-90s just wasn't a time where this sort of folky tune would be a commercial hit, but it might've done well in earlier eras, sure. It might even do well today, if it was covered by the right artist.

Didn't think it was in the film, just on the soundtrack?

I have never heard Stevie even remotely say anything to suggest any opinion on Lindsey being on the song. The most detail was given by Lindsey in The Dance rehearsal video and it was mostly technical. She did say in her Enchanted liner notes that the movie was "her story". I've never heard how he came to be the producer or play and sing on the track, but I thought his involvement was truly appropriate. In fact, I feel the soundtrack version was an unexpected glimpse into what a current (for 1996) Buckingham Nicks would have sounded like. The bridge made the song complete and would not have been effective without Lindsey's presence - his vocals, his guitar work and his production.

It's one of my favorites.

The demo version touches me. It was one of the true gems off Enchanted and one of the best things she has down in last 20 years.

The movie version was bland.

Maybe it wasn't in the film. I only saw it once when it was relatively new. I just assumed it was in the credits somewhere.

I distinctly remember Stevie explaining that her choice to include the demo version of Twisted in Enchanted was because she disliked the final version of the song, and that the producers "didn't understand her vision" for it. I got the impression that Lindsey's involvement was pushed on her for commercial reasons, but that may be my own conjecture. I can't find the source or remember exactly what was said, sadly.

Generally I just find the soundtrack version to sound a lot clunkier, and yes, blander. There's a heaviness to the instrumentation that doesn't fit with the song, for me. The climactic final minute of the soundtrack version is lovely, though.

The song is featured in the movie, but only a portion of it, and it's very faint in the background. It's been too long since I've seen it to remember which scene.

I went to see this at the theater when it came out. The song was very prominent and loud. Later, was disappointed when i saw it on tv, you can barely hear it.

There's also the third version that Stevie performed live on the Enchanted tour.

Although, Stevie may prefer her 1996 demo over the one with Lindsey, I think she too feels that it is reminiscent of BN.

She told Jim Ladd that Twister was similar:

So when I went to sequence this whole thing, I didn't want to do it chronologically, I wanted to do songs that sounded good next to each other and it didn't matter if it was 1973 Buckingham Nicks or 1997 Twister. So that's why on the beginning of the third disc it has Twister going into Long Distance Winner. It's amazing how those two songs show what an incredible detour I went around to get from singing fairly the same to singing fairly the same on a fairly similar song.

Again I seem to have the tin ear here, and cannot see how anyone would prefer the droning and dreary Enchanted version of this to the sonically lush soundtrack version.

Meh. One person's "lush" is another person's "heavy-handed, abrasive overproduction" I guess. I don't see how the light, sweeping guitar on the demo version could ever be considered droning and dreary, though.

Stevie always loves her demos. Still have never heard her make that kind of comment on this one though.

That quote was funny.

Exactly - and I'm all for a mandolin.
