Default Am I the only one doing this???

I don't really contribute to the Ledge that much these days, but I tend to check in fairly regularly just to see if any of the members of Fleetwood Mac have died. I found out about the death's of two of the three Bob's that way, so now I feel that I have to check in regularly.

Is that just me?

I usually check in (read posts) once a day still, but honestly, most of my friends from here, no longer come here, so it just feels different now.

We keep up on FB now. Actually 5 Ledgies spent the weekend at my house, 2 weekends ago. We.had.a.ball. Seriously, I will forever be in debt to The Ledge, for putting a few people into my life, that I'm positive our friendships will last our lifetimes.
We called it Fleetwood Macstock 13. We had SO MUCH fun, that we're doing Part II in 3 weeks. Greatness(and hangovers) will happen! I've never met people who make me laugh so much. But I still love the Ledge, even though it's morphed into something else...

I wish you two, and other long-term members, would become more active again. So many of our longest running members have gone MIA, and I think it's a shame. So much knowledge & experience has gone out the door. But I understand... being a Fleetwood Mac fan in 2013 just isn't the same as it was a decade + ago. There's just not a whole lot of new stuff to discuss.

You know, I still READ most of the posts every day. But having been here for 10 years, I've pretty much said everything I feel about the band, 10 times over(probably more, lol). So there's just a point of feeling redundant, at least for me.

And I know it was really clique-y before, but those bonds seemed stronger than the friendships I see here now. Hell, "my" clique spent the weekend at my house last week. And my clique left here(and they don't even read the posts here, anymore, like I do), so of course it just doesn't feel the same, now... When I do post, I maybe get a response 25% of the time, so it's not reciprocal.

But whatevs, I still care about the Ledge, and again, will always feel indebted to, for allowing me to form a few real life friendships here.

It's difficult, isn't it? I check the Ledge every day as well, and sometimes feel disappointed that there hasn't been much discussion since the previous day, but then I myself often find I just don't really have anything to add anywhere either, opinion-wise.

Part of it is the state of Fleetwood Mac these days, but part of it, I think, is the rise of new social media like Twitter and Facebook eclipsing forums like this as people's "home bases" on the internet. People go primarily to those websites to natter about things and engage each other, nowadays. I certainly do. But it's a shame because the discussions those websites foster just aren't the same as forums like this. But I think I've had this rant on here before. "Facebook Killed the Internet Forum" could be sung to the tune of "Video Killed the Radio Store", although the lyrics would be a bit clunky. Hey, I don't claim to be a poet!

Anyway, to answer the OP's question: No, it doesn't even occur to me that one of the members of the band may have died overnight. My motivation for checking these forums daily is quite different. But I'm glad to know you do pop in, whatever your reasons, chriskisn. Just cause I think you're rather nifty.

I don't post as much because my interest in FM has waned to almost non existent. The EP helped do that. But I do check in.

This is my favorite website. Traffic here is immense the first night of a Stevie N. or FM tour. Everyone is excited to see the set list on those days. There is still plenty to keep me interested. I may not always have something to say and sometimes I'm just too lazy to type but I am interested in what other fans feel and write.
I never think about any of the band members dying. I feel they are going to live very long lives and we will have many more tours to enjoy.

I know what you mean. I listened to the EP once, and it enraged me & broke my heart at the same time. After waiting a decade for a new album, it was a slap in the face and a spit in the eye. The material is just so uninspired & dull... very half assed. You'd think if they were only releasing 4 songs after a decade, those songs would at least be pretty amazing.

This kind of forced me to finally admit that Fleetwood Mac has died, and Say You Will was it's last gasp. There will be no new amazing albums from Fleetwood Mac; they are simply an oldies touring act who has lost their muse. Since this realization I've simply tried to focus my love on the band that once was, not what Fleetwood Mac has decayed to. In the end I will always hold a soft spot for their music, which was the soundtrack to my coming of age.

Can I just say, I really enjoy the fact that our most active Chit Chat topic in ages is all about how inactive we all are. That just kinda tickles me.

Maybe I'm just easily tickled, though. We're awesome, you guys.

I check the Ledge regularly because its so up to date info on tour info and other doings with the band and its members .

I drift in and out like a radio station at night on posting here. I post 25 or so posts in the same day or dont post for days or weeks later.I do the same on the other forums too.

Speaking of people dying .Years back I found out the hard way of losing a couple of friends because I dont receive the local newspaper. Now I check the obits online.

One example was calling up to find out how my friend was doing as his wife answered .

"Skip did you see the death notice in the paper.Charlie died about a month ago."

I felt like a piece a crap and apologize to her and told her I'm sorry about your loss .

What I like is Stevie/Lindsey and the band are attracting the younger generation to love and enjoying their music like I did in the 1970's when I was their age.

Well, Lindsey was always the creative force(duh), and I think he just has too many things on his plate, to really be creative with FM, anymore. Wife, kids, FM, solo,....it's just added up.....INTO FM becoming what it is. A money making machine. I'm not faulting them for that, but it makes me sad, nonetheless.

I can understand that. I feel some the same way as you.
But my relationship with the Mac ended on a more positive
note. I knew it was goodbye on the Say You Will Tour. And
I really wasn't sad about it.

They had given me so much pleasure over the years I didn't
feel there was anything left for them or me to give. It was done,
or completed. I walked away a happy man after that last show.

And if it weren't for the people who had never had the chance
to see them in concert until these last couple of tours, I wish
Fleetwood Mac would have walked away too.

The thing that pissed me off about the EP....it's Lindsey solo. I mean.....come on. He just slapped Stevie on it ala SYW. Now I love me some Lindsey, but it was not what I was gearing myself towards. It's Obvious....at least to me that Stevie wants nothing to do with FM...So why should I care anymore. If they give me a solid reason....I will be all ears.

Mick
