Not trashy, redtulip. Eclectic!! Mine is the same. I have ornaments from my childhood, and from my husband's childhood, and special ones from friends and family over the years. We get one for my son each year, that represented what he was most into that year (dino when he was 5, Thomas the Tank when he was 6, etc.). I would never do a theme tree, or one color. It's more about the memories for me. The Holiday Road ornament fits right in and I got the Clark with Christmas lights one too, as my family never misses watching Christmas Vacation during the season

My theme is family. I return to Michigan for Christmas, so I don't get to enjoy my tree. But I use family ornaments, all with some kind of holiday connection. My brother and I picked out different ones each year when we were growing up and when he died I took his. Meanwhile, my mother has built up a whole set of new ornaments selected by his children and now THEIR children (my mother has two great grandchildren now and my brother would be a grandfather, which is hard to think about, for me).

When my grandmother died, I took all of her ornaments, which she saved from her own childhood and collected for her five children back in the 1930s and 1940s. So, I took all of those. When my uncles found out I had them, they were upset (as they were upset to learn that I had my grandmother's photos), but I use them and they don't. I don't know why they want things that they would just keep out in the garage in a box anyway. And with the family photos, I made digital copies of all the albums and gave them to everyone, which none of them would have done and which was necessary, because some of the pictures (a few over 100 years old) were deteriorating and returning to dust anyway.

But I love the ornaments and cherish finding a way to make all the decades fit together and link to each other somehow, like I might put all the Father Christmas and Santa ones on adjoining branches to see how the image has evolved over the years. Or there are about 5 that remind me of Dickens characters and I like to put them on the same side of the tree. And I like to spread the ones with gold or red in them out over the tree, so when you stand back from it the hints of color stand out. I like to use the color of the ornaments to make the tree sparkle more than I like to use lightbulbs.

No w, I have this Holiday Road ornament, but I wouldn't put it on my tree. It doesn't put me in the Christmas spirit, but I do remember the movie Grisworld family's cursed efforts to make it to Wally World and I also have to think of Imogene Coca when I look at it.

Michele

These are the Christine coasters I got from Etsy, made from her album (the holder is the vinyl LP). I should go get my Fleetwood Mac teddy bear and let them all keep each other company.

Yes, this is what we do too! Nothing matches but most of it has some sort of meaning. I have quite a few Coke and Beatles ornaments, plus some special ones from when I was a kid. Plus ornaments made by my kids, some of my husband's, etc. Nothing matches but it looks nice to us because it has meaning
