Your Apple computer right? Yes, you can use Apple TV. You just won't have the computer with you to pause, FF and RW.

No, it's not going to stream to your tv wirelessly, but if you can move the computer like Louie was saying, you'll be fine with the HDMI connector.

Thanks so much for the techy help. I can't do that, BUT if I download it to my Kindle, then use an hdmi cable to the tele that should work.

Thanks for the heads up Louis, & yes I do have a HDMI cable... Still I would much prefer a hard copy.

Yes, I have my Kindle hooked up to my tv too. I'm going to do that. I would just make a copy when it comes on cable tv, but I guess that the cable presentation won't have the bonus footage and I would like to have that.

I'm always slow to adopt new technologies. I'd love a DVD of this. But I have friends who express genuine confusion over the idea that DVDs are still manufactured and sold in this day and age. I can't begrudge the filmmakers for opting out of a technology that is essentially obsolete, annoying though it seems.

This whole discussion is familiar to me from back in the VHS --> DVD days. At one time most movies were put out in both formats, then slowly they weren't anymore. My family went "Yargh! We don't have a DVD player! They could at least give us the option!" but eventually everyone just got DVD players, enjoyed the new technology, and forgot they were ever even upset about it.

Anyway, I'm excited for the new footage but kind of annoyed at the prospect of buying the whole movie again! That's what I get for being overly keen, eh?

Nothing is uniform now, so I think it is premature to start phasing out the old equipment, not until everything can stream everywhere and everything can be copied for back up purposes.

I have the new technologies. My Kindle Fire and Roku are attached to my tv. I have a mac book pro and ipad and I took the picture with my iphone. The problem is, with compatibility, exclusivity and DRM restrictions not everything plays nicely with one another and I don't like having my media locked up. I also don't like having to solve what is basically a science equation just to figure out how to hear or see something.

My car has a hard drive. The old model let me load onto a hard drive from a smart card. The new car streams via blue tooth, but only loads to the hard drive from a compact disc. So, I can stream music from the iphone, but if I want to put it on the car's hard drive, I use a CD and sometimes licensing restrictions won't let me copy from a CD to the hard drive. I have Seeds We Sow the album on my car hard drive, but I cannot get Sleeping Around the Corner a bonus single on there, because I bought it separately somewhere and it has DRM that limits how I can copy it.

The manufacturers are holding the new technology back, because they won't work together (and also because the content creators don't want us to copy and put up a fuss every time they try to make out lives easier). VHS won out over betamax (though I still have both). Blu-ray won out over HDD (never had HDD).

We need some universality in streaming, downloading and copying in the cloud. Until then, a hard copy is preferable, not because I'm old-fashioned, but because it works everywhere.

I don't like itunes. I don't like Apple restrictions on media. I had all of my music on itunes for a long time. I don't want to go back. I have some tv series on itunes (most recently Game of Thrones) but I really want to stay away from it. Hopefully, this Virgil IYD download will be something we can copy and then I'll have IYD on DVD. With bonus features!

But everything is playable on the computer, isn't it? Maybe I'm wrong, actually. As I said, I'm slow on the techno uptake. As I understand it, though, there is that level of uniformity at the very least. And the computer can be hooked up to a TV without much fuss or cost, if the larger screen is your bag. I think you make a lot of great points which I'm going to take on board the next time I try and articulate my love of the good-ol-DVD to a (arguably) more forward-thinking friend. But I also think you're overstating the complexity and incompatibility issue. DVDs only ever play in DVD players, and certain players only play certain discs vis a vis region coding (something I'm currently (not) enjoying tackling as a person with an extensive collection of DVDs in a variety of region codes). Not all of the problems you mention are anything new.

Can you not burn a DVD of an iTunes film? Serious question. I burn CDs from iTunes albums that play in CD players. I just assumed the same would be true for films. I'm thinking I'm about to stand corrected on that one, though.

No, you can't legally. But I know there is some software that you can probably load that will make unauthorized copies for you. I don't want to deal with that software, since it could also load malware onto my computer.

The computer can be hooked up to the tv without much much of a fuss? Depends on which computer. It costs more than a $10 HDMI cord to make an Apple computer compatible with a tv, which is fine. You can spend more if you want, but if you've already spent $2000 on the computer, maybe you don't want to spend more.

And the problem with just burning a CD is, like I said, it doesn't always make copying possible. I burned a CD of Sleeping Around the Corner to put on my car hard drive. The car won't recognize it because of DRM restrictions. I can't get SATC from the CD onto the car. So, what's the big deal. Why not just carry the CD around in the car? That's what I do, but if we are moving into a streaming world, why should I have to do that? Either let me get rid of the CD completely or give me all CDs. Don't leave me in this limbo where I need to do 12 different things to listen to one whole album, with bonus tracks, in my car.

I could stream from my iphone in the car (and I also have HTC One and Samsung Galaxy IV cell phones, to try to cover my bases), but streaming does not always provide continuous listening, depending on reception. I want to stream the most during long car trips and it's the long car trips outside of the big city where you get the most reception problems.

The problem with the "all you have to do to make it work" solutions is that "all you have to do" is more complicated and expensive than I want my life to be and no I did not have these issues when I had CDs and DVDs. The only DVDs I ever had a problem with were the ones I made myself. I might save it on DVD-RAM or DVD-RW and that would not be compatible with some DVD players, but that is something I could fix myself, just by recording onto the more universal type of DVDs.

Does it seem weird to anyone else that inyourdreamsmovie.com has no mention offering the movie for download from their site starting on July 1? That's only a few days away.

I'm guessing that is no coincidence. Apple is currently the sole outlet for the movie through iTunes, and we all know how ruthless Apple is when it comes to what they feel is their intellectual property. There was probably some sort of contractual clause drawn up that Apple would be the exclusive outlet for the movie for "x" amount of time, and until that time lapses, no one else is able to advertise the product. This is just purely a guess, though.

That doesn't make sense, though. The whole reason it pays to be an exclusive retailer is because you get a piece of each sale. If you don't allow other people to advertise that the product is for sale, you cut back on potential sales, and you shoot yourself in the foot. That's why, generally, the way it works with an exclusive retailer is all sites simply link to them...so, for example, the IYD site would say "Available for download July 1st! Only on iTunes!" with a link to the iTunes store.
