Singer-songwriter Stevie Nicks feels that troubled actressLindsay Lohan should spend time in a hospital to sort things out.

The " Fleetwood Mac" singer was also a cocaine addict in the 1980s and she had spent a fair bit of time in rehab.

"Do I feel like the godmother to Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, etc? Yes. But like Amy Winehouse, they're not listening. Lohan, listen to me, you are still capable of being a great actress, but only if you really want to do it and spend a year in a hospital," thesun.co.uk quoted Nicks as saying.

"I do think they should have learned from my generation of rock stars, but nobody ever does. I should have learned myself from Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin, but I didn't. I don't think anyone can tell a drug addict to stop," added Nicks.
A very intelligent and thoughtful article. Stevie knows how to talk to people without sounding patronizing and condesending because she was treated this way. ("Do not condesend to me!")

[From the CNN comments section of the Lohan/Stevie article where Stevie said Lohan needed to get it together.]

Notimpressed

Whenever I hear about Stevie Nicks I have to relate a story that shows her true colors to be nothing more than Hollywood trash. I was working at a veterinary hospital in Sherman Oaks, CA during the 90's and she came in one late night after hours. She was working late at night at a recording studio and her little dog (now the dog was cute...which turned out to be perfectly fine, by the way) accidentally got caught in a closing door. She wreaked of alcohol and acted like she was coke'd up as well. She was obviously impared, having to be helped out of her long white limo. Long story short, she said she didnt have any cash on her and just to send her the bill. Not only would she pay it, but she'd send us an signed copy of the album she was working on. Well multiple letters were sent, multiple calls were ignored and I finally gave up. The $60.00 emergency fee was not worth going through small claims court. To this day, however I never miss the opportunity to let people know about the real Stevie Nicks. I've had quite a few experiences like that while growing up in Hollywood. You cant hear a few nice chord progressions and come to the conclusion that a person is "classy" You still owe me $60.00 you old piece of dried up Hollywood leather!

^ Oh dear. Somebody has a chip on their shoulder. I'm never one to say Stevie is undeserving of criticism, but in this case, if that story's true, I'mma stick by her.

Someone acts like utter crap while clearly drunk/high/whatever, it's absolutely off-putting, but it in no way reflects that person's "true colours", and it certainly doesn't warrant writing them off as "trash" and saying so to everyone who will listen for over a decade. Jeesh.

I work for the NHS. I get that kind of thing from people sometimes too. If I got so bent out of shape every time someone was acting disorderly under the influence while in a high-pressure situation, I'd... well, I'd be an idiot with a willful ignorance of what goes on in the hearts and minds of people. But perhaps working in a veterinary hospital affords that luxury.

The $60 is obviously due to a communication breakdown somewhere. I have a hard time believing even the trashiest of Hollywood types wouldn't fork over $60 for a vet bill if it was brought to their attention in sobriety.

John Diamond used to complain about the NHS when he was dying. He had separate insurance mind you, so he didn't even use the services, but that didn't keep him from being critical. I didn't think his comments were necessarily fair, but they did make me laugh, even through tears. I still miss him after all of this time.

Anyway, people love to denigrate celebrities. Often if they don't have something to negative to say, they make it up. Makes them feel important.

Ugh. Lindsay? Seriously? Uh, no.
She looks nothing like Stevie and she's a terrible actress. I prefer Stevie's choice of Reese Witherspoon.

Well, we may have to go younger than Reese now. If so, I'll take Jennifer Lawrence.

I'd love to hear what his comments were, Michele. I'm always interested in what people have to say about the NHS. Much of it is completely unfair, yes, but much of it isn't. What's also unfair is the general British population's resistance to any talk of reforming it. The system is designed for medicine as it was in the 1950s, and it's in dire need of an update.

*gets down from soapbox*

I'd take Jennifer Lawrence as Stevie Nicks for sure. She's just great. But I kind of hope the general population moves on from biopic-mania. Biopics are just dull. Watch a documentary, or watch an originally-scripted movie that isn't banking on being "based on a true story" while also reserving the right to be considered completely fictitious. This "Oho, it's all true! Except for the part that aren't true! " thing biopics have going on is just really annoying.

Oh yeah, I was getting down from my soapbox, wasn't I?

I'd prefer a girl who sings - and even looks like a young Stevie.

Well, Diamond was sick for four years and each time he had a surgery or treatment he and his wife got to weigh Quality of Life v. how much longer he'd be getting to live, etc. Obviously, he and Nigella had resources, so the cost of the treatment wasn't an issue for them. He complained that the NHS would have taken all of these decisions out of his hands and told him what treatment he was getting (or not getting) like it or not. Plus, they wouldn't even have let him pay extra if he WANTED to and could.

He didn't understand why the useless facilities were allowed to exist at the expense of the ones that were actually efficient and could use more money to do good work, as opposed to throwing good money after bad on the ones that weren't offering anything worthwhile.

But his scathing humor was mostly spent on the lack of bedside manner that the NHS doctors and nurses possessed or so he claimed. He thought all doctors were indifferent at best, giving you the worst news without a hint of humanity, let alone compassion. But he thought NHS doctors and nurses were actively rude or malicious and he would basically write up entire little skits about exchanges with them. Obviously, it was exaggerated to humorous effect, but the apathy I encountered from physicians a few years later when my dad had a stroke (here in the U.S. at the University of Chicago) actually reminded me a lot of the things Diamond had groused about.

Whoa! I see your point...and she was and could still be a beautiful woman. She can also act and lip sync (acting) And, I remember when Stevie was such a mess that Lindsay couldn't hold a candle to her...just saying!

Looks are helpful, but I want someone who can act most of all and the rest will follow. And act like Stevie, I should add. Reese can act, but she was nothing like June Carter Cash.

I totally agree, and mostly, I just don't like Reese as an actress and her playing Stevie would be one of the worst choices for the role in my opinion. Jessie of course is a singer/songwriterand not an actress, and while I like to throw her picture out there, it is totally unrealistic that she play Stevie.

If a movie is ever made, I just feel it's really important to find someone who looks the part, who can sing Stevie's songs, who has the Stevie stage presence thing down, and not just some blonde that Stevie likes as a friend or who has a famous name.

Oh yeah. I totally agree regarding a friend of hers. Leave it to her and she might want Kristen Stewart, now that Reese is too old. Stevie should be the very last person who gets to pick who should play her. Michele
