Default Book of Love

How have I missed this gem for so long?!

Think I may have dismissed it because some of Lindsey's Mirage songs I find quite inaccessible and not to my taste. I just downloaded it and I *love* it.

Sigh.

I'm probably one of those people he hated who wanted more pop stuff instead of all his Tusk songs.

A while ago we had a thread about how Book of Love is one of those songs that you can almost forget exists....not because it's bad (I like it too), but just because for whatever reason, it virtually never comes up in our conversations here on The Ledge.

I wasn't really a fan of Lindsey's retro kick. This song's ok I guess.....not something I visit often.

What constitutes a 'retro kick' other than Oh Diane?

Oh I hear touches of retro in the Original Trouble and Even Bwana. But that's just my ears, lol

I love all his Tusksongs, But also all his Miragesongs sans Diane.

Book of Love is beautiful. THAT would be a deep cut on tour.

I just don't get him sometimes and so I can overlook some of his beautiful little moments.

Yep, great tune... love the guitar work at the end.

Another Stevie missed vocal opportunity on a track that could have made it that much better IMO.

I love Book of Love! Definitely a song that puts me in a better mood. One of my favorite Lindsey tracks for sure- never gets skipped by me

I disagree with you on Oh Diane, though I suspect Lindsey would agree with you. I think it's a decent little tune where he does his best Elvis.

I agree that Book of Love is gorgeous. Really could have been a single, back in those days when singles still mattered.

Actually, I pretty much like all of Lindsey's Mirage songs; he has the strongest ones on this album: Eyes of the World and Can't Go Back. I even like Empire State. I would say Gypsy and Hold Me are also outstanding tracks, with That's Alright coming a couple of notches behind. The rest are of the stuff is pretty bland.

If you include GYOW in the "pop stuff".. then include me. I wish he would have written more rocker songs.

Yes I do like Book of Love and several Lindsey Mirage songs specially Can't Go Back, a song played a lot in a (then) new peruvian radio in 1982. Despite being released as a single, I think only in UK, it has not included in any hits compilation

Stellar track! Love the retro vibe that comes through on alot of Lindsey's early 80s stuff. He and Dashut really compensated for Stevie's absence on this. Even she herself could have sworn she were on it. His best track on Mirage for sure, though I suspect he hold's a grudge on most of this album since the record company kind of pushed them back into more of a mainstream direction with their music. If I ever had a chance to meet Lindsey I would ask him what his thoughts are on his Mirage songs. Just something I've always wondered about.
