Default Klonopin Interview Q

I saw this interview recently (can't remember if it was written or a video, think the latter), where Stevie talks very candidly about Klon and when she gave the drug to a friend in small dosage. They go to confront the Dr. and then she realizes this could kill her.

It's important to me to find this. A very close friend of mine takes it (not sure of the dosage or how frequent). I have told him time and again about SN addiction, but it seems to fall on deaf ears. It is really clouding his judgement and at this point I am ready to be quite frank with him and risk losing the friendship. If he continues on I may lose him anyway.

She talked about it on Oprah's Masterclass. I think it's on youtube. She didn't give Glenn Parrish a small dose, she gave him exactly what the dr prescribed for her and he passed out. Good luck with your friend.

Dear FierySequences, please don't end your friendship with someone because they refuse to take your advice. Your friend might be just fine on Klonopin. Not everyone who takes it turns into a zombie. Friend's are supposed to be there for each other, not judge and dump them because you disagree with the medication they are taking prescribed by their doctor.

Agreed. Stevie had a problem with Klonopin because she's a recovering addict. She simply replaced her cocaine addiction with a Klonopin addiction. This really is a matter that is only the business of your friend and his doctor. Just because Stevie Nicks says Klonopin is evil doesn't mean that it's gospel & the final word on the drug. Let's not forget how out of touch, misinformed, and flighty the woman is. I adore her to death, but she's not someone I would ever take medical advice from. That's what doctors are for.

Agreed with Louie and Viv., let your friend's doctor decide what's best for him. If they've never had a previous addiction they will most likely be fine.. and if they take it when it's prescribed. I think Stevie's doctor was upping it intentionally and causing more harm to her than good. Poor thing.

I take 'Alprazolam.' I take it everyday I have anxiety, but on days where I don't, my body doesn't beg me for it, as in, I'm not addicted to it. If drugs like Xanax and Klonopin aren't abused it's usually quite helpful, not deadly. You want your friend to feel normal, and not hurt anymore, right? It took me a LONG time to ask for help.

Also, the interview you were referring to, FierySequences, is the episode of Oprah Masterclass she was on, it was aired this season.

While I agree with you, I want to mention that I know two people who were prescribed Klonopin for very valid reasons, and even though they didn't take it anywhere near as long as Stevie, neither had a very good time of it. One friend gained a lot of weight, and the other had a really hard time weening himself off of it. I would be a little leery if I were ever to be prescribed it.

Also, while one can argue that Stevie is responsible for her own actions, what on earth was the doctor thinking? He knew she was a recovering addict, and under what circumstances would it ever be justifiable to prescribe that dose for that long? He was the doctor; he should know better whether Stevie did or not.

my sister isnt on klonopin but something close to it for like 10 years its freaking crazy! she has gained so much weight on it and instead of helping her she said that it is now making her agitated and angry. she takes 1 pill in the morning and if she misses her dose by a few hours she will get a really bad migraine so for now her doctor is lowering her dose to see if she can avoid the migraines and then if that doesnt work he said he will give her prozac for a while and then he will step her down off that.
my good friend has been taking lexapro for years and he tried to stop taking it before and it made him so sick and he got the shakes really bad so he just started taking it again. i told him he has to do it through his doctor because some people get so sick while weaning off of it. i know there have been times my family has wanted me to get on various meds to help with depression and anxiety but i refuse to because i dont want to go through that crap later on. i dont like what it does to the people i have known that take it. they cant even cry its awful. i think its ridiculous too for these docs to just keep medicating people instead of insisting they go to therapy.

woooh...thanks for all the advice and feedback. Perhaps I didn't make myself clear in the first post. I'm not going to end the friendship, I'm afraid if I stage an intervention this may end our friendship by him, not me.

This guy is dating someone (and took him back) after the "psycho" boyfriend tried to wreck my friends car with him in it, hit him, took the keys out of the ignition while the car was still running (on another incident) and then tried to through a brick through the windshield. And my friend still took him back. This is what I meant by "cloudy" judgement and decisions.

No one, especially me is being judgemental here. I love vodka and wine. We all have our vices and I'm certainly not perfect. Only concerned.

Thanks again for everyones 2 cents.

Thank you for the sound advice. I agree therapy can do wonders for people's depression and anxiety, I am speaking from experience.

Well there's only one explanation for this: Love is blind.

you are welcome and yeah i get so frustrated that so many people i know just keep popping pills without every trying to figure about why they are so depressed and have such bad anxiety in the first place. i know for myself things have got so bad sometimes that i didnt think there was a way out but thank goodness i was able to pull myself out of that despair by working out, listening to music and praying a lot. i also have an amazing hubby as well that really listens to me and tries his best to help me out as much as he can.
some people have no choice to take meds and while i agree they can really save some people's lives they also can do a lot of damage as well. i dont know why doctors dont make people go to therapy as well. i know there isnt a lot of money in it for them but they should be more concerned about the patients thats for sure. i mean what kind of doc keeps my sister on meds for over 10 years for a problem she had 10 years ago?! ugh!!

Definitely. I take Klonopin and have for years. You cannot go by someone who abused the drug, which I'm sure Stevie did. I take it 'as perscribed' and that is all. No giving it to other people. That's ridiculous.
