i agree they should just throw it out there now and see what happens. sh*t us fans could do better promotion for them at this point. also with it being an ep i am sure they will be selling it for around $4.99 or so which means more people might it. most of the people i know are cheap and while they do like FM they wouldnt pay $9.99 or so for a new cd but they would buy an ep for $4.99 or less. they could even do what amazon did for a few .mp3 albums a few months ago by selling them for $1.99 each. bruno mars went to #1 that week and i even bought it cuz if figured for that price if i only liked 1-2 songs it would be worth it. they just need a younger team of people around them.

But from those 10.000 the big percentage is for the artist himself. It was a very brave and sensible decision to do it this way. And basicly everyone who attended his OMS could grab it for 10 dollars. Enough.

An FM EP could sell some more, just as a teaser, the dollars float in your own pocket, and if it gets attention, maybe a label is interested in an album. Or it works as a thermometer; how's the public brand doing in 2013?

To call OMS a quick and dirty release, and "sullying", means basicly (to me) that you don't understand the State of the recordindustry in 2013. Lindsey brought out SWS solely on his own terms, with a little help from a distributer. I can buy the thing in every city in the Netherlands. ( Well, nobody does, But That's not the point )

I don't think HejiraNYC was referring to OMS with that comment. That strategy might be fine for Lindsey, but not for Fleetwood Mac (Lindsey's whole small machine/big machine thing). I think that was the point of that comment.

FM should come up with a record label name of their own and dump the tunes in .Wav format on their site.I'll buy them .

Basically I have no problem with buying digital downloads as long they are Wav and Flac files.



Sooner or later that will be it only and CD's are or going to get phased out.I better get use to of the digital music way.

"Mac Attack Records" will be a good name for starters.

iTunes probably wants an exhorbitant cut, especially with that promise of heavy promotion. That's probably the rub.

Working as a manager for the FYE chain, I can tell you this is the truth unfortunately. Some of our stores already have (or are planning on installing) stations in-store where you can hook up your iPod, phone or MP3 device and buy mp3's or m4a files and instantly download them in the store using a credit card. 'Tiss the way of the future.

Yeah, and unfortunatley the joke is on us! Both Stevie & Lindsey were spouting off in interviews late last year into early this year that they would "throw out" the newly recorded songs on the internet sometime before the tour began And Lindsey has been saying for the last 2 weeks that the EP will be released "any day now"!! Approval for artwork my ass, all & any details should have been completed months ago. These 3 or 4 newly recorded songs have been in the can since last November. There is no excuse.

The New Order frontman explained that, following the reassembly of the band in 2011; they plan to remain active both on the road and in the studio.

"What we want to do, is keep a presence and just go away for a bit -- like for example, when we finish this small West Coast tour and South American tour, we are gonna go back and we've got two months to do some writing. Then we go to Russia, Istanbul, and then we do a bit more writing and then we come back and play in the UK and then we come back and play the East Coast and America."

The idea, according to Sumner, is to keep up the presence of the band, rather than slide off the radar. "We've never tried it before," added.

Sumner says the new recording projects will follow a different direction than past releases. "We're going to focus on a couple of tracks at a time. We're not doing a whole album – not the way we used to," added keyboardist/guitarist Gillian Gilbert, citing the reason for the new direction as a chance to provide the band with an opportunity to balance touring with providing fans with new music. "Instead of going away for two years and writing a record and coming back, we're going to do it this way so we still have time to carry on the tour while putting stuff out. We don't want to give up touring, but we don't want to give up writing."

Sumner and his bandmates are in the process of nailing down how they want to handle the release. "We're thinking about doing about 4 songs at once. We're still debating but I think what we're going to try and do is a series of EPs then we'll probably put them together as an album," he said.

One of my favorite bands, Drivin' n' Cryin', try to put out an EP every three months. They've managed to do that three in a row, the last 10 months with a delay of maybe 4 weeks. And those EP's are gorgeous, everytime they set up a theme in style. Songs From The Laundromat is typical for what they've done for many years (alt. Countryrock), Songs about Cars, Space and The Ramones is all about their punkrockroots, and Songs from the psychedelic timeclock speaks for itself. Wonderful gutsy and short powerhouses. Everyone of them.

They plan to continue this After the fourth, Which at first was planned to be the last.

Yeah, I know another band that always releases soundboard digital downloads of every live concert the perform. They charge $5 bucks for each show.
I wish FM did this...I would pay double that for live shows recorded off soundboard. But nooooooo.

Metallica and Red Hot Chili Peppers both do this. Peter Gabriel releases them all on cd, but not download. And others do similar things. Definitely not uncommon.

I could see Lindsey doing something like that now that he has become so prolific. But as a band, FM would never be able to pull that off.

It was essentially a “greatest hits” styled performance, although the band did drum up a new song that Buckingham revealed would be part of an EP release due out in the week ahead. The song, “Sad Angel,” fit in well when bookended by the mid 70s hits “Rhiannon,” and “Dreams.”

So now it's this week lol
