I think it was 8:20, maybe a tad earlier. I can only recall that it was about what I expected. Lights out, S&L entered together, Mick made an entrance sticks in hand and arms overhead, and Lindsey and John took a few seconds to tune and then....wow!

I was not at the show.

However, I just read all 28 pages of this thread, every post, and I have a couple observations to share.

This happens with every tour - there are people who are disappointed, and I believe this is rightfully so. We've been fans for a *long* time. We know how vast the Fleetwood Mac catalog is, and we know all too well how little of this material ever sees the stage. Maybe 1 fifth? 1 sixth? Even less? We've heard the staples too many times - and maybe it's our own fault for seeing too many shows over the years.

On the other side, you have the fans who chastise anyone who dares to express a dissenting point of view. They're either complete and total fanbois who believe the Mac can do no wrong, or more often, newer fans who have not seen the band before and can't imagine why anyone would not want to hear *insert any song here* again for the 40th time. They often love every song unconditionally, and typically like to remind all of us how grateful we should be that Fleetwood Mac is touring at all. And they're right - we should be grateful. For these fans, I'm excited for you to be able to see Fleetwood Mac, and I hope the show is every bit as wonderful for you as you hoped it would be.

However, for many of us, there is a certain level of monotony that just cannot be justified anymore. It's been going on for a while, and the blame rests squarely on the band members. This lineup has had one album of new material in 26 years. ONE!!! Then they go on tour, and well of course, they want to play the hits. I don't blame them - I would, too - but when your last hit was almost 30 years ago, it's hard to find material to add to your setlist that isn't going to be repetitive. Then they tour again. And again. And it's the same, sad, old, done-to-death setlist with a little something to make it seem fresh. Well, the truth is that no amount of salt or pepper will liven up a bland, boring meal. If Fleetwood Mac wants hits, if they want fans to love new material, they need to earn that. I'm not even going to any of the shows on this tour. There's just nothing new enough to draw me there. One new song, one new but actually old song and a couple songs they've done before but not last time just isn't worth paying for Stevie's dogs to fly around on luxury jets. It's not bold. It's not fresh. It's not risky. It's tired, and done. They talk about how they want to be fresh and relevant - it's all so bigus. They want to be *comfortable*. Well, comfortable is boring. Comfortable is not enough for me, when I can put in a DVD and see almost the same show, with better vocals, and with Christine there, too.

I understand they're old. So what? Being old is no excuse for playing virtually the same songs four tours in a row. If they can play at all, they could play something *different*. They are *so* stuck on themselves and their insecurities. How will fans hear new songs if you don't play them or release new material? You can never have new hits in your setlist if you don't give the songs a chance to become fan favorites. So what if people pee or get a beer during a new song - that's what fans have done for decades at concerts across the globe! After almost five decades of touring you'd think they would have figured that out. As much as we should be lucky they are touring, THEY should feel lucky that people still want to pay to see them perform the same songs again and again. I'm betting that both Without You and Sad Angel will be dropped within 5 shows. I hope I'm wrong.

I don't think it's fair to call out another fan for being "negative". It's not negativity - it's actually honesty. Honesty about being disappointed in a band that can't seem to get past it's glory days of 40 years ago, despite talking the talk (but not ever really walking the walk).

I saw this today on Facebook, posted by Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode. Stevie could learn something from this. She clearly got it with In Your Dreams, but she could maybe carry this sentiment into the studio with Lindsey.

"We all like to have hits, it's nice to have hits, of course, but after making 13 records together, it's not what drives you. What drives you is to make a great record."
This is something Stevie, Lindsey and crew have forgotten how to do together. I would happily spend hundreds of dollars to see them go out and play a new album mixed in with a few of those old standards. But that won't happen, and to me, it feels as if Fleetwood Mac is only revived periodically to pay for the high cost of retirement these days.

Hello all---

I just wanted to say thanks to those of you who recorded songs at last night's show and shared them online.

I think I have the BN demos, but I honestly can't say that I've ever heard "Without You," and if I did, I'm not sure that I really paid attention.

Having said that, if I didn't already know it's from the BN days, I would have thought it so. It clearly has that feel to it, and that's a good thing. I love the vocal interplay between Stevie and Lindsey, and I really hope that they release the song eventually.

"Sad Angel" is everything I hoped it would be. Actually, the intro was a little weak...but WOW...that chorus! With all due respect to Lindsey's fine solo work...he always sounds better with the Mac behind him.

So, was "Big Love" the usual acoustic version? For a change, I'd love to hear them do the album arrangement.

As for the rest of the set list, it looks okay to me. Except for "Stand Back." I have a problem with them doing solo tracks during band shows. They have enough band hits and great album tracks without having to include solo songs.

Let's be honest here. Stevie seemed perfectly happy doing her own thing.. Mick pushes touring every time he is about to go bankrupt again!!.

Oh, I mean that's what he did last night. He was sitting down on the floor during most of Mick's part and he stood up near the end and the recording was going "on the ground, on the ground, on the ground" and he was mouthing the words.

Yes, that was Lindsey's voice saying "world turning."

Default My review of the show & first write-up

I have never really written a review for a concert, so I'm not sure how this will come across, but here goes...

First off....geez, you guys write a lot! I did the first 15 pages of this thread on my cellphone last night while sitting at the Renaissance Hotel bar after the show....then the rest today on the full-size computer and it STILL took me over an hour to catch up to 28 PAGES.

I went by myself, as nobody I knew was a Fleetwood Mac fan or had the evening free (sigh). I hit the LaFogata restaurant on High Street at 6:30pm, but didn't see any other ledgies or others talking about the FM show (I was at the bar by myself though). Met up with another person from the ledge as I walked by the Hyatt before the show (they had flown in from FL). The lines to get in were way too long so I am guessing security was tight (much tighter than the 2009 tour).

Several here have already given good detailed lengthy reviews. This is my first write-up, so I have no idea how it will interpreted by you guys. Here's my background/knowledge on Fleetwood Mac as a fan: I've seen every tour since 1990, seen Stevie many times including touching her hand while sitting in the front row, and then met Lindsey last year in Columbus with a VIP seat; at the time, I told him that I thought he was excellent and a very underrated guitarist, plus asked would he consider doing a Buckingham Nicks tour in the future (which he thought was very interesting and gave a lengthy response to my question). I also have tons of bootlegs (both video and audio) going back to 1975, plus even old TV specials; my stack of stuff is pretty large. I've never seen Sara performed live, which is probably my favorite older song. So yes, I guess you could say that I'm a hardcore fan.

Review:
SHN. Nice tour opener. Tight, clean.
Chain. Excellent, tight, John's base playing was great. Didn't notice Lindsey's flub until somebody mentioned it here. Still a great tune after all these years.
Dreams. Still great after all these years. But yes, if I had my choice, I would like to hear other songs not sung before.
Sad Angel. A pleasant upbeat surprise and very enjoyable. This one will have to grown on me, especially after I hear the original non-live EP version. We'll see.
Rhiannon. Again, still great after all these years. Would have preferred to hear others, but I'll take it.
Not that Funny. Excellent and a huge surprise!! Tight, upbeat and with Lindsey pounding it out hard and loud, a real treat. I had hoped to get this one or That's all for Everyone or What Makes you Think You're the One. So I'm happy already at this point. Plus, I have several friends who have dogs and we always sing it as "It's not that FLUFFY, is it?! " So to me, it has more meaning, even though the younger generation won't enjoy it as much...

Tusk. Still great after all these years and loved seeing the visual in the background with the original 1970s trumpet players footage etc from the old days (you'll have to search around for the original footage). Classic, played tightly and loud. Just the way I like it.
Sisters of the Moon: Well, what can I (or anyone else) really say?? Awesome and right up there with Storms. Both of these tracks are some of my fav older songs from the Tusk album. A real highlight of the show.

Sara. BEAUTIFUL! Oh my God! My all-time favorite classic track. You know, the one that even as a guy, it still gets me emotional and brings an occasional tear to my eyes when I hear it at home. I have NEVER EVER seen this live and since that one TV (or DVD?) pre-recorded special where somebody had to really push Stevie hard just to perform it, I figured that I would NEVER see this performed live. Man, what an absolute rush! This song has meant SO much to me and has so many memories (not to mention the words are just great too!). And no, it's not tied in with a previous love relationship with anyone or anything, but rather tied to real-life experiences and what I was going through in the 1980's etc. I really could write on and on about this track and if you have actually read this far, I congratulate you and your patience and the fact that you're a hardcore fan that truly understands what I mean. I feel that as a fan, this track and a very few others are the essence of Fleetwood Mac. THIS TRACK ALONE is what will make me now go to a 2nd and 3rd show and probably get a meet/greet package so that I can ask Mick why they decided to include it in this tour. The video background also made it that much more enjoyable. The bass and sound were almost perfect. Simply put, 'Sara' is timeless, priceless, and worth the price of admission alone.

Big Love - still one of my favorites, as Lindsey still performs it in such a unique way. However, I did notice that he played it slightly slower and paced himself. But at his age, I did feel that he still gave it his all.

Landslide. Yes, it was fantastic and Lindsey is still excellent on guitar and paces it perfectly. But if I had it my way, I would eliminate it from the setlist and put in something rare and never performed.

Never Going Back Again. Excellent and one of my favorites; it just feels right and with the right amount of guitar playing. Surprisingly, I actually do not mind at all when he alters and drags this one out. Usually, I prefer stuff that sticks to the original as close as possible. But in this case, I can definitely make an exception.

Without You. Wonderful. Definitely a highlight of the show, despite what others may think. Some oldies simply can't be touched. Enough has been written about it already and I won't comment on it anymore.

Gypsy. Beautiful with excellent video footage in the background, which made for a full story and a wonderful experience. I believe this is one that Stevie did some twirling on stage, which I loved.

Eyes of the World. A pleasant surprise and a tiny gem. I'll take any rarities that I can get.

Gold Dust Woman. Wow. Sure, the song is already great, but when you combine that with the excellent background video/visuals and Stevie's extended lyrics, her slow dancing/swaying and stretching the song out longer just like in some of the older bootleg videos that I have, man...this one is really hard to beat. Had they just performed a straight, quick, stripped down version, then my thoughts would have been to eliminate it from the setlist altogether. So the way it was performed, my vote is to keep it!

So Afraid. Hmmm.....well, I think it's still a great song with what are still some of the best solo guitar playing that I have ever seen (and last night was no exception!). However, it's performed too much in both the FM tours and on his solo tours. If I had my choice, I would eliminate it from the setlist.

Stand Back. Excellent the way it was presented (yes, I remember the old video from the 80s and growing up with this song); the background visuals plus the fact that she was more energetic and that the song itself was pretty tight made for an excellent experience this time around (unlike her recent solo tours and doing this song on prev. FM tours). But I can totally understand why others want this dropped. So I say that if she can do it this well on her solo tours, then she should keep this out of the Fleetwood Mac tours. Please understand, though, that it's still an excellent song with a great beat and great lyrics and still stands the test of time.

Go Your Own Way. Ok, yes, it's still sounded great, but I would prefer they eliminate it, as it's played way too much still on the radio and on practically every tour. I am guessing that they keep playing it to make the fans happy; after all, you have to play a few of the big hits to keep the fans coming back, right? This is one of them.

World Turning. Excellent, because I like the way it was presented; I like Mick's drum solo, his really cool interaction/words with the crowd, plus the little Lindsey snippets/samples inserted (Ex: "Feet back on the ground"). Those of you that were there know what I mean. A great pulse/beat for the entire song and motivating. Hard to beat, really, even if Mick himself performed a shorter drum solo this time around (perhaps his age has something to due with it and we can't do things like we used to). Plus I'll take anything older that I can get.

Don't Stop. Yes, it's still great, but again, it's probably performed still as it's a nice feel-good hit that appeals to the majority of fans. If it was my choice: eliminate it and give me rarities or never-performed stuff.

Silver Springs. A nice surprise and fresh, fun, clean, sweet.

Say Goodbye. Excellent surprise, presented well and a really nice way to close out the show (most of the surrounding people didn't even know what it was, sadly). Honestly, I thought Silver Springs was the last one, so this was just a really great bonus. Hope they play it at all future shows.

The guy in front of me was a Ledge member; we chatted and he mentioned that he may post some YouTube videos later.

Wrap-up:

What I really liked about the show. The background visuals were an absolute treat. I really don't remember the band having this many visuals/video stories on previous FM tours (maybe I'm wrong). The visuals on Gold Dust Woman, Stand Back and Gypsy were fantastic. I like the cool black top hot that Stevie wore (can't remember which song), which harkens back to the old days (1970s), plus loved when she twirled onstage during 3 songs (she twirled more on this tour). Lindsey was in top form as a guitar player, edgy, tight and powerful on most of his vocals (esp. Not That Funny); perhaps it was just that feeling of exciting heart-thumping anticipation of the very first show and not knowing if it would go over very well with the audience (I know I felt it and I think the audience did too). I really liked his happiness/passion after receiving the roaring approval from the audience after a powerful song concluded. John was excellent on bass as always, especially on The Chain. Mick was excellent and as usual, I loved his facial expressions, especially during his drum solo in the middle of World Turning; I also loved his cool red shoes (what the heck???) I can visually see that Mick is still the glue that keeps the band together after all of these years. I like the fact that they can still be creative onstage and extend/alter (in a good way) some of the songs (ex: extended Gold Dust Woman) like the very early days; you'll need to look at the very early videos to understand). I miss Christine in a huge way, but like that the band was still tight and powerful for almost the entire show, despite their age. I also really enjoyed them pulling out stuff they have rarely performed or never performed. I liked that they made an extra effort to get back to some of their old days (esp 1970s). They also paced themselves very well to give each other a few minute's break. What a great show; although all their tours are great, I haven't been this excited since The Dance 1997 tour. Way to go, Fleetwood Mac!

What I didn't like about the show. Nothing was performed from their early catalog (1967-1974); OK OK I know that this is more about the present lineup of the band and that Stevie/Lindsey didn't join until late 1974. But it would have been nice to hear even a single blues song from that early period. I wish Mick did a separate longer drum solo (but hey, he's still great, OK?) I can clearly see that Stevie is very fragile , not as vocal and doesn't move around on the stage nearly as much as she used to do just 10 years ago; she also doesn't take a chance anymore on the higher notes. However, I'm sure that this is due to her age and that she really pushed/strained her voice too much in those early years (esp. 1975-1979); so none of that bothers me too much, as most of it is understandable. I will take Stevie in any form and any way that I can get her. She is a rock goddess and always will be. Moving on....there's not much more, other than to say that, if I could dream a perfect setlist, that they drop their common stuff and do 1-2 songs from 1967-1974, do more gems from the Tusk album, Mirage and 1-2 from the Tango album. I know I know....I can't have everything, right? We all say this about practically EVERY older rock/roll band that still tours: please perform more of the older gems or never-performed gems. What would be really cool is if they did a second tour with an entire album performed in the second half (ex: Tusk), but I know that it will never happen and I am OK with that.

To the poster who asked about the small poster cost. The sign I saw said it was $10.

After the show and at home, I watched the free Rumors one-hour special (1998) on Netflix about the making of the Rumours album and what the band was going through. A nice way to wrap up the evening.

I recognize that I am different and that I am very passionate about this band and that most of you are not as passionate (or passionate in a different way) or probably won't even get this far in the review, as it's too lengthy or appears to be boring to some of you...and I am OK with that. Everyone has a different opinion and everyone treats and loves music differently, especially based on real-life experiences and what people were going through at the time....

Conclusion: I absolutely LOVED the show (I sat near the stage in 116 a few rows up and level with the stage). It is because of the band reaching back into their older catalogue, the fact that they played 'Sara' , plus the good feedback on the meet/greet that I will now go and see them probably twice more on this tour, as well as do the meet/greet. I may even take a chance and do floor seats again (yes, I know meet/greets come with floor seats, but I am talking about rows 1-3 and paying a higher price for those separately). Regardless of their age and of Stevie slowing down, I will always love FM and will take them any way that I can get them. This will probably be their last tour, so enjoy it while you can. I will still go see them perform if they are in their seventies and can somehow manage to stand up on stage, I don't care. Regardless of our criticisms, I recognize that this band is very very special and that any performance or recording from this day forward is a rare special privelege and should be treated as such.

It took me two hours to write this.

Thank you for listening.

"I actually don't mind this setlist. The "special" songs they put in are all some of my favorites."

"Just for the record, I like this set list. With the "Without You," "Sad Angel," and "Sisters of the Moon" - I am happy to get anything different. Also, I think "Say Goodbye" will be a good closer. I've also never seen "Not that Funny" live."

"In a world that is less self-absorbed than just one person's desires. A song not done in 30 + years that most people have never seen live and that could damage someone's voice the way they sang it the last time and yet venture to try it now is indeed a risk. And whatever new way they perform the song now may suck to you but could very well be awesome to me. You may say you are underwhelmed and I may say I'm excited but you can not say it is not a risk to do that song. Adding the other new ones (Without You is also new as far as a live song) only sweetens the pot. Sorry you are underwhelmed but relevance is by opinion"

"I am just happy that they are back together again, touring, singing my personal favorite song (SOTM) that I never thought I would ever get a chance to see live. And that they are recording new music. If I don't get it, then ok, they didn't want me to have it...
But right now, I couldn't be more excited to see my favorite band live from the front row late next month.
I just hope that we can all be happy that they haven't closed the door on FM and all called it quits."

I, for one, could not agree more with the above posts. I haven't posted on this message board in ages, and I can see why. It's really sad to me to see what The Ledge has become. I was one of the early members of this site waaaay back in it's hey day, and remember how exciting it would be to watch the posts come in on the night of a new tour beginning. The overwhelming majority of members on here were so excited and were filled with true FM fans! Not tonight though. Now, sadly, the Ledge is filled with a bunch of negative complainers. We got two completely new songs tonight as well as some songs that haven't been done in ages. And the hits that are in the setlist are those that true fans would be thrilled to hear. Oh and let's not forget that tons of artists who were around in the '60s and '70s haven't even toured in years for their fans. But are the majority of "fans" on here happy about any of that? Nooooo, they decide to bitch and complain the whole time instead. Sorry if I brought the party down, but I was SO eager to get on tonight to read reviews, see the setlist and get pumped up for the at least two shows that I will be happy to see on this tour. Instead, I had to wade through a plethora of negativity...it's truly sickening and I only hope that The Ledge can return to what it once was.

Here, here!

It doesn't seem like this is a "fan" forum at all anymore. It's some other kind of forum.

I hope people can appreciate that there as a time when we wondered if we would EVER see this band play live at all ever again, and a time before that when we thought we'd never see "Landslide" live again, and a time when it seemed like it would be impossible to ever get Stevie and Lindsey on the same stage at the same time in the same show again. Having gone through all that, I appreciate anything and everything I get from this band now.

And this term "relevant" or "relevance" that gets thrown around in this thread.... I don't understand the meaning of these words in this context. Relevent to what????

When they showed the band on the screen, Stevie looked towards it and gestured for Lindsey to look as well. It was a nice Trojan moment between them.

Mick's red shoes. There was a camera shot looking straight down at them during one of the songs and it made me smile.

Mick, the new pope is humble and doesn't want any fancy red shoes. Maybe there will be more on the market for you to buy now!

Why? Because fans never have a different or unpopular opinion? Because fans must adore everything, with no regard to their personal preferences or tastes? Just curious.

Pretty sure that doesn't happen. Stevie and the rest of the band are probably not going to surround themselves with people that only report the nagging of the die hard fans. The band undoubtedly knows they can't please everyone. If Sisters Of The Moon came back because of the begging from the Ledge (I'll admit that's a possibility) but if it was put to the band by someone "working for them", it was probably suggested in passing, not as a formal sort of petition saying, hey all the Ledgies want this. That's just my guess.

The point is, you're being a little preachy. Some of us get what you're saying... but there's always going to be those folks who can never be pleased, and even I'm that way to some degree. There's always disappointment from the expectation set by the band themselves years back. It's totally acceptable to verbalize that disappointment, especially if it's constructive... after all, it does have the ability to make one better. And if you're any good at all, you know you can be better. Oops, that was a Lindsey quote there...

if stevie didnt spill the beans on sisters a month ago this forum would be erupting with praise. But since its been known for a month it somehow has been disqualified as a surprise song.

I will say although I'm glad theyre representing their last album with Say Goodbye, i'm so pissed its in the set. Crystal would've been the perfect song to end the set. It's John's favorite song, why the hell won't the throw him a bone JOHN SPEAK UP AT REHEARSALS dont let them walk all over you. you know hes sitting there in the circle going "eh ill just play whatever the f*ck you guys want me to"

And after hearing Without You, I would've much prefered the just played Soldiers Angel in that spot.
