Who Dumped Stevie?

the fact is that Joe treated her like crap after the WH tour, so even though she might have been the one to officially, formally "end" things, he ended it in his own way long before she did that. He ignored her and disrespected her for a long time. It's kind of sad to think of her still hooking up with him for a long time after the tour thinking they were in a "relationship" and for him it was just another booty call. I can only think it was all the drugs messing up her head, because Stevie really doesn't seem like the doormat type who would tolerate a man who just disappears from her life for long stretches, treats her like sh*t when he *is* around.... but, I suppose we all do crazy things for love, even if it is mostly one-sided.

And, for example, the long way to go to say goodbye story isn't really about her dumping him, so much as about her walking out after being used one last time.

I remember Stevie saying that Prince "walked out of her life" after he came to help her with a small piece of track on "Stand Back". LOL! But yeah Jimmy Iovine did walk out of everything with Stevie because he was done with the whole drug thing. Just like what Stevie said, "it wasn't fun for him anymore." She has been with a lot of men. LOL! Finding out who dumped her, is a tough one. Hell, Lindsey probably dumped her. She or him have never really said what tore their relationship apart. But she did mess around with Don Henley in 1975 after the Mac's white album came out. "Rumours" may have been about all the heartache, but I think they were breaking up before that time too. We will never really know the WHOLE story on it all. But it sure made up for some great music and songwriting.

Stevie has said she and Lindsey were breaking up when they joined FMac, but that it was just too much at once to break up and join the band, so they stayed together. She said the fact they were making more money and she got a new nice apartment and could go clothes shopping and all the excitement of a new band, new album etc put them in a better mood and things were better for a little while. But then after a year, when the novelty of it all wore off, they realized they still had the same problems as before.

I recently discovered a Newsweek article in all my old archived stuff that was dated May 10, 1976 that says Buckingham and Nicks just ended their 6 year relationship 2 weeks ago while still recording the follow up album to the white album (it wasn't named Rumours yet).

So clearly from Jan 1975 until roughly April 1976 they were still together but rocky and faltering. On Oprah's Master Class they show a clip of her saying that as things got rocky with her and Lindsey, she did "look elsewhere". I wish they'd shown the full context of that clip. because I wonder if she said anything about Don.

So weird to me that she'd throw that out there now after denying vehemently that she would ever cheat on Lindsey so many times in the media. Remember that Rumours era interview where she b*tches about the '"packin' up, shackin' up" line, then says something to the effect of "Now people are going to think I cheated on him and I never ever did."
I wish we had the full context of the "looked elswhere" thing too. Wonder if she just means that she left Lindsey and then dated many other men after that, or if she literally means she was fooling around when she was still with him.
I know she said before that she hooked up with Don 2 months after the break up with Lindsey, so that pretty much shows she didn't "look elsewhere" with Don. Do we know what the fling was with Jim Record in 76? That could be who...

I would bet that a lot of the fuss happened during their undefined sort-of-together-sort-of-not-together phase.

well she broke up with LB quite early in 76; did she have an involvement with Jim Recor in 76? She had a fling with Walter Egan in 76. As for Don, I seem to recall the story of Don sending her a box filled with gifts, including a little record player and records he'd picked out for her, arriving when FM was doing some recording in... Florida at Criteria, which was early 76 before going to Sausalito.. Don had the whole box of stuff delivered and whoever was delivering it brought it all into the (infamous) breakfast room and she was dying because it was in front of Lindsey and all the rest of the band....

Which also reminds me of the story of Mick and John playing a prank on Stevie by having flowers delivered to her with a supposed note from Don saying "The best of my love, tonight... Don" and her being flabbergasted at his nerve and Mick and John cracking up at her reaction before telling her the truth..

Yes, after the White album broke out, they had their separate places. They weren't living together and he just slept over sometimes and I'm sure they fought all of the time in general, but definitely a lot during that in-between period.
