right even if you haven't read the book (wasn't she studying for a teacher, literature or something like that??), there were tons of movie versions...

Well, she and Lindsey can tell you all about War and Peace, though.

I don't see why it's surprising that she hasn't read the book, even if it is a "classic."

Kansas City Star, March 15, 2013

Stevie Nicks sprinkles some solid-gold dust at Sound City concert

AUSTIN, Texas — Dave Grohl has been a busy man in Austin.

Jay Janner Stevie Nicks performs with the Sound City Players at Stubb's during SXSW 2013 on Thursday, March 14, 2013 in Austin, Texas.

He has been promoting "Sound City: Reel to Reel," the documentary he produced about the recording studio in southern California, which has had several showings during the South by Southwest Music Fest here.

Thursday morning, he delivered the festival's keynote speech. And Thursday night, he and several of his fellow Foo Fighters were the house band for the Sound City Players, an ensemble of performers who have recorded at Sound City and who gathered for a performance before a full house at Stubbs.

The three-hour plus show featured several high-proflle artists, such as Stevie Nicks, John Fogerty, Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick and Rick Springfield, plus Lee Ving of the punk band Fear. During a set by Chris Goss of Masters of Reality, Brad Wilk of Rage Against the Machine and now Black Sabbath sat in on drums,

After an opening set by Alain Johannes, a Queens of the Stone Age collaborator, Nicks took the stage.

She and Grohl launched into "Stop Dragging My Heart Around," with Grohl taking Tom Petty's vocal parts. After that, Nicks introduced a new song she'd written, "You Can't Fix This," a dour ballad that temporarily lost the crowd of about 3,000.

She got it back immediately with a few of her best-known songs: "Dreams"; "Landslide," which featured Grohl on 12-string acoustic guitar and which prompted a heartwarming sing-along throughout the huge venue; and "Gold Dust Woman."

That one ended with a long, raucous instrumental that brought out the beasts in Grohl and Foo Fighter drummer Taylor Hawkins.

Ving followed Goss' set, growling through several high-speed hardcore punk songs in what seemed like a minute or less for each. Springfield would follow Ving with some of his Top 40 bromides, a sign of how diverse a setlist Grohl and his band had to learn and the breadth of artists who recorded beloved albums at Sound City.

I don't think it's surprising that she hasn't read the book. I avoided Tolstoy (and Russian writers in general) like the plague and I was an English major.

I would think it was extremely odd if Stevie didn't know the origin of Anna Karenina though. She probably does, but the way she says she went to see "a movie" could be construed as saying that she just thought it was a movie -- with no other derivation. When I discussed seeing Les Miserables, I didn't begin the conversation by saying, "I went to see a movie." Usually, when it's a classic you just say you went to see Jane Eyre, David Copperfield, Tess of the d'ubervilles or whatever.

Also, just because of the song Garbo, I thought that she might have seen Garbo's version. She actually still might have. Her comments don't make it completely unlikely that she has. But I know when I talk about Keira Knightley's Pride and Prejudice I would not discuss it as if I hadn't seen many previous versions -- Jennifer Ehle's being my favorite over Keira's.

I'm looking forward to seeing Leonardo DiCaprio in Gatsby and, because I really like him, his will probably be the definitive telling of the story for me, but I don't want to hear Stevie say, "I went to see a movie about an enigmatic millionaire the other day . . . "

Excerpt from one of the Austin reports by Alison Fensterstock, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune :

http://www.nola.com/music/index.ssf/...und_the_w.html

The second must-see talk at the Austin Convention Center Thursday was NPR critic Ann Powers’ one-on-one interview with Stevie Nicks. Unfortunately, it took place at exactly the same time as one of the New Orleans panels I attended and was far too crowded to comfortably pop in and out of. (Also, my husband was on the NOLA panel, and though choosing between Stevie Nicks and your own spouse is a tough call, I opted for harmony at home.)

SXSW: endurance & reincarnation

Posted by Josh Bis on Fri, Mar 15, 2013 at 12:46 PM

Perhaps my favorite thing that happened yesterday at South by Southwest was when Stevie Nicks spent a good five minutes just recounting, in intricate detail, the major plot points of Joe Wright's film adaptation of Anna Karenina. This was in response to a question from Ann Powers, I think, about her songwriting inspiration and process, and was only one of many fascinating digressions in an hourlong afternoon interview that included a glimpse into her entry into Fleetwood Mac, the role of women in rock music (and her general outrage at a sense of modern-day setbacks for women), and negotiating the dynamics of taking breaks from a band to pursue a solo career. Other fun facts: she really loves Beauty and the Beast both the Jean Cocteau and television version) and always wanted/wants to be a witch for Halloween.

My second favorite thing from yesterday was probably her duet with Dave Grohl at Stubb's as part of the his Sound City Players marathon. The delicate stripped-down acoustic version of "Landslide" almost quieted all of the inane side conversations in the audience for the first time in the evening. The follow-up, "Gold Dust Woman", Nicks fully witching out with the all-star band was a highlights condender, too. The whole event felt like an endurance contest for Grohl, who was onstage throughout the variety show rock lottery that included Alain Johannes, John Fogerty, Chris Goss (Masters of Reality), Brad Wilk (Rage Against the Machine, drums), Pat Smear, Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters, drums), as well as Fear's Lee Ving (who, earlier in day, Dave credited for his entire music career). By the time I left — nearly three hours into the rockistest event of all time — Rick Springfield had joined the crowd. With three hours left until curfew, they showed no signs of slowing down.
