Default "Alternative" tracklisting

Hey folks,

I've been listening through my "alternative" playlists for a few Stevie albums today. Has anyone else done this? I'd be interested to see what folk on here have done to "improve" the running order or song selections? Here are mine.

"Bella Donna" and "The Wild Heart" have been added to, whereas "Rock a Little" and "Street Angel" have had a bit more of an overhaul. I always felt that BD started off a bit too slow, so I added an upbeat track between BD and KoW. With TWH, I always thought that "Nightbird" and "Stand Back" were a little too similar to have next too eachother, so I added "Garbo" between them for some variety. I also added "Violet and Blue", just because I love it and it deserves to be on the album. RAL and SA both have some AWFUL songs on, and some great songs that were cut, so I've added those in where I think they work best.

Bella Donna:

1. Bella Donna
2. Gold & Braid
3. Kind of Woman
4. Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
5. Think About It
6. After The Glitter Fades
7. Edge of Seventeen
8. How Still My Love
9. Leather & Lace
10. Blue Lamp
11. Outside The Rain
12. The Highwayman

The Wild Heart:

1. Wild Heart
2. If Anyone Falls
3. Gate & Garden
4. Enchanted
5. Nightbird
6. Garbo
7. Stand Back
8. I Will Run To You
9. Nothing Ever Changes
10. Violet & Blue
11. Sable On Blond
12. Beauty & The Beast

Rock a Little:

1. I Can't Wait (12" mix)
2. Rock a Little
3. Sister Honey
4. I Sing For The Things
5. Imperial Hotel
6. One More Big Time Rock & Roll Star
7. Mirror Mirror
8. Talk To Me
9. Battle of the Dragon
10. If I Were You
11. No Spoken Word
12. Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You?

Street Angel:

1. Blue Denim (single version)
2. Greta
3. Street Angel
4. Listen to the Rain
5. Destiny
6. Love is Like a River
7. Rose Garden
8. Inspiration
9. Maybe Love
10. Kick It
11. God's Garden

Anybody care to have a shot at OSOTM? I'm not sure what to do with that one. Anyone got any playlists of their own to share?

I’ll play along.

BD only needed a minor change for the very reason you stated. It has too slow of a beginning in my opinion. Switching SDMHA and KOW evens it out.

BELLA DONNA
Bella Donna
Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around
Kind of Woman
Think About It
After the Glitter Fades
Edge of Seventeen
How Still My Love
Leather & Lace
Outside the Rain
The Highwayman

WH actually is perfect in my opinion. Keep in mind though, back then they were sequencing songs with only one album side in mind, not as a continuous listen. You had a bit of a breather whenever you flipped the album or cassette. Inserting Garbo into the mix “fixes” that problem here.

THE WILD HEART
Wild Heart
If Anyone Falls
Gate & Garden
Enchanted
Nightbird
Garbo
Stand Back
I Will Run To You
Nothing Ever Changes
Sable on Blonde
Beauty and the Beast

RAL starts out with a bang and I think it needs “Sister Honey” to follow ICW to keep the momentum going, so I made a few minor switcheroos. Also, I would save the 12” remix of ICW for those “special compilations” BUT, I would make the album version with the same kind of ending the 12” remix has, so that it flows better into SH.

ROCK A LITTLE
I Can’t Wait (with a cold fade ending)
Sister Honey
Rock A Little
Imperial Hotel
I Sing for the Things
Some Become Strangers
Talk To Me
The Nightmare
If I Were You
No Spoken Word
Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You

No changes necessary for OSOTM, I think it flows perfectly.

Only a minor change for SA, replace "Docklands" with "Thousand Days." Docklands following Street Angel is too much of a downer. Another possible change would be to simply switch Docklands and Listen to the Rain for a better flow.

STREET ANGEL
Blue Denim
Greta
Street Angel
Thousand Days
Listen to the Rain
Destiny
Unconditional Love
Love is Like A River
Rose Garden
Maybe Love
Just Like A Woman
Kick It
Jane

Thanks Travis - interesting to see where others have changed the flow slightly. I didn't think about switching "Sister Honey" and "Rock a Little", but I'm going to try that .

I see you've not removed any songs from RaL or SA? Interesting. The following songs I could gladly never hear again as long as I live: Some Become Strangers, The Nightmare, Jane, Docklands (This is STEVIE NICKS. Stevie Nicks does NOT go to the laundromatt!), Unconditional Love, Just Like A Woman (the original is great - Stevie's isn't so much). I also think the album version of Blue Denim is lacking that kick that the single edit had - the drums sound too folkly and sloppy on the album edit, whereas the single has more of a rock and roll feel too it.

I've done it with The Wild Heart, but I wouldn't touch the others (except for Street Angel, which just doesn't have enough good songs).

1. Wild Heart
2. If Anyone Falls
3. Gate and Garden
4. Enchanted
5. Nightbird
6. Violet and Blue
7. Stand Back
8. Garbo
9. Sable on Blond
10. Beauty and the Beast

Street Angel is such a mess...I've tried to fool with it before, but was never entirely satisfied. Jane, Maybe Love, Kick It, Rose Garden, and Unconditional Love would definitely be cut. I'd add Thousand Days, Mirror Mirror, and If You Were My Love. I would love for the SA versions of I Call You Missing and (if there is one, which I suspect there is) Running Through the Garden to surface.

The fact that "Jane" still exists upsets me greatly. Everytime I hear it, it makes me do this:

I think "In Your Dreams" is one of her worst sequenced album. There are so many ways that would work great but I don't think it's that great as it is. I would use "For What It's Worth" as almost an intro track. The slow intro and bell is almost like waking up to a fresh sunny morning and after that's over "In Your Dreams" is like hopping out of bed and dancing your way down the halls. LOL. I think no matter how you sequence it "Secret Love" should not be the opener. "YMBTO" sounds like a great 'we're getting ready to shut this thing down' kind of song so I like it towards the end and "Italian Summer" is my end song because I LOVE that final note and it seems like a great way to close the album instead of drudging along to "Cheaper Than Free".

For What It's Worth
In Your Dreams
Annabel Lee
Moonlight
Secret Love
My Heart
New Orleans
Wide Sargasso Sea
Soldier's Angel
Ghosts Are Gone
Everybody Loves You
Cheaper Than Free
You May Be The One
Italian Summer
