What do you like/not like about the Rumours box set?

I'm quite impressed with the new outtakes cd and the box set overall. My only complaint is that "Silver Springs" would have been better represented by the original piano ballad with the incredible ending ("I cast a spell on you, you won't forget me..."). This release also offered an opportunity for a live recording of "Silver Springs" circa 1976 to be issued. These two versions would have made the box set complete for me.

I agree, but I'm not sure if that early live performance of "Silver Springs" was ever professionally recorded. However there is an early studio recording floating around that surprisingly didn't show up in the box set.

I actually wondered about this and was concerned due to previous comments. Happily, I was able to carefully put the loose sleeve between the vinyl cover and the booklet and slide it back into the box. It's a pain but worth it to keep everything safe and neat.

You know, I spoke too soon. I went back the Mojo wording is a little different here than it was there, even though she says basically the same thing, so maybe it is kind of fresh commentary from her.

She also lauds "the exciting and extraordinary chemistry between us, especially in light of the fact that we three Brits had met up with Stevie and Lindsey, who are from California, and how our different styles of music seemed to blend effortlessly. Also, there was the intoxicating variety of songwriting styles: two girls, three guys -- unusual and unintentionally commercial, yet honest."

Competition? "Most definitely. From my own point of view I had a lot to prove. I was in awe of Stevie and Lidnsey, and felt a great urgency to write some songs that surpassed others I'd written in the past."

"I hadn't really listened to Rumours for quite some time until this inspired me to listen again. I feel goose bumps and pride to have been a part of such a great album and a great band."

I don't like the price cause I can not afford it. I'll stick to my used Rumours cd which only $5 and it works fine

I can tell you what I like/Don't like "so far" - I could change my mind in a week or two after I've had time to properly listen and view everything... that said:

Like - in no particular order: The Chain (demo), the DVD, the packaging, the liner notes

Don't Like: That only Stevie and Lindsey are on the liner notes, but I do understand that John is not a talker. I think Mick could have chimed in here and there and I think Chris could have emailed something... even if she is no longer with the band at this time. Would have enjoyed seeing more rare photos; most of those I've seen, with the exception of Stevie in the crochet top.

I'm sure I'll have more Likes in the near future.

Yes, since we have the DVD-A comments from them from years ago, I don't really need Mick, but it seems odd that Christine is not on those liner notes, as a songwriter.

I love the live CD from the Rumours tour. The quality and performance are both excellent. My only gripe is that they could've included more tracks on the live CD. I doubt 12 songs was all they played. Other than that the whole thing is top notch.

When will record companies realise that people who prefer CD's don't play/have vinyl and vice-versa. These CD/DVD/Vinyl releases have become very apparent over the last few years. They should re-issue the viynl seperately, then everybody's happy.

Ha. I want vinyl and like to have it for my collection, but I am without a turntable right now. I had one that ripped vinyl to a compact disc, but I broke it when I moved. Even when I had the turntable and it was hooked up to my sound system, I had to be in a very specific mood to pull those LPs out and listen. It only happened one idle, perhaps rainy, Sunday every blue moon.

You make a good point. I think we are generally set up for one or the other, not both.

The loose sleeve on the back of the package which lists the contents. What do you do with that? It's too large to be contained in the box itself.
The live CD is a collection from several different shows. But it's not a full show. Most conspicuously absent are Second Hand News and You Make Loving Fun. Considering the high price point, I wish they would have given us a download option to digitally acquire all three recorded show in their entirety.

The Rosebud film is great, but the resolution is still a bit fuzzy. But I can forgive that because it was probably the best they had. I always wondered the exact context for the film, but now I know; it was produced to promote their European tour.

Just received mine today and totally agree with you, that loose page on the back is annoying the hell out of me! It has already ripped slightly near the bottom, why didn't they just put the tracklisting on the back of the box??


Not had time to listen to all of it but am loving the unreleased demos and have watched a bit of the Rosebud film which is great to own.

It's left me broke but just had to have it!

I would die for a soundboard recording of that early live Silver Springs- so different! I felt like I'd heard the version released on the deluxe before on youtube or something...probably had.

I was pleasantly surprised by the version of GYOW with the "you can roll like thunder" lyric. Interesting parallel with "thunder always happens.." in dreams. My other favorites were Keep Me There and The Chain demo.

Yes, the extra songs almost make me feel that they ripped us off on the last Remastered Rumours item 8 years ago, because they knew they had better extras that they could have given us then. They just held back.

Regarding the other GYOW, it reminds me of the discussion in the You Can't Fix That thread about rhyming. My guess was that for that track Lindsey was just singing those thunder words for kicks, not as possible lyrics, just because he would naturally tend towards the way/day rhyme.

Totally, those last Rumours outtakes were crap compared to these, except for Think About It and Gold Dust Woman. And you're right, the "thunder" was probably just a filler lyric, like the first thing that came to mind in the moment.
