As much as I love this song, I would be hesitant about a live version with their current voices. Not only is the original key out of their range, but one of the things that makes the song really cook is the tight harmony blend (very Everly Brothers-esque, to paraphrase Stevie). Their voices today simply don't have that effortless blend, even in lower registers. I have a feeling this could be a disappointment, but would love to be proven wrong...

I agree. Stevie's voice is still distinctive and capable of power in its diminished range but as a pair the Lindsey-Stevie harmony ship has kind of sailed. The last time I heard that magic Christine was involved: it was an early rehearsal for the dance tour and the band were performing GYOW. When they hit the chorus the three voices sounded amazing!

I think they blend really well on tight SHN.

They sounded good singing Soldier's Angel together, to me. Those are pretty tight harmonies too.

Mick said in a recent interview that this tour is going to feature Stevie and Lindsey singing more together (or maybe he was talking about the new songs... I can't quite remember), because they realized how well it worked on stage and they were in a good place.

Yes, and there were also some fleeting BN moments in The Dance that came close to capturing their earlier vocal blend: Stevie's very brief harmony on "I'm So Afraid" ("...black as night...") and on the second verse of GYOW ("...packin' up, shackin up...").

The Dance concert (not the tour) was the last time that Stevie's vocals still had some of the nuance and pliability of her young voice, how she could sing softer or even from the throat when the song or harmony blend required it. Effective harmony singing requires molding your voice to complement the other singer(s), and she could still do this to a certain extent on The Dance. By the time of the tour, she was pretty much singing from the gut all the time without much in the way of dynamics or nuance. I still think that her much-touted voice lessons actually degraded her vocal performance, even though she may be singing with more correct technique.
