I especially loved her shout outs to Mel and her concluding lines.

A friend of mine posted these on Facebook in honor/inspired by Jodie's speech. For all the righteous soul sisters:

Quote:
Salute to Jodi Foster, the brave one. Shout out to Tanita Tikaram, Liza Minnelli and Pet Shop Boys (look it up). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0G06mRI8yXw
Quote:
And a music video worthy of Julian Hernandez. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0G06mRI8yXw

I have always loved Jodie and truly grew up with her since we are the same age.I was crying along with some of the audience as I watched her speech.I hope she does not retire from acting and finds some worthy roles.Jodie has a special talent but roles that suit that talent are few and far between for women .

I suppose if anyone in Hollywood has earned the right to give such a self-aggrandizing, grandiose speech, it would be Jodie Foster- truly a gifted, peerless performer. But what was she doing sitting with that racist, misogynistic, homophobic pile of garbage also known as Mel Gibson? In my fantasy world, I imagine Jodie would have cornered Mel and left a deep footprint from her Birkenstocks on his backside.

How typical that you would project your own hate onto another, altogether more compassionate, person. That is exactly what Jodie was railing against in her defense of privacy--which, as with her coming out, was a testament to human dignity. Shared sexuality is, unfortunately, no promise of solidarity. **** you.

So butch! Yet another tough guy borne from the anonymity of the interwebs. I love it.

Yet again you fail to articulate... some kind of a point? What exactly is Jodie railing against? My so-called "hate?" Mel Gibson's utter failure as a human being? And what exactly is "shared sexuality?" Am I supposed to somehow be impressed because she has finally confirmed (without really confirming) what everyone already knew and accepted for over twenty years? Meh. At this point I don't think anyone cares. I think her decades-long silence on the matter speaks much louder than the reluctant musings of a public figure who has mostly disappeared from public life. I do think she is/was one of the most talented actresses ever... but I also think she falls far short of being some kind of brave symbol of strength.

Anonymity? You know who I am. I will gladly tell you exactly what I think of you the next time I see you in person. I will take this an invitation to do so. My only qualms about doing so in the past was out of deference for your friends.

I am not trying to argue with someone who is so deranged that he thinks he can judge--better than Jodie Foster!!--Mel Gibson's humanity as an "utter failure."

Jodie Foster asked for our support. Some will offer it. Some won't.

Haha... I look forward to it. Again, I suspect you would not be quite so, uh, exuberant in my presence.

As for Mel Gibson's utterly decrepit soul, I present Exhibit A (the racist and misogynistic tirade against the mother of his child):

How can you not be banned for this type of behavior? First you tell Ed eff you and then you publicly threaten him in another post. You owe him a public apology.

To be honest, Ed, Mel has been demonized by the press and the mere fact that Jody was at the Globes with him sort of proves he's not as bad of a guy as he's been made out to be. Many celebrities that know him personally have stood up for him, and we all know the media likes to blow everything out of porportion for ratings and page views.

I can't speak for you personally, but you find me a person who's never said something mean/homophobic/racist/misogynistic in their entire lives and I'll show you a real, living unicorn with a platinum horn.

Most of us should feel lucky that our every word isn't used against us at some point in our lives, because I doubt there is a person in the world - other than maybe the dalai lama - who would come out clean.

On topic, I love Jodie, and her speech was inspiring.

If saying "**** you" is a bannable offense, then let it be. But in NO WAY did I threaten him. I told him I would tell him what I think of him in person. That's not a threat of violence; and I can guarantee that I will not even use any swear words when I do so.

And I owe him no apology.

However, he does owe Jondolar an apology for highjacking with his hate the thread Jondolar started in good faith.

If he hates Mel Gibson so much, why doesn't he start an anti-MG thread. I would never have commented. I am only supporting Jodie Foster as she requested, which is that she not be told that in order to be a legit gay that she must be violent toward Mel Gibson--which I'm so sure Hejira would say to Jodie's face in person.

I would agree with you about the press sensationalizing acts of bad conduct if it wasn't for the fact that the world at large is able to listen, firsthand, to all of the hateful invective spewing directly from his mouth unfiltered. And it isn't like it was just a single isolated incident. There are numerous taped telephone calls of Mel(tdown) in addition to the notorious stories about his drunken driving arrest (which involved an extended anti-semitic rant) and his outspoken vilification of gay people. Is Mel Gibson a nice person? I don't know. But then again, I've heard Hitler was a friendly person who appreciated the arts and loved animals. Same kind of thing? I don't know... Sure, nobody is perfect. Have I laughed at non-PC insensitive jokes? Sure (but then again, I get a free pass because I am an ethnic minority ). I love non-PC humor as long as it is clear that it is said in 100% jest. However, I have never ever ever ever told such jokes/comments with the intention of hurting or demeaning people. And I never casually toss out racial/gender pejoratives, unlike Mel, who has a disturbing facility with throwing around the "n" word or using the "c" or "wh" words to describe women. Sure, Mel has apologized for the anti-semitic rant, but we all know it is only because it was reported to the press. And of course he went to "rehab" over the incident because, you know, that's the de rigeur way of washing away guilt in Hollywood. But that's all artifice. Having the capacity to speak in such a vile, hateful manner shamelessly/proudly comes from a deep, disturbed place. He's a monster and Jodie, it would seem, appears to have the forgiveness of a nun to see past his demons. I hate to say it, but I have so much less respect for her now, and it has nothing to do with the fact that she cowered in the closet for decades and then half-heartedly tiptoed out of it without any semblance of pride. As a NJ Housewife is wont to say, "When you associate with gaw-bage, you end up smelling like gaw-bage." But that's her life and Jodie knows what's best for Jodie.

I like Mel Gibson. That is not to say Mel Gibson has to like me or condone my lifestyle. I think he is a great director and I hope he directs some more movies.
