I also remember Ken's recollection of Stevie telling him WB gave her 2 weeks studio time for IYD. I think in actuality, that makes more sense. Now, all the other "fluff" may have taken more time.

LOL! And, I'm sure with all their top dollar equipment, etc. it still wouldn't take a year. Could someone keep tinkering and tweaking for a year - well, sure.

I will say that I don't want him to spend any time kowtowing. There is no FM without Stevie, but if she's not going to be reasonable, then I'd prefer there'd be no FM than for everyone to make unnecessary concessions. I want the compromises to be all the way around, with everyone giving and nobody breaking.

I agree, it's all or nothing. I love Lindsey and Stevie's solo work, but there is something about the end product of what they work on together which is a different kind of magical. I want that again, even if it's 5 songs. I feel like it's John and Mick that are the ones getting left in the dust here; the boys just wanna play! The parents need to get their acts together

However, Buckingham explained that the album, which would be Fleetwood Mac’s first since 2003s ‘Say You Will,’ was on the backburner for now: “…you gotta get [vocalist] Stevie [Nicks] on board with that, and at the time, she was really quite caught up in what she was doing. But I would love to do that because John and Mick were playing their asses off.”
I love how they all sort of talk to each other via interviews. It's oddly cute, when it's not mean, since they don't really get a chance to see one another all the time.

This is a bit off topic, but when/where did she say that? (This is coming from someone who is a big BN fan as well) That just seems like one of her mad statements that I love so much

It was in a lot of her IYD press when she was talking about SA and how "Buckingham Nicks" it was.

Funny thing is, didn't Stevie and Lindsey do this for Twisted? I don't remember the whole story, but from what I recall, they pretty much just went in and laid it all down and finished the song in one day. I think they can clearly do it. Of course, one may argue that it is one thing to do one song and a completely different thing to do a whole album. You would definitely want the album to have a cohesive feel and flow to it, so it would take longer, but there is absolutely no reason it should take them a year! Strangely, Stevie says she finished IYD in January 2011, but she had been talking about the songs and having her "14 songs" by May! They could have recorded, mixed, and released the album in September or October no problem. Now what exactly they did from May to January, who knows and who knows if the album would have been near as good had they rushed it. However, the even larger problem was that the album was finished in Jan but not released until May. Why did WB wait 5 months to release the album? Why did Stevie have her 14 songs a YEAR before they came out? Another reason I think they should drop their label, go indie, and do what they want. They could start working on an album today and finish and release it by they time they hit the road next year. I think Lindsey has come to realize just how fast he can get stuff done now and I think if he really wants to make a new Mac record he can easily convince Stevie that a new record isn't going to take three years of her life.

Thanks See, and this is why I'm taking her pessimistic outlook on recording with FM again with a grain of salt. She could feel differently in a couple months. They just need to catch her at the right time

I have. It MAY take a weekend or two, but nowhere near a year. BTW, I have pictures og GbV recording on my Facebook page. Yeah, they weren't recoding mainstream material, but it was enough to get them on Letterman and noticed by some big-name musicians. How well produced does a Mac record need to be these days?

No kidding. Don't you know that everything is 100% Stevie's fault?

They're not being held hostage by Stevie; they're held hostage by their own desire to further pad their bank accounts.

That said, it sounds like Stevie's down for recording in general, she just doesn't want it to take up all of her time - as evidenced by her statements about the new tracks on a possible GH release. So I think she's malleable... they might be able to get her on board if they know how to flatter her in the right ways...
Found an article! http://www.billboard.com/news/stevie...05155912.story

"We recorded it live and did some harmonies, and then he did some little lead guitar things and it was perfect," Nicks says. "There's no other players, just me and him. Not only did we create something that's probably as Buckingham Nicks as we have been since 1973, but... I think that song really brought Lindsey and I back together. He said to me as he was leaving on that second day, 'I feel like we're closer than we've been in 30 years.' It certainly opens a lot of doors."

And Nicks predicts Fleetwood Mac isn't done, though the group will have to wait for her and "In Your Dreams" as well as Buckingham and his forthcoming album "Seeds We Sow," which is due in September and which Nicks says is "really my favorite thing he's ever done -- and I wish he had saved all these amazing songs for Fleetwood Mac."

"When ('In Your Dreams') runs out of gas, as all records eventually do, then possibly Fleetwood Mac will regroup and do another thing -- whether it's a record or a tour, I don't know," Nicks says. "Or maybe Lindsey and I will go off and rent a house in Wales and do a Buckingham Nicks album. I have no idea, but I do know the music will continue."

Hence, why my hopes for more collaborative music, apart from Dave, will occur. What a difference a year makes... She totally has a right to change her mind and change it back again, I just hope something happens

^Yeah, they need Dave Stewart as much as they needed Sheryl Crow.

What DID happen here? Was it the lackluster reception of the recorded Soldier's Angel? Was it the relative failure of the album to generate sales? Something behind the scenes between Stevie and Lindsey? Is she demanding Dave Stewart's involvement?

Imagine paying $1000 to hear "Don't Dream It's Over" instead of "Go Your Own Way"
