Stevie was in the studio for SYW for about 6 months. Lindsey, Mick and John started earlier, but in 2002, not 2001.

I wasn't sure what she meant about 3 years either, but I thought what Viv said, adding a tour in there as well, sounded about right.

Variety is the spice of life. I've gotten a Stevie solo album since SYW - I've gotten three Lindsey solo albums since SYW. Now it's time for some MAC.

I take comfort in Stevie's changeability and haven't yet given up hope on Fleetwood Mac recording again.

Yeah, I think it's becoming really apparent that Lindsey and Mick are toxic to Stevie, and that it's taken working with Dave to show her that in a way that even she can't delude herself about.

Lindsey is still prone to treating her like she's a step he has to complete on the way to some sort of self-redemption, and to Mick she's primarily a meal ticket. His public ridicule of her promotion of IYD earlier this year was shameful and not worthy of an old friend. He has never properly retracted it either.

I do think it's obvious that Stevie's off-kilter just now, though, and it's possible that the key word in what she said was 'probably'. In fact, the whole statement could be received as a massive 'persuade me' to Lindsey - not in the usual games-playing way, but in an honest, emotionally exhausted, way.

It's interesting to note, in fact, the differences between Stevie pre- and post- the Nicki Minaj debacle. Like maybe she realised it was costing her too much to do the petty politics of FM in the midst of her honest pride and excitement about IYD - so she's dropped it, and 'probably not another FM album if it's anything like it usually is' would be about right for how she feels right now?

Personally, I'm ambivalent about her working with Lindsey again. Might be better if Stevie did finally put him behind her.

I agree with much of your post, except for this. Mick is one of the founding members of Fleetwood Mac. Without Fleetwood Mac, Stevie would not be the multimillionaire rock legend she is now. She owes a debt of gratitude to Fleetwood Mac in my opinion. Fleetwood Mac is and has always been Mick's life. Stevie has held the band prisoner for the past decade. Especially since Mick is going through a divorce, he could really use Fleetwood Mac right now. Not just to help his bottom line, but for the fellowship & distraction. Mick, John, and Lindsey all depend on Fleetwood Mac for their incomes. None of them make any money on their side projects.

To say that I disagree with Stevie on this issue is an understatement. If she doesn't like the way the whole Say You Will project turned out, she should use her weight to lay out her own terms for working with the band. For instance, if she wanted an outside producer, she could demand that. If she wanted to record at her house, she could stipulate that. She can have any demands she wants drawn up by her legal team, and put into a contract. I keep holding out hope that she will indeed decide she wants to come full circle with the Mac & record a final album with the band. In my mind, I hope she is not comfortable ending Fleetwood Mac's story with the Say You Will album.

Like others have said, Stevie's & Lindsey's solo albums from this past decade have all been fantastic. I just want to hear where Fleetwood Mac is these days. Surely they have all evolved as artists since Say You Will, and surely there is still great music to be made within Fleetwood Mac.

Exactly. She could easily do all of that.

at the beginning of DR doc (or was it a youtube vid, or a DR doc extra footage?), wasn't the event name/date AHI 2001 when Lindsey introduced Mick before doing Love Minus Zero, and said they have been seeing each other a lot lately, b/c FM has been working on the new album?

i might be wrong, may have been 2002?

i'm LB-centric, so don't really care how much time she'd loose on an FM project, but i'd hate for him to loose all that time in the studio.

maybe she's doing the same thing Mick has been doing when he was oh so dramatically announcing there will be no FM ever again? maybe she's trying to signal to everybody that if they ever consider making another album, it needs to be done and over with really fast?

In earnest, it really started around 1999 - 2000. Mick stated they were working on another FM record at the 2000 AHI Benefit in Phoenix.

I thought it was 2000. But it might have been '01. It definitely wasn't as late as '02.

the word on the street has been that Lindsey has been actually making money with this year's solo tour. not FM money i'm sure, but still, not doing a solo project just for the fun and art of it.

one would think/hope they would all have enough money from their past (well, we know that may not be the case with Mick), and can just do now whatever they want to, without having to milk their dinosaur band credentials...

on the other hand, that's what a large number of dinosaur bands seem to be doing these days, so why not i guess?

Stevie just finished her TISL tour in December 2001. And did a one-off in February 2002. She gave Lindsey her demos, but she wasn't actually working on the album yet.

yes, the guys were in the studio since either 2000 or 2001. Stevie wasn't.

Regardless of how long they had been "working on" a Fleetwood Mac album, Stevie was only in the studio for six months. After that they did do a long ass tour, but even if it took three years to record SYW or if it took a year and then she spent two years touring, it doesn't mean they have to do the same thing for the next album. Stevie and Lindsey have enough songs written to where they could both take ten tracks into the studio and pick eight favorites from each, record them all and then drop the four worst and BAM full album. Also with SYW, they were still cutting reels and ****. In the digital age, Fleetwood Mac could go into the studio and record a stellar album in a few months. Technically, they could record a whole album in a week if they wanted to, but we all know that won't happen. However, I do see Stevie's point. Fleetwood Mac is highly political and with them all having different managers and lawyers it adds in a bunch of middle men who muddle the process. Fleetwood Mac also isn't a very loving atmosphere for Stevie, so I think at her age she would rather record and tour and have all control of what happens rather than being another cog in the Fleetwood Mac machine. She could probably get her way in FM, but I think she is done having those arguments to get her way. I think they all need to just rent a house in England next fall and get Chris on board and make one more bad ass FM album and do a farewell tour (they can tour without Chris if she doesn't want to tour!).

Sorry, Louie, but I have to disagree. Fleetwood Mac made her rich and famous, but she's paid her dues to them many times over. They're all grown men and Stevie shouldn't be treated like their sole meal-ticket.

Ooh, boy, I can just imagine how well the above scenario would go over -- both with Lindsey and with fans.

Meanwhile, I find the current situation interesting and ironic. Sometime around 2006/2007, we were all discussing Lindsey putting off working with Fleetwood Mac. How his solo career was understandably more fulfilling & enticing for him, than another go 'round of band politics and drama with Stevie.

Perhaps it's only my perception, but it seems fans were more accepting of his desires then, than her desires now. Maybe that had something to do with the fact that, at that time, it hadn't been so long since Fleetwood Mac had released new material? It's an interesting contrast either way.
