Default Mika cites Fleetwood Mac as inspiration for sound of new album

I think he means Mirage/Tango-era Mac. Title track--"The Origin of Love"--sounds like a combo of the Mac and Erasure. That's a good thing. Although a coming out song, I think it also joins the discourse about gay marriage:

1. The Origin of Love: http://mika-licious.tumblr.com/post/...and-you-are-my

2. Celebrate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIBXTHB0QDw

3. Make You Happy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9YeRSsMmak

4. Elle Me Dit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiHWwKC8WjU

Mika...I can't decide how I feel about his work. For every song of his that I like, he has another I detest.

No surprise that I love it all. I think he's got it--a rhythmic genius.

Grace Kelly was a huge hit. And Love Today. Always being used in commercials and movie trailers. His second album, however, was not a big hit in the US (though it was internationally).

If it weren't for me being on this one pop culture blog, I wouldn't have a clue who Mika is either. And I'm young so it's not a generational thing.

....anyway, does it sound like Fleetwood Mac or not?

...and for those who knew who Mika was, I'm glad he came out! I hated the way the hipster music critics judged him for not coming out, but I think he made it the right political and artistic statement at this time. Of course, now he will just be made fun of by the same hipster critics because he didn't need to come out cuz everyone knew he was gay. Coming out is a political stand. It's not about surprising people.

Honestly, I'd just assumed he was out already. Good for him, though!

The new music isn't really working for me, though it might gel eventually. I guess I can sort of, almost, kind of see some similarites to the Mac's more technophilic songs. Really, Fleetwood Mac's discography is so diverse that practically any contemporary artist could claim lineage and I'd just say, "Eh, sure, I guess."

"Elle me dit" was SUCH A HIT in France, last year, that it became annoying. I like the song though, but i didn't see the FM connection. Still nice to hear, i'm feeling that our band is finally getting all the recognition it deserves, from this new generation of pop artists. (the tribute album, Florence, Mika, Fleet Foxes, etc.)
