made coffee and thinking about last night's show.. here are some of my thoughts...
Stevie sounded beautiful.. her voice soared over the arena. I was in sec 120 - the side of the stage so I had an interesting view. She gave us Rhiannon twirls... The arena filled up as soon as Stevie opened with Rock and Roll. The arena probably held around 11,000 folks last night. No seats behind the stage, my section was about half full, and the straight back 400 nose bleed seats were curtained off... still a very warm DC crowd and Stevie felt it.. she mentioned a couple of times what a great audience we were. Her band was tight and really sounded good - maybe side seats are best because I've been to many Verizon Center shows and the sound can sometimes be horrible - it's a sports arena, not a music venue - play the FILLMORE in Silver Springs Stevie.. please! a great new music venue located in the city that you wrote a song about.. but Stevie Nicks really sounded good last night.. I guess a few days to rest her voice was what she needed. Stevie talked to Waddy alot.. never noticed it before but I had a bird's eye view of their banter.. what were they saying? I like the sound of this band - love Lenny, but I didn't miss the percusion. more of a raw rock sound. The setlist is perfect for this audience - people stayed and listened, and the rod fans I met were great.. everyone around me loved her. Ending with Landslide just really melts the audience - I kept looking at the crowd and most everyone was standing and applauding when she finished. It was an early, short, but rocking Stevie Nicks concert.. I went to get a beer during the intermission (between shows) and it was still light outside. Maybe that's why she didn't sing Moonlight. I missed the IYD tracks that she played at the Beacon in NYC, but we got three - Secret Love (Moonlight instead??), Soldier's Angel (a very dark moment of the concert, but Stevie makes it work and sincerely gets her message about supporting our soliders to the crowd}. Its interesting that she moved Stand Back before Soldiers' Angel - i kind of liked the upbeat Stand Back following such a downer of a song. it still worked.. and I love For What It's Worth, so was glad she kept it in the setlist. I did the driving my car and knocking on the door motions with Stevie.. She really did sound good... her voice just soared. However, when she was speaking right before the start of Soldier's Angel, there was a loud and annoying echo of her voice - not sure what happened but the echo was distracting - she does talk a lot about this song... same story told a litle different - i like how she says give just $5 because it's not much and every little bit does make a difference. Awesome performance. DavidM joined me in sec 120 and he commented that this was one of Stevie's better shows.. we both agreed that her voice was sweetness. Good time.. stayed for most of Rod (no duets..) It really was like two separate concerts. The crowd loved Stevie, but most came to see Rod. His stage was bright and white, his band - and ladies - were sexy, and he sounded good - he is a ham. I also noted Stevie didn't mention Rod, and Rod didn't mention Stevie.. kind of odd.. but still worked as a rock and roll show.
