Default San Diego: "Baby you are the light"

I'm not going to go over the set list as you all know it by now. Instead, here are just a few random thoughts from my San Diego experience. The venue is old- Stevie made a point of telling the story of how Fritz did a show there in '70 (Lindsey said '71) and opened for Leon Russell. She said "It was one of those things where you look out into the audience and see all those people and see your future coming right at you."
I got there late (apologies to gypsysara for not meeting) after dinner in the Gaslamp District. There was a horrible traffic jam going into the venue and the parking is really messed up and I got lost a few times. I ran to the will call window and got my tix just in time to get to my seat and the sound of the crickets. From the venue seating chart I thought I would be in front of Stevie but to my delight and surprise I was right in front of LB again. He was wearing the white shirt and a great smile and a nice California tan. His voice sounded much more rested and clear than it did in Dallas. He was even getting a little fancy with his vocals on NGBA as if to say "See, I don't need a voice coach or an ear monitor." I swear they know what we're talking about over here. Throughout the evening there was a little blonde boy sitting on the stage next to his monitor and when LB did Big Love the little boy did the "Ooh ah" parts with him, really getting into it. He also strummed Lindsey's guitar with a pick a one point. I noticed he wasn't there during the louder songs like Come and ISA. Lindsey did the "dead man's pose" again after Tusk where he just kind of hangs there at the waist and makes these funny noises. There was a lot of guitar pawing and letting people play his guitar and touch him but no broken strings. He also signed things for people and most surprisingly did the "Stevie walk"- walked the length of the stage and shook people's hands maybe becasue she can't bend because of her injury. He was very generous.
Miss Nicks looked radiant and for those of you who care, I noticed three red roses taped to the end of her mic and a single diamond ring on her left ring finger with enough carats to make Bugs Bunny envious. She was relaxed and happy for the entire show, even when a power failure caused some of the lighting to go out behind them. She walked to her mic and said that the lights went out behind us so if the rest of them go out then "Baby you are the light." The place went wild. There were no variations in her performances and once again Beautiful Child was FLAWLESS. People were amazed. For Gypsy, she wore a rose colored print duster similar to the one in Dallas. The one in Dallas looked beige to me. I did notice in the darkness as she walked on and off stage that she walked very slowly and with a very slight limp. She broke out the medium speed spins for Stand Back. We looked at each other for what seemed like an eternity during Goodbye Baby. I just put my hand over my heart.
At the end of the show someone in front of me held up a sign that said "Come Rocks My World." Lindsey got quite a kick out of it and tried to point it out to Ms. Stevie but she wasn't having any of it or him. I noticed a few instances like that during the evening. Lindsey pointed it out to Mick and they laughed some more. McVie was McVie, solid as a rock looking happy and rested as well. I noticed Stevie likes to talk to him and Brett Tuggle between songs. We were treated to the Say You Will lasso dance and I think I've got it down now. She clearly gets a kick out of doing it. Mick as usual was making his faces and playing drums. I could live without the whole World Turning vest thing but I don't think that's going away anytime soon.
After the show, a local radio station replayed the show but I'm not sure if it was the show or a rebroadcast of the Anaheim recording for Westwood One. I thought I noticed a few subtle differences. I can't wait to see them again.

Thanks Marissa! I don't know who the little blond boy was. He was with a blond woman with shoulder length hair. I'm not sure what Mrs. B or little Mr. B look like. Mr. B. Sr. was looking mighty fine, though.

In Lindsey's BTM, Will has straight brown hair. Leelee is blonde and so is Mrs. B. Unless Will's hair all of a sudden changed color, it's probably not him. Maybe a nephew or another family member or family friend? That's so cute that the kid was singing and playing with him. How old did he look? Will is five now...

Great review, thanks for sharing!

If I'd have written a song on "Rumours"? How about "You want a what?", or "We should have had a Pre-Nup". (John McVie)

Thanks, Goldie! Fabulous review! I got a kick out of hearing Lindsey was the one that went around the front of the stage and shook people's hands. And that "Come" sign...hahahaha. Did Stevie even stay onstage for "Come?"

Has Stevie ever stayed onstage for Come?

I don't think so~ not that I know of~ that reminds me of an LB article I read, he said he had asked Stevie to sing on "Come" but she refused. [and i'm paraphrasing here] "she probably thought it was too dirty, which seems surprising for a rock and roll icon that she would think that, but she's actually quite conservative about a lot of things" so it sounds like gldstwmn was right on target with "she wasn't having any of it or of him"

gldstwmn: THANKS for mentioning Stevie's ring on her left ring finger, it is absolutely gorgeous and I would love to find out its significance~ I thought I was just seeing things!

I've seen her wear diamond rings on her fingers before (even the left one). I heard when she turned 50, Mick bought her a diamond ring. I read it in an article when she was launching the Enchanted Tour (which opened up near me in Hartford).

Marissa, you're in luck. I, like any old mall chic, have a very large suitcase. I will be going to a show or two next month, maybe St. Louis, KC, or Salt Lake. I haven't decided yet. Of course I will be going to the show here, it's 3 minutes from my house.
The beach was great. I went to the beach in Coronado and everybody was surfing! So of course, now I want to try that next time. The water was much warmer than the Atlantic with kelp floating around in it. It was heavenly and so relaxing, just what I needed. San Diego is a fun town. I can't wait to go back.

Noooo. She AND the girls left the stage for that song. That song is all about the male members of FM. Oh, I just crack myself up!

This little boy was about 5 or 6. He was very comfortable just sitting on the stage, like he'd done it before and he knew all the songs. He hair was distinctly blonde though.

I mentioned it becasue it was the only ring she was wearing that evening. If Mick bought if for her, then the man has good taste in jewelry. I'd like to see his wife's ring.
