Stevie Nicks remembers former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Bob Welch

July 11, 2012 5:40 AM

Stevie Nicks remembers former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Bob Welch as funny, smart and "one of those jazz guitarists that could just play any chord in the world." Nicks was shocked to learn of his apparent suicide just last month, telling Gayle King, "I can't even tell you what in the world would have pushed him to do something that crazy."

The Gothamist

Last year Lindsey Buckingham announced that Fleetwood Mac would be touring in 2012, which he later told us would be delayed, saying, "It’s funny because six months ago or less even there was quite a bit of talk. I know Stevie was talking quite a bit about it in interviews... then I think somehow she started to feel she wanted a little more time to work this [solo] album." So here we are again, with the band tugging at our hopeful heartstrings—this morning in an interview with CBS, Nicks said the group is reuniting in 2013.

Nicks says everyone is on board for "next year, so far... it's the plan. Because that's what we do. I do my thing. And Lindsey is out doing his thing now" (Buckingham is currently on tour until at least September). Presumably when they finish up their solo stuff, they'll focus on getting the gang back together, though it's unclear if Christine McVie will return—she left the band in 1998 and hasn't been present (except for in the audience) at their previous reunions.

^ I don't think it's unclear if Christine will return. I think it's pretty obvious she won't be.

AND I CAN ONLY HOPE AND PRAY THAT SHE WAS GOING TO SAY " if there's no new album"

please let this be

I didn't like that statement from her. Maybe she didn't think
out what she said. If he was in a lot of pain I can understand
him not wanting to live.

Now, I'm not saying that it's ever right to commit suicide. I
just wouldn't call someone crazy for doing it.

On a lighter note...
Gayle King, is she from another world???

I know. It's only been 15 years. Why is it unclear? They just take a 10 year old blurb and update it for these pieces sometimes.

Maybe no one told her about the failed back surgery!

I know it wasn't meant like that, but it gives the passing impression that she thinks he just jumped up and decided to do it at the spur of the moment. Michele

I am sure she meant it crazy in the sense it was so unexpected, and so out of character. After losing her mom the way she did, having a friend commit suicide would throw anyone. Just from the look on her face, I don't think it ever occurred to her to be asked that particular question. It was in poor taste but considering what I saw of the show before she came on .........

As for Gayle King.... she should climb back under her Oprah rock...
I was going to give her the benefit of the doubt.. as that dress she was squeezed into obviously cut off the flow of oxygen to her brain.... but I understand from several people. she is that classless ..........................

Oprah and shows like hers have led to interviews like
that. The dumbing down of America. I guess Mike Wallace
was too busy to do the interview.

What was Mick's quote about Bob's suicide? I can't remember now, but I thought it was something that came across different than he probably meant it. I'm sure it's hard to know exactly what to say, when the subject is so tragic and your words are so scrutinized.

Yep, CBS had a special about Wallace after 60 Minutes last Sunday (repeat).
Though I still think he could do a better interview from beyond.

I thought Stevie looked fabulous in this video.

Gayle King has always annoyed me. I thought the interview was overall good..but, it just irritated me the way she kept probing with "Are you still just as creative without drugs?" question.
That is a ridiculous question, in my opinion.
What is she going to say: "Why hell no Gayle! Since I quit the straw and mirror I haven't written anything but ****!"

C'mon!!!

"I know there is a push on to get Bob Welch inducted into the HOF and alot of blaming people for not including him with FM... From different things I have read Chris and Stevie had little to do with the decision as it was strictly Mike Fleetwood's call....
I am sure if he can figure out a way to make some cash from it Bob Welch will not only get in, but I am sure Mick will be happy to collect the award for him.....
I have always heard there is a reason Mick keeps his balls on a leash "

Ummm, I just watched this. Is it just me or Gayle a little too blunt or maybe judgemental. I liked some of her questions, but she a little attitude or something. Threw me off.

LOL. About Gayle, I think she tries to be like Oprah, and fails.
