Earplugs anyone?

To wear or not to wear? What's the story about earplugs? I wouldn't be caught dead at a rock concert using those things. However lately I've heard of other people using them such as Lindsey's kids and people in the audience. Does anyone at the Legde use these items? I just took in four concerts and I must admit, my ears are ringing a little, but I loved every minute! I wonder if any of the band members use them? Taking all that loud noise night after night might be a problem. Does anybody know?

I had never used earplugs until the first LA show last week. I work at the CA DMV phone center and after the last show I went to (which happens to be Stevie TISL show in Chula Vista) I had a hell of a time hearing my customers for a couple of days. I'll be using the plugs again tonight. They really don't "plug" the ears, they more like "filter"--keeping those sound waves you feel thrusting through your chest (Oh yeah, I could feel the music) from thrusting against your eardrums for 2.5 hours. You can still hear everything the band does--you just can't hear the people around you talking.

I'd go for it--especially if you'll be going to multiple shows in a short time.

I did take some earplugs with me to the American Idol concert, but I couldn't get them in my ears comfortably, so I just went through the concert with my fingers plugging my ears, which is what I did at the FM concert too off and on. It DOES filter out the dumb audience who won't shut the heck up (

) and also that "white sound" (can't explain it any other way), where you can actually hear the vocals better.

I'm already freakin' deaf anyway, so I don't bother. There's almost always a little high pitched "Weeeeeeeeeeeeee" in my ears. I'm not sure if it's because I've put the minidisc player in Rec mode while potted up a few too many times or if it's just a thing- I had surgery on my right ear (which is where i REALLY cant hear) when I was younger, so I think part of the problem might be there.

If you're concerned, maybe you should take some just incase.. better to have and not need than need and not have, right?

on what type of concert hall is how I decide if I need to have earplugs with me...

The past 5 concerts I've seen been in big arena's so I passed on the earplugs, But I should've used 'em when we saw country-rocker (And Lindsey fan) Keith Urban...He was very VERY LOUD!!! And he was much more a "rocker" than a "country" artist in concert (I highly recommend seeing him live or buying his great "Golden Road"...Ya may think it's by a country artist until the "E-Bow" & "John Shanks" production kicks in...Then it rocks!!!)

Seriously - it's easy enough to stick a pair into a shirt pocket or purse; if you decide not to use them, no big deal. And having worked in a factory for the last 13 years or so, I can confirm that protecting your hearing is a very, very good thing to do. (I even wear earplugs when mowing the lawn now.)

Funny thing is, I didn't have them at the first concert and walked out with my ears ringing. So I took 'em to the second concert - with much closer seats - and ended up putting them back in my pocket....

The mini-Bucks probably had earplugs because they are so little and they are more apt to hearing damage. Also, little kids can get scared by loud noises, so that might be another reason why they had earplugs.

You guys have convinced me to at least take them in my pocket and try them out. I just didn't want to offend any of the bandmembers....Ha ha! Has anyone else noticed that the concert gets progressively louder as it goes along? Compare the opening songs to let's say....I'm So Afraid. I swear, when that one kicks in, my chair on the floor started vibrating backwards!

Yes, Lindsey's kids ABSOLUTELY need to have the earplugs in....as a general rule, 15 minutes of continuous exposure to sounds louder than 115 decibels, such as that produced by loud rock music or sandblasting or jet engines WITHOUT any protection...so for the kids it is very important.

I'm curious though, do his kids have just earplugs (those foamy things stuck in their ears) or do they have like headgear on? I only ask, 'cause Dave Matthews (he's the only artist that I know of who has kids around the same age as Lindsey's) has his daughters wear these headphone looking things when he's out on stage....and the kids are only out there for about 15 minutes to a half-hour tops....just enough to wave to Daddy and have Daddy wave back...(it's really cute to see)

As far as the rest of the fans, it all depends. I usually don't mind the "ringing in my ears" the day after a concert, however, this summer, i'm going to 2 shows in 2 days, so I may be sorry I didn't bring them!!

Ohhhh that is so cute about Stella and Grace Matthews!!!!

I think at the show where Will and Leelee were watching Daddy, they were only there for a little while. I mean, I can't see a 5 and 3 year old sitting through an entire rock concert late at night. I would think the time the show started would be bedtime!

At the OKC show I was wedged up against the speaker on the stage. When Mick was doing his drum solo I had my finger in my right ear. Lindsey was kneeled off to the side of the stage and he looked at me and put his finger in his ear and shook his head like NOOO and then smiled real big.

I think that is great how Lindsey really interacts with the fans! I love hearing random little stories like that. I for one have never been anywhere close to the stage at any concert, so I can't imagine needing to wear earplugs! LOL

I have a funny story about earplugs and it also involves Fleetwood Mac, imagine that! Anyway, at the Dallas show a couple of weeks ago this guy came up to me and asked if he could pinch off a piece of my plastic bag, (that was holding my Say You Will tee-shirt, mind you) in order to create some make shift earplugs out of it. He then proceeded to tell me that he went to a Styx concert back in the day and shoved some paper in his ears (another pair of make shift earplugs I guess) and couldn't get them out because they got stuck in his ears. I wanted to tell him "that's what you get for going to a Styx concert" but refrained! LOL!!

Anyway, I suppose my story is a cautionary tale, if you're going to wear earplugs make sure it's the real thing! Don't stick foreign objects in your ears!
