Those are nice pictures and the color is a little dusky, softening his features and warming his smile. He looks gentle.

This was the fifth time I've seen Lindsey live, and the first time I left a little... disappointed. I'd seen the smallish set list online, but was still surprised at how little time LB spent on stage (70 minutes, tops). And the aforementioned setlist seemed uninspired to me - there was nothing significant added (IMO) since I saw him last year on the first leg of this tour, but there was quite a bit deleted. And the canned backing music does occasionally give the impression that you're watching a karaoke show. If LB wants to do an acoustic-only solo act, fine. But if you want percussion and backing guitars, bring musicians out on stage to play them! Also, I was surprised he made no mention of Bob Welch - I kept hoping LB would play the intro to Sentimental Lady as a tribute, but that's my own personal expectations intruding on what I think are otherwise legit gripes about the show.
Of course, LB's actual performance was stellar as usual. RS says he's the 100th Greatest Guitarist of All Time - which is about 90 slots lower than I'd rank him! The guy can still flat out play, and watching him perform is still a joy and a privilege. He seemed more relaxed than at other shows, but almost to the point of (hate to say it) going through the motions on a few songs. Still, LB phoning it in is still more enjoyable than 90% of other artists I've seen giving it their all. I'm probably being a little harsh in my review, mostly because of the quantity and quality of the set list. The guy has an amazing catalog of tunes from which to choose, and very few of my personal favorites were hit last night. So that's more my problem than his, I guess. On the other hand, with such a short set list, the odds of me seeing an "Eyes of the World" or "Down on Rodeo" or "Treason" or "Holiday Road" or "Did You Miss Me" or "Monday Morning" etc. etc. were pretty low. My fave LB album is "Out of the Cradle," and unless I missed something, it was completely ignored last night. I might just boycott future LB shows until "Countdown" is added to his repertoire! (My fave LB track, and I've NEVER seen him do it live... )Overall: B- *ducking for cover!* |

^ I understand what you mean. Lindsey might not have known the date, but he knew that there was an FM tour coming along sooner or later. He knew that he'd just had a fulfilling SWS tour. He could have used this in-betweener for something special, unique, and eclectic. He could have really gone off the beaten track. Instead, he doubled down and headed along the same old road -- with a shorter setlist and piped in music.
It is disappointing. I mean, no band and 90 minutes still might have been ok if there had been more Stephanies and less of the NGBA security blanket. Michele |
