In regards to the stories not matching up (is it me, or is this a trend with those two?), I kind of figured it was just Lindsey playing coy and not wanting to give too much away without permission from Stevie or the two of them being on the same page- an attempt to prevent drama, if you will. Especially because of his whole "But you already talked to her, didn't you?" quip, which I kind of took as a what-do-you-already-know type inquisition.
So in my mind it's something like, Lindsey and Stevie obviously had some communication before Stevie's interview, after which they may or may not have met up to discuss further, listen to songs, and whatnot. Then Lindsey does his interview and states his desires but doesn't really give any specifics on what has/hasn't happened so as not to bite the bullet or anything. I think it definitely seems like Lindsey is the primary instigator of this endeavor and he's probably trying to flatter Stevie and play nice with her so he stays on her good side... and I think he knows what he's doing... I can imagine the inflection in her voice when she told Paphides how Lindsey was inspired by her mother and how they've known each other since they were teenagers etc.
