In the text of one of my posts in this thread I write about John Pierce's bass contribution to Steal Your Heart Away. Details are in that thread.

I believe John shadowed some bass part by literally playing the same bass lines on the black keys of a synth. Noted on Illume and Everybody Finds Out.

I'm imagining Stevie or Lindsey playing the white keys, with John reaching around from behind to play the black keys! LOL

John Run, I'm pretty new to the Ledge and I don't "know" you...but I sort of find your story strange...

And as for the higher voices (on the album as a whole, not just on SYW), didn't Lindsey play around with the vocals? I read an interview where Stevie kept asking LB "Are you sure that's not Chris's voice? It sounds like her!?!?!" and LB said that it was his and/or Stevie's "fooled with."

I know I'm not the expert here...I'm just adding my thoughts for a more livelier discussion

Been here a few years....Have been able to provide some "inside" industry and radio tidbits during that time.

Guess you really don't like knowing it is Sheryl Crow on the song Say You Will...

Hahaha, funny you should say that about Sheryl! I like her as a solo artist but I find her involvement with Stevie and FM weasly at best. It's like she's trying to get "in" with them, trying to be cool...if you know what I'm saying... I find it annoying too.

Dude, you gotta learn to leg go. That's the first thing. Second, your statement that Sheryl wants to be cool by hanging out with a bunch of 50-somethings gave me a hearty laugh. Wouldn't it be the other way around? Do you really think Sheryl needs to hang around these guys to be cool or popular?

Like it or not, she is quite talented. And she has plenty of other friends in the industry. They wouldn't waste their time with her if she weren't a true talent.

As for the black keys, literally it means the black keys on a keyboard. That the band specified that on the lliner notes was most likely an in joke.

I think you misunderstood my post...

Letting go? What? I didn't know there was a limit to how many times something can be discussed...

I KNOW that the black keys mean the black keys on the piano...my little scenario I posted before was a joke as well.

I'm not mad at you, so I hope you don't take it that way...just wanted to explain myself.

I totally agree. I'm not really a fan of hers to begin with but her constant attachmen to Stevie and FM is getting a bit tiresome.

Plus I love how she tried to pretend she's above all the industry BS with selling an image and then turns around and starts dressing like Britney Spears saying it's okay because she's older?

Whatever, the radio doesn't give her the nick name "the borrower" for nothing.

At the TISL shows I attended, SO many people booed every time she came onstage. She looked wicked trashy too--very Britney Spears, as Rob put it . I went to see Stevie, not Sheryl. If they want to do a tour together, fine. I just didn't like how it was billed as Stevie Nicks, TISL and then I had to watch Sheryl sing her solo songs... The ones she did backup/duets with Stevie were fine...

They call her the borrower?? LOL

Oops, I don't know how I missed that the first time, John... but thank you for repeating the info for me.

Thank you also for clearing up the "mystery" regarding John McVie & the Black Keys.
I think Joe (DownOnRodeo) and I were both hesitant to believe that it really was something as simple as him literally playing just the black keys on a keyboard!
I guess some things in life really are as simple as they appear.
