Smile Portland, Seattle and Spokane Shows!!

I was lucky enough to attend all three shows here, in the beatiful Pacific NW. All three were amazing experiences. I posted some about Portland already, so hopefully, the MODS can move that over here ( along with any other Portland talk ( currently in the "...solo tour under way" thread ).

So I'll star with my Spokane review since it was most recent ( Monday night ) and freshest on my mind...

SPOKANE:
Nobody at the stage until GYOW, but it didn't matter...he could feel ( and hear! ) the love all night. All night he was really smiling and laughing a lot, and he seemed especially relaxed and at ease with us. He played everything just beautifully - as always. The crowd was really quiet during songs...not much whooping and cat calling or whatever. Just digging the music, but being real respectful. The venue seemed sooo small ( though it holds about 750 people - the bacony was twice the size of the lower section ), that I think people just didn't feel the need to get closer - they already were! There were a few people up front, though, that would step forward, fists pumping, but usually after standing O's everyone sat back down...until he started GYOW! THEN, everone stood up to dance, but were also too hesitant to go to the stage for whatever reason ( way too polite, I guess? ). Soooo, I said to my seat mate, let's go! And we did That's all it took, and everyone followed Well, Lindsey went to his left first for beginning of the solo, and then, as I knew he would, he crossed over to our side. We were right at the main front speaker on the left ( Lindsey's right ), and correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've heard, he hasn't let anyone strum the M1 on this tour yet ( I guess, as he has to keep in time with his looped rhythm track? ) BUT!!!!! I was reaching up so obviously, I guess - and not at him, but, clearly at the neck of the guitar, so he came in real close and lowered the guitar towards me ( I feel like I'm writing a romance novel - lol ). Then, when I was about to strum it, he pulled back and kinda laughed, like "gotcha!" . Funny, Linds But then he came right back down and got it low enough that I couldn't miss it, and he couldn't get away So I strummed it happily!! He liked that, I could tell. Then a few others tried also ( since I showed 'em how! ), and then he came back by me again and gave me one last strum. It was great. After the show, we went to the stage door - which was only about 50 feet from the front door ( VERY small venue ), and there he was!! People were so calm and nice, instead of the usual yelling his name and shoving stuff to autograph at him, they were so polite about it, but there were pretty many people, and I couldn't get to anything to sign, and my camera was not doing well, so I just got in closer, and manged somehow to get a hug and a kiss I noticed during our hug that his jacket is ridiculously soft. It's no wonder he doesn't take it off...I wouldn't either. SUPER soft. His arm felt nice under it too. Anyways, he was so gracious and wonderful to everybody. During the concert he thanked us all for sending him home on a high- note ( I'm paraphrasing ), but basically he appreciated the love and energy coming his way before his trip home. Makes sense. Ending a tour leg with a lame audience would not be fun, so I'm glad we could do that for him. He deserves it
God I love him <333333

I got one incredible video from the Spokane concert:

And one nice audio/mp3 of Shut Us Down... At the end, around 06:32, an audience guy yells out "who needs a band?!", and Lindsey's reaction is so sweet, I had to share it:

I'll post some photos in a bit, from all the shows and some videos too. Lots of good videos came out after the Seattle show, especially

so good to hear that the last show of the west coast leg was so great!

as far as i know there was no solo right by the audience or guitar strumming at any other shows - he always stayed behind the speakers, seems that he always had to control something back there... maybe he decided to just let it go for the last show? or he couldn't resist it when you so obviously wanted to strum ? who knows, but that's great!! maybe he'll let people strum on the east coast leg...

i love that ISA vid - i just LOVE ISA on this tour period!! (even more than usual)

and love the little convo at the end of SUD you shared: "who needs a band?" "you ARE the band!" "it does get a little lonely out there "

can't wait to hear about Seattle and the rest of your Portland story!

I'm so glad you got that video! We got a few on the phone but the sound is really distorted. They are up on youtube now. Had I known there would be NO security I would have just brought my camcorder!! You're right, it was so small and intimate that it almost seemed rude to go up to the stage, but when we did we must have been standing right next to you cause I got a strum in too, and got the set list. A gal standing next to my son just jumped up on stage and followed him back behind the curtain after he left. I've never seen that happen before!! lol It was just fantastic and my son was in heaven!! He plays guitar pretty well and I told him one time about 4 years ago that I'd give him 500$ if he could learn to play Big Love, never expecting that he could even come close. Well, guess who had to cough up the money! It still blows me away.

I SAW you!! I saw you working at that set list - lol. It was taped down good!! And I saw your son, too. What a great show for him to attend!! I agree, if I'd known how little security was there ( three out-of-house guys who were very mellow ), I would have taped more. But, at the same time, when I'm in the very front it feels weird to be behind a camera with the show RIGHT THERE in front of me...seems almost awkward, ya know? BUT, having said that, I'm glad so many great fans have done just that over the years. Anyways, finally, I just put the camera on my leg, and checked it occasionally to make sure he hadn't drifted out of view

When that young woman jumped up on the stage, I saw her and said to those around me, did you see her??!! LOL. After she came back down, I asked her what happened and she said there was no security so she just went for it amd that someone asked who she was, and she told them "I'm his niece" and they were fine with that, I guess. Anywhere else, that wouldn't have happened. Security in Seattle and Portland were more on the ball.

That is just TOO funny! Yeah, I could barely peel that thing from the stage. Somebody got the numbers 1-7 on the side edge. I didn't feel like I should say "hey, I want the whole thing!" ha. Especially since all the songs are on there. But yeah, he was really winking away at that gal during SWS and I thought he must have known her. She must have thought it was an invite!! Crazy!

L.O.L. I didn't notice that!! Too funny. I was so into SWS I didn't notice. I love when the whole audience is swaying and singing to that, up by the stage. I guess she mis-read him though, 'cause she came back pretty quick! He was really friendly with a lot of us near the stage - once we got up there!! The guys on both sides of me were so excited at shaking his hand ( as was I! ), and one of them, Lindsey looked right at and pointed and gave a big smile, sort of as approval of the guy's enthusiasm! It was all very cool

Is this yours? I'm so glad you got this, where he thanks us for sending him home! I don't mind that it's scratchy, it's awesome to have!! I'm going through your others right now. At the beginning of your Go Insane video, is where he makes the comment about it getting lonely sometimes.

Great review and wonderful pictures. Yes, that was sweet. I imagine that the road is even more tedious without a band. He was alone a lot anyway, but at least he had company on the plane, maybe a short get together after the show. Now, there's considerably more isolation.

Default Seattle - Neptune Theatre

Seattle was a really fun show. VERY enthusiastic crowd. The Neptune Theatre is in the heart of the U-District ( University of Washington ). It was U-District Street Fair that weekend, and Seattle International Film Festival going on too, so good mix of people and most at least a little buzzed! I was about 6 rows back or so, dead center, just a couple rows in front of the sound board. In retrospect, I should have gotten audio that night. Video was hard as security was everywhere, and yet, somehow a LOT of great videos came out of this concert. Security said take all the photos you want, but NO VIDEO. I almost got Trouble, complete, but the guard was staring me down the whole time and finally started waving his arms so I had to shut it down...and started it up a few seconds later, when he turned away. But, I missed the solo Despite this major disappointment, the security was pretty nice, and it was a great evening all around. Lindsey, as always, was ON!!! Lots of nice reviews from this concert, too The cutest moment of the evening was when Lindsey was introducing Big Love. He mentioned he wrote it in 1987, and a kid in the audience ( college-aged ) said, loudly, "I wasn't even born then!". It was pretty quiet when he said it since Linds was talking, so it was heard loud and clear. Funny as hell, and Lindsey's expression(s) was priceless. "Wow", he said, and then, that he had no good reply for that, except thanks for being here! Here's the video ( not mine ) from that...

Here are my Trouble videos, including edge walk ( Part 1 and 2...no solo )...

And here are some photos I took that night ( a few more on the way )...

Yeah, the ones that say littlestrawkid are the ones my son took on his phone. I wish the sound was better, but oh welll...
I absolutely love all your pics!!! You did an awesome job!
I just saw a SWS on youtube this morning that's new. You can see a guy in the right of the frame and I'm to the right of him. He was singing on the Ra ta ta ta part and I couldn't help but smile cause he was a little (way) off and the video caught it. He will be so happy! lol Seriously, it's just such a moving song that you can't help but sing along whether you can sing or not. Just beautiful.
Thanks for sharing all your stuff!!!
