Teen finds human finger in his Arby's sandwich

JACKSON, Mich. — A Michigan teen made a gristly discovery after biting into an Arby's junior roast beef sandwich.

Ryan Hart said he had nearly polished off his sandwich last Friday when he bit into something tough to chew that tasted like rubber, so he spit it out.

Turns out it tasted like finger. The fleshy pad of an unfortunate employee's finger, apparently.

"I was like, 'That (has) to be a finger,'" Hart, 14, told the Jackson Citizen Patriot on Wednesday (http://bit.ly/LeTa5f ). "I was about to puke. ... It was just nasty."

The employee apparently cut her finger on a meat slicer and left her station without immediately telling anyone, said Steve Hall, the environmental health director for the Jackson County health department. Her co-workers continued filling orders before they became aware of what happened, he said.

John Gray, a spokesman for Atlanta-based Arby's, released a statement Wednesday apologizing for what he described as an isolated and "unfortunate incident." He said Arby's is still investigating, but has determined that the Jackson workers shut down food production as soon as they found out what happened and thoroughly cleaned and sanitized the restaurant.

The injured employee was treated at a hospital. Gray said the franchise has fully cooperated with health officials and was given the approval to remain open.

Ryan's mother, Jamie Vail, was incredulous. She and her friend, Joe Wheaton, had taken Ryan and his 11-year-old brother to the Arby's drive-through, and she said she thought her son was joking when he exclaimed he had found a piece of a finger in his sandwich.

"Somebody loses a finger, and you keep sending food out the window? I can't believe that," said Vail. She and Wheaton said the severed section was about an eighth to a quarter-inch thick and at least one inch long.

Vail said she called 911 and met police at a local hospital, where her son's blood was drawn and he was prescribed some medication.

Ryan said he is feeling fine. Vail said she has been in touch with a lawyer, but has not decided what course to take.

Hum I never have had Arby's before. The finger did not taste like chicken. Also it was like rubber. To bad for the employee.I guess OSHA will see and check out the restaurant for safety.Plus The customer might call his lawyer up if he needs too. He sure won't be stepping into that restaurant again. Also plus the employee will be collecting workmans comp insurance after the safety checks are made. Also the employee mind as will say goodbye to her job too.I see this on the news all the time. Restaurant Food slicer,Meat grinder accidents happening all the time.

Naked Woman Walks In Two New York Stores

A woman who walked naked into two New York stores and asked for the time has been charged by police with public lewdness, the Times Union newspaper reports.

The woman, who has been identified by Saratoga County District Attorney James Murphy III as Barbara Lafleur, of Saratoga Springs, calmly walked in each store and was captured by security cameras in each.

The first store on Lafleur’s short shopping tour was Curtis Lumber in Ballston Spa, New York. While there, witnesses said she approached two employees before leaving the store of her own accord, telling one employee on the way out, “Have a good day.”

“No one wanted to say much to her,” remarked store manager Bob Eakin to the Times Union. “It’s not a situation you want to be involved in.” It is kinda awkward.

Having failed to score any wood at the lumberyard, Lafleur then walked into a Stewart’s shop nearby, before being asked to leave. One employee told the Union:

“The manager said, ‘Ma’am, are you aware you have no clothes on?’ She was kosher and cool about it, and the manager told her she needed to leave.”

Lafleur has since been charged with public lewdness. In a statement released shortly after charges were pressed, Murphy III gave an insight into Lafleur’s motives:

“While the defendant claimed she was merely expressing her freedom to be fully liberated by walking nude into Stewart’s and Curtis Lumber, this alleged conduct is actually a crime under the penal law. Surprisingly, mental health found no psychiatric issues whatsoever.”

Lafleur could face a maximum of 90 days in jail if convicted.

Pretty much my ALL TIME favorite fast food sammich!!!

Back when I was heavy, my biggest request was always, "two beef and cheddars, with a mountain of Horsie(sp) sauce!"

I've not tasted one in at least 3 years, now.... DAMN though, it sounds so good!

Well, isn't Publix the biggest chain down there? Is there still Winn Dixie? Piggly Wiggly(sp)?

Sorry, I've not been south of TN, for about 7 years now....
There ARE Publix in TN, but far more Krogers.

I live in Tennessee and I've never heard of Publix or Winn Dixie. Where I live its all Kroger and Walmart. There was a Piggly Wiggly further south in the next county, but that was like 10 years ago, so I'm not sure if it is still there. Walmart and Kroger has pretty much taken over 'round here. Food Giant is starting to grow, too.

I know there's at least one Publix in Nashville, although I can't remember where it is(west end, I think). There used to be a Piggly Wiggly on 12th Ave South, in the ghetto, but it closed several years ago, and I've never seen another one there.

Crap, what's the other "hometown" one, that has mostly went out of business...."H.G. Hills"? Is that it? I think there's still one or two of those, although the rest have either sold out, or just closed the stores.

Here in southern Indiana, we're all either Kroger(yay!!!!), or Marsh(Indiana based, and have also closed quite a few stores in recent years), or Walmart. Oh, and Aldi's! Even though I buy a lot of non-grocery items from Walmart, I refuse to buy my groceries there. My mama raised a Kroger boy, and I shall die a Kroger boy! Although I do buy a few cheap things at Aldi's...

A Trader Joe's recently opened in Louisville, and I've been known to stop on my way back from Nashville, and buy a case or two of Three Buck Chuck Merlot!
