So I'm thinking why was it fleshed out enough to sing live in concert and put on a live cd but not good enough to actually record on a album. So that doesn't make sense to me.

Madeline, that incredibly vague explanation is what I've heard as well and it doesn't make sense to me either.
Heaven is one of Heart's greatest songs and with the proper arrangement and production, could be wonderful for an album. Perhaps, it will be included on their next album
Fanatic.

Heart Of Darkness was an outtake, recorded for the
Heart album in 1985. If I'm not mistaken, it was included as a B-side for the
What About Love single. There are a few demos that have circulated from that era. One of them is
Victim Of Paradise and another is called
Love's Taken Over Me. There is video footage of Ann Wilson recording these songs in the recording studio, which I've heard, was intended for a documentary that was never released. Some of that footage, I believe, is available on YouTube, including Ann singing
What About Love with Grace Slick and Mickey Thomas.
I've also heard that there were other songs considered in 1984 for what eventually became the Heart album, including
Break The Rock(a "heavy-metal" kind of song that initially was offered to Joan Jett),
Sister Wild Rose(originally titled
Sweet Deceiver),
Ghosts and
For Your Love(i.e.
If I Have To Ask For Your Love), which was performed live in Florida. Unfortunately, the demos of
Sister Wild Rose and
Break The Rock that I've heard exist in a vault, will probably not be on the retrospective compilation boxed-set
Strange Euphoria due to be released next month.
