It's also quite possible that Lindsey is only part of a composite that she made up for the song. I know songwriters who use that technique all the time. Sometimes in the context of a particular song, there's only a line or two about a specific person that is literal. Then you have to start thinking of others to be able to finish the story. I've done that in short stories too. That's the beauty of creating.

I know what you mean. In my little, tortured, Stevie/FM obsessed mind , I have thought that phrase "he fell for her again, she watched it happen, everyday, day by day, but more important, night by night" could mean that she saw LB falling for her music and trusting her and each other again and that every night, they played it up for the audience, which was why it was more important "night by night." That kind of goes along with she can dedicate her pain to him (presumably LB) by writing songs about it, etc., and it all being so overwhelming.

I think La Nicks often cleverly uses general phrases that can have two distinct meanings. A good example would be "the lonliness of a one night stand is hard to take" - For like 17 years, I thought that was about sleeping around. Then, in 1998, she reveals it is not about that at all and she was talking about how it was hard to let go of the audience's adulation after a concert.

What has she said/done to the fans?

I think we have to remember that Kristen is fairly new to the Mac stuff, and might not be used to hundreds of people trying to get a glimpse of her husband. She lived a pretty obscure life before meeting Lindsey...I can't find ANYTHING about her. I don't blame her for maybe being a little mean to the fans, especially if they are infringing on her/her children's personal space. She's not the star here.

Well, I wasn't taking any jabs at anybody in my post, and I am addressing the original question in the OP.
So here's some regularly scheduled programming for ya:

Strandie, as for what her songs are about, yes I think there is quite alot of composite stuff happening.

I also find it interesting that in a recent article Lindsey was quoted as saying that there were songs of Stevie's that for a long time he thought were abouth him, only to find out later they weren't or they were a composite...........

Well, I ask you, whay would he think that?

I mean, there has to be a reason he thinks that. His feeling that it is HAS to be based on some real event between them.

Now, I'm mainly talking about the 80's. I'm not even going to go there right now as far as The Dance is concerned, because that is really a different matter.

In short, to write off their relationship as having eneded 27 years ago when it obviously didn't, is causing alot of the story to be missed.

Ah... That's what I thought.

You know, it may come as a shock, but I've been accused of glaring myself. I've even been accused of glaring when I didn't mean to, and this by people who actually know me. Imagine that.

In regards to my comment about the relationship ending twenty-seven years ago... I really do believe the love/romance stuff ended at that time.

I honestly don't think they found themselves falling in and out of each other's beds after that.
Maybe for a brief time directly after the breakup, but I can't see that still happening on the 'Mirage' tour, for example.

They had a hard time getting over each other because, as they've said, they had to continue working together and see each other.

Lindsey had to sit down and take these songs Stevie had written about him... and, even worse, possibly about other men... and arrange them, and produce them.
While Stevie had to find some level of trust to allow Lindsey to do that... forever fearful that some deep-seated animosity towards her might cause him to sabotage the effort.

And then there was the "proving yourself" ego thing that they both had.
Her wanting to prove to him that she could be just as successful without any help from him... and him wanting to prove that he could be happy and productive without her.

For some reason I don't get the feeling that either of them ever looked at who the other was dating, and thought, "that should be me."
I really don't think it was unrequited love that kept them at each other's throats... I think it was just a matter of old lovers wanting to prove something to each other.

They can work together now because they got past that stuff, but they still argue at times because of how passionately the both feel about the music they're working on.

Yep, you're right... Stevie definitely does that, and has said so herself.

One specific example: in interviews for 'Trouble In Shangri-La,' she stated that the first few lines in the title song ("I remember him, he was very young/no one spoke like him, he was someone") were written about Lindsey, but from there it was about other people and events.
(In fact, I've often wondered if the lines, "and you, you got in my way/ stood between me and my friends," were about Jimmy Iovine, whom I've heard was very territorial in regards to Stevie.)

So, yeah, this is definitely something Stevie does, and songs like "Thrown Down" and "Destiny Rules" could very easily be about more than one person/event.
That they're written in such a way for the listener to put his or her own interpretation to them (and to have that desire to interpret them) is one of the brilliant elements of Stevie's writing.

AND - when she uses pronouns, in theory she could be referring to more than one person. Or, when she uses the word "you" - that can be referring to a different person each time. TISL the song is a great example!!!!
