Everyone ooh's and aah's about it now because the sound is fresh compared to what's on the radio, but will people be all that blown away by it 20-30 years from now? Probably not, because the people that didn't experience it as it was happening won't have felt how different it was from the other stuff on the radio at the time. That's all I meant by that statement, though I suppose it was worded poorly.
I don't get the Adele thing at all, except that I think this generation is desperate. There is nothing special about that album.

Anytime in any era with some artists having hits on the charts for months on end plus having hit after hit with releasing two to three albums within a year .I call them over exposed and overated. With all these talent reality shows on tele now which is a glut of them producing manufactured talent .Back in the old days with artists like Fleetwood Mac Beatles and artists in that generation had to bust their rumps to get their names noticed. Here today these new artists go on these talent reality shows with millions of viewers watching the shows.I mention this before. These new artists like Adele probably will fizzle out probably in 5 to 10 years.Artists from the 1990's up to now are blah compared to the Fleetwood Mac generation artists or earlier.Yes I agree on overexposure on some artists. It seems like Stevie,Lindsey solo and rest of FM got Eff'ed with that dept.As we know. What kills me is when I see these artists pop up out of nowhere and clean house at these music awards shows.Nora Jones was one of them at the grammys.I said who in the hell is Nora Jones. Her tunes are ok.

With Fleetwood Mac's Rumours LP back when it was released.I remember people were fussing about FM being overexposed and overated at the time.

In the country music dept.

I agree on Taylor Swift been overexposed. But I love her music though. To bad the teaming up with Stevie went bad.I still blame the show producers.
Rascal Flatts are overated .The lead singers voice is annoying.

So, Springsteen...I have mixed feelings. I don't think he is overrated as a performer or lyricist at all, but he is a bit overrated strictly as a musician. He often has trouble communicating what he wants to hear in the studio and making it happen efficiently, from what I've read. However, the man is a PERFORMER and he knows how to put on a great, sincere show! I saw him in Detroit during his current tour, and he played for three hours, and it was the best concert I have ever been to (or ever will be too, probably). He pulled out a bunch of oldies, but they were wonderful, and his voice is still in great shape. I do agree with the previous comment that his 1975-1984 material was the best, but Tunnel of Love (1987), Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ (1973), and The Wild, the Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle (1973) are pretty great too. At least he gives his band credit, I guess. I really am a fan of his lyrics, because they are pushing the edge of cliched a lot of times, but they are still unique and fresh enough to resonate in the souls of the listeners, partially because he integrates his rhymes with musical phrasing really effectively. His backlog of qualitysongs is astonishing as well. . I'll always be a Springsteen fan.

I agree. I am 21 years old, and I really don't think Adele is anything special. She has a nice voice, but I do think it's overrated. Someone like Joss Stone, on the other hand, I think is underrated. She has an extremely powerful voice, something really special that doesn't come along every decade (although recent production may not showcase it that well).

Nirvana (I do like them but they didn't change the world), Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Bob Dylan (see my Nirvana comment). There are more but it's early here and I can't think!

Okay. Have somewhat of a list now

Lady Gaga (As previously mentioned)
U2
Kings Of Leon (Just...Just go away! Nobody wants to know if your sex is on fire! Except maybe a medical practitioner who could prescribe you a cream to fix it)
Madonna
Justin Bieber
Beyonce
The Sex Pistols (They were edgy, but certainly not talent. I believe the only reason they were so big in their day is because they caught the wave of civil unrest and rode it to shore)
Barry Manilow (Sure he wrote a couple of nice songs, but you can't listen to him for longer than two songs before wishing for the peaceful bliss of silence again)
Neil Diamond (Just...Bleugh.)
The Happy Mondays (Council Estate Chavs singing about drugs while some poor sod with ADHD makes a fool of himself dancing on stage. That's not a band. That's a Friday night at a low rent pub)
Morrisey (Please. Somebody buy this man a Cake or something and get him to cheer the hell up. He's the musical equivalent of clinical depression.)

I can't stand his voice, either. It's like nails on a chalkboard for me.

DMB was hugely popular when I was in college, and the weird thing is, many of my college students love them as well. I'm thinking....get a new band already!

Sara1998 and Michelle2677 are both fans, and have asked me to go....."um, er.... no thanks, unless I can gouge out my eardrums first, with an icepick!"

If I had a FREE ticket, I still probably wouldn't go...I'd rather sit in complete and utter silence, than listen to that crap!!!

Aww see, I have a soft spot for Neil Diamond. As for the Happy Mondays though - God, no! They can't play their instruments, they can't sing, Bez can't dance...

I have to say the Sme for the Sex Pistols. They were just useless!

RADIOHEAD

I mean, yes they are good& have a solid following but WOW the level of extremes people go to when talking about their music. .they aren't and never were the second coming. And a batch of their recent work hasn't been all that well received yet the over the top worship continues.
I wish people would branch out and look for other bands to fawn over, there are plenty out there who are as creative & "edgy" as Radiohead.

Imagine paying $1000 to hear "Don't Dream It's Over" instead of "Go Your Own Way"

Fleetwood Mac helped me through a time of heartbreak. 12 years later, they broke my heart.
