I do not own a copy of "In Your Dreams" that does not include "My Heart" . I think it's one of the best songs on the album. I can't imagine it not being there.
Was it ever explained why the song was only included on "special" releases? I can't imagine the thought process behind that decision. Also, is it only the US version that doesn't include it on the "standard" version? I thought last year I read that the European versions include "My Heart". Anyone know if that is true? Thanks! |

Not that this has anything to do with your question but, I'm one of those that loves loves loves the TISL version so much that I can't even bare to listen to this new version. I don't know what version she actually intended it to be the way she wrote it or if someone suggested she change the versus around but I feel they got it right with TISL. The "new" version seems to lack the emotion and passion AND ... it is missing that long note from the TISL ... sigh ... they messed with an already good thing.

I think he made the song work with her voice. She sounds great on it. I like both versions. However, when I listen to this song and thrown down and If You Ever Did Believe, makes me wish these songs were on TISL. They belong on there.

I agree with Travis. The TISL version just has so much more going for it.
The melody on the verses, compared to the rather monotone and robotic IYD version verses, is so much more interesting and just has so much more life and vibrancy. I can't help but wonder if the toning down of the melody on IYD has to do with the vocal range that the TISL version probably required. Stevie doesn't really use a very large range on IYD (I think because she's not capable of the range she had only 10 years ago), and they may have adjusted "My Heart" accordingly, to account for the new vocal range she's more comfortable with. And maybe this is why the track got relegated to being simply a "bonus" track: it's kind of disappointing compared to what it COULD have been. Just my thoughts :-) |

I think it's probably a bonus track mostly because of time. The album is already rather ridiculously long..
Most likely they just felt it was the weakest/didn't fit with the rest for some reason so they took it out & gave it bonus material status. Just my guess.

I prefer her vocal on the IYD version but I much prefer the sound of the demo. If there was a way to put the vocal of IYD with the arrangement/sound of the demo, that would make the perfect version for me.

I'll be cynical and say I think they do stuff like that so die hard fans will spend the money to buy two copies of the same album.

I love that song. And I initially preferred the TISL version demo I had but the IYD version has grown on me quite a bit--I like both versions about equally now but I wish that one of the other songs on IYD would have been dumped for My Heart instead. I personally could have done without Secret Love--I despise that song.
