That's just silly! People who do not do backups of their data are complete idiots. Makes no sense to me. Not to mention all the new online services to store data even if you do not back up your hard drive. It's all so easy.
In addition, if your home (God forbid) is destroyed by fire or theft or any of those types of things, always good to have a backup offsite as well.

It is sad. You would never have guessed that cds are on the out judging by the number of people I saw milling around HMV today; browsing through all the albums, cds in hand.

I have an ipod and download music for train journeys etc, but I still buy albums too for the car. I much prefer having something tangible like an actual cd. I don't know why?

I have to say, for a few years I was on the OMG I MUST HAVE A PHYSICAL COPY spree and I never bought full albums off of iTunes. I hated the idea of physical copies potentially disappearing in the future. However, now I buy most of my albums off of iTunes. If it is one of my top favorite bands, such as Stevie, I definitely shell out the cash for a physical copy, but only for the artists I really really love. I think this is becoming the norm for the industry. I don't think the days of physical CD's are coming to a close altogether, but I do believe they will eventually become niche items with limited releases only for the fans that actually buy them. And frankly, I'm okay with that.

Who knows.I hope vinyl comes back.I was upset when CD's killed off vinyl records. If the digital downloads is the thing. They better have a price drop. It's not costing them nothing to produce and shipping the hardcopy to the dealers. If they don't .I won't buy new music anymore.Sorry Stevie.

It's greek to her.Personally I rather own a CD then a downloadable from Itunes. When the computers hard drive crashes .Mind as will say goodbye to the tunes. Most people don't bother backing their computers up.In the meantime they should be cheaper then the hardcopy. This will end me for purchasing new music.
People who don't bother backing up their data deserve what they get, quite frankly. And digital downloads *are* cheaper than physical media, so I don't know what you're talking about. I remember paying $20 for a CD 10-15 years ago. A digital album can be had for less than half that price.

Christ, people are grumpy on this thread. They're not taking the old girl down to the glue factory, they're discontinuing a couple of CDs so old they could drive themselves to the record store to buy a CD. There are so many copies of TOSOTM on CD in the world, you can buy one used for 77 cents on Amazon if you really want one -- that's why they're discontinuing it.

Nice tangent, to bad it missed the mark. My question to the poster was in reference to him feeling the need to correct someone's grammar. I was wondering if that made him feel good about himself ?

I couldn't help it. It just sounds so ignorant.

I hope people realise that a digital download is inferior quality UNLESS it's lossless format such as FLAC or wav.
If you rip a CD even in 320kbps you're compressing the music. To me this makes the CD valuable still. Until ALL digital music is offered in lossless quality I will continue to buy CD.

Hehehe. I forgot to add about those online storage sites.Forget it with them. Remember Megaupload. They are here today.Maybe gone tomorrow with you backup files..

Just go to Walmart and get a 3TB WD portable drive for about $150.I got three of those portable drives.

BTW .I wonder how many Rumours CD's are out there. The market is probably flooded with them.

I don't believe people can really hear the difference. "Audiophiles" have simply convinced themselves they can.

I agree 100 percent.I refuse to pay for MP3's.The normal person probably would not notice the artifacts swishing around in the sound of their favorite artists song.

I rip at 320kbps all the time.
