Yes, that extended mix of the song is really great. It should have been included on the Enchanted box set. I'm still wishing for another box set featuring all the other rarities.

I have the UK issued CD single of "Long Way To Go," which oddly uses the same artwork from the 'Two Kinds of Love" single. The listing is as follows:

1. Long Way To Go (7" version)
2. Real Tears
3.No Spoken Word (live from Red Rocks)
4. Long Way To Go (remix)

notes: track 4 engineered and remixed by Stephen W. Tayler

We know she left sessions with Rupert,
in England, in a big hurry. He made it

having even named the record.
guess i'm behind here, but i thought the sessions were in a "fabulous castle" estate in LA that rented for 25,000 a month. didn't know they recorded in England.

Mirror was an album that came out around the end of my Freshmen year in college. I was doing college radio and had snagged the single of Rooms on Fire from the radio station promos. I listed to it over and over. As much as I loved Rooms, it was Alice that captured my heart. I've been a fan of the original Lewis Carol Alice books since I was a kid and all the various incarnations and having Steve in Wonderland thrilled me. Although I had always wished the covers of the album were reversed because that image of Stevie standing in that gorgeous red dress on the checkerboard floor reminded me so much of the Red Queen. That album will always remind me of that place I was in going from child to young adult. Leaving the past of my small town behind and living in that strange limbo that college is and facing the great unknown of adulthood. College can be a strange and surreal landscape if you let it and boy did I. My first experiences drinking and smoking pot. My first times staying away from home on my own, unsupervised. Road trips to friends' homes in towns I've never heard of. I jumped at chances to live an unusual life and Mirror was the perfect soundtrack to that early leg of the journey.

In any event, I'm sure Jimmy was a nightmare. Maybe not a beautiful one, but definitely a task master in the studio.

The more I listen to this one, the more it actually becomes one of my favourites.

I remember waiting for this album to come out and then being majorly disappointed because it was nothing like RAL, which I simply adored. I've never totally warmed up to this record, even after all these years. I have a problem with all those keyboards! Still it does contain Rooms on Fire, one of her finest songs ever to make its way on an album.

And CAH wrote that Jimmy didn't like Stevie doing drugs, so she would have to sneak and do them when he wasn't around. This probably made her dislike studio time quite a bit.

I was making the point that Stevie is still friends with her exes. And the whole Beautiful Nightmare thing fit in perfectly.

Right, mixing sessions, I think.

lol...I had the opposite reaction. I was thrilled that it sounded nothing like Rock A Little! It seemed more grounded and centered, and I thought the lyrics were better written.

Oh sorry. I thought you were implying that she came up with the "beautiful nightmare" line on her own. My bad.

Default Love That Album!

OSOTM is my favorite. I love the darkness, as well as the Poetic feel and fire/fairytale theme. I think it's brilliant.

I feel the same. I think it has some cool songs on it--all of Stevie's albums always have a cool batch of songs on them. But what turns me on (or off) ultimately is what the songs sound like. On Mirror, I've never been able to warm to the Euro style of production and the near-absence of a bottom end, especially on "Rooms on Fire" and "Ooh My Love." Plus, I don't like the way her vocals were recorded. I bet if I heard Stevie's demos for all these songs, I'd love them.
