I think Stevie should promote IYD as long as she wants. Who knows? This may be her last solo album. After that, if FM wants to do a new album with new songs, then great! Tour by all means! But I am not interested in another GH tour. I'm over that. If they want to pull out mostly obscure songs they've never/rarely performed live, I'd go for THAT, but that'll never happen.

Also, I think Stevie does want to be in Fleetwood Mac, she's just unwilling to let Mick tell her when she should be a part of it. He's not her daddy. She's a grown girl who can do what she wants. Mick can pipe down.

What a sh*tty thing to do to Stevie while she's most assuredly still grieving the loss of her mom.

I agree that that is the pose he most commonly adopts, but it's utterly hollow. I've said it before on the LB forum and got crucified for it, but if you want to see what a really uncompromising artist looks like, may I direct you to Lou Reed? He refused Susan Boyle permission to sing 'Perfect Day' on TV, and has been known to play two- and three-hour gig sets that don't include a single recognisable song. Contrast with Twinings currently using Go Your Own Way to flog teabags in the UK and LB always including his big FM hits in his solo sets 'because you have to'. Well, no, actually, Lindsey - you don't have to, unless you're a spineless pseud breadhead.

There are plenty of bands from the 60's & 70's who are still touring (and making MORE than a decent income)...and they MIGHT have one, MAYBE two, members of their most well-known lineup. Heck, most people couldn't even name ONE member of some of those bands, but "they were always one of my favorites"...so, what the hell, get Cyndi Lauper, get Rick Vito (if Lindsey won't do it without Stevie), get the damned guitar player from a Fleetwood Mac tribute band (like David Lee Roth did for a solo tour by getting his guitar player from a VH trib band).
People will go see Fleetwood Mac...they might be disappointed that Stevie and/or Lindsey wasn't there, but they definitely wouldn't be able to say the music wasn't good.

Oh...it's a shame Mick & Lynn are divorcing. Can see he's got a lot of stuff going on in his life right now.
Full article is up.

Just read Mick's full Playboy interview. I didn't know he was divorcing from his wife. Also, it sounds like it's really over with Stevie this time.

I will bet that Stevie will come out and confirm an FM tour next year. Oh-oh Dee. Now that Mick is a free man, he and Stevie may end up together in the end. A long tour . . . it's bound to happen .Michele |

I read the entire article and I actually sympathize with Mick. I totally get where he's coming from. If Stevie had committed and said she was going to do the tour, I get being totally let down by her dropping out to continue to tour for In Your Dreams.
Whilst I love the album itself, why continue touring with Rod when I'm pretty sure the only songs she'll probably keep in the set are Moonlight and Secret Love. Surely that's not her way of touring for a new album? Sure, I've seen the few dates where she'll be solo, but still. If it's really that much of a bother to her, pull what other bands do and throw your solo stuff into the bands setlist. Hell, they already do Stand Back, don't they? Mick played on Secret Love, Lindsey could sure as hell play the guitar bits obviously, throw that track in and give Lindsey his spot for Go Insane and some other track of his for crying out loud. There are so many ways they could get around this. And it sucks that Mick feels that way. Sure, Stevie is in her 60s and she has the right to do whatever she wants whenever she wants, but if I had the type of life Mick did, I'm sure he loves being out on the road and I'd be a little upset too if things were going into motion and then just stopped all of a sudden due to changes of heart. Such is life, and again I get it, but it still doesn't make the situation feel any better. Unlike Mick, I think Fleetwood Mac will tour again, because they all seem to always go back to the Mac Club after a while and most of Stevie's solo plans never pan out anyway (Hey, how'd ya'll all like that Rhiannon movie, eh?) so I'm not going to go ahead and weep about the soon-to-exist "R.I.P. Fleetwood Mac" just yet. Also, on an un-related note, just to play Devils Advocate here, besides "touring" for In Your Dreams with Rod this year (with, I'm sure, hardly any songs from it), how is she any better if her reasoning for not touring is there being no new material and just oldies? Now I know this hasnt been said by any party involved and just thrown around here, but surely she has no room to talk? Within' the past 20 years, the Mac have only done two Greatest Hits tours (The Dance and Unleashed) while Stevie has toured 6 times that I count with no new material and just oldies (Enchanted Tour, her Vegas set, tour with Don Henley, the Gold Dust tour, the Crystal Visions tour, and her summer 2008 tour). If Stevie did say she'd do the tour, then I think both parties are at fault. I can understand Mick being upset, but he shouldn't be taking it out on Stevie as she has the right to do whatever she pleases and if Stevie did agree to a tour, then she shouldn't have backed out after agreeing to it in the first place as the rest of the band was counting on her commitment. Here's hoping Fleetwood Mac can sort their **** out. I still want a new album for my collection before they're all being pushing around in wheelchairs. Edit: Or Hell, tour without Stevie and re-name the band Fleetwood Buckingham Mac. LOL I kid. Last edited by KenshiMaster16; 03-16-2012 at 02:48 PM.. |

Yeah, Mick is clearly playing the pity card here. I don't begrudge the fact that he must be going through an extremely unsettling, introspective time in the wake of his divorce, which is certainly not being helped by the fact that he is sitting idly within his home these days surrounded by memories. But why did he need to do this type of an article for Playboy? What is he promoting? My suspicion is that he feels abandoned because his Mac comrades did not rally around him in his time of need. So in a sense he is rejecting the rest of them before they get a chance to reject him. However, he is lacking the stones to confront them individually, so he is airing his grievances in this public forum. Passive aggressively.
So will Mick's stunt work? Absolutely. Stevie does not want the blood of Fleetwood Mac on her hands and Mick knows it. I can understand Mick feeling out of sorts and unsure about his life at the moment, but when the dust settles, he will realize that he's playing with fire. Nothing is more near and dear to him than Fleetwood Mac- not even his children. When he realizes it's all he has left, he will be back to scheming and politicking for a reunion. |
