Oh, there is no way she made that kind of money last year. I'm too lazy to do exact calculations, but I would estimate that she did approximately 50 shows last year, including the Rod shows, and that she got paid anywhere between $250K (as an opening act) to $350K (in Australia). That means she probably grossed around $15 million; however, I suspect she has to pay for her band, crew and their transportation expenses out of pocket. After paying off her lawyers, accountants and managers, she probably made about $9 million before taxes from touring alone. What seems fuzzier to me is the money she earned from IYD. Just the publishing alone probably gets her around $1 per album. Including performer royalties, she probably gets $2.50 - $3.00 per album but has to pay for all recording and video expenses. She saved a lot of money by doing the bulk of recording at her house and by shooting all the videos at her house over a few days. Not including the salaries of her full time musicians, the production costs altogether were probably in the neighborhood of $150-$200K. If she sold 200K copies in the U.S. alone (probably not much more ex-U.S.), and you factor in the "man hours" of work involved, she probably barely broke even. Ugh. It's no wonder she was so reluctant to record for ten years!

Thumbs down

i have tried to not be annoyed by this.
but I HATE IT! HATE IT!HATE IT!!!

OH .GOOD. GOD THE HORROR, THE HORROR!

Here we go again. With the extreme contrasts tour..
Stevie in her dresses with her horses and german art behind her.
ROD in his shiny yellow coat showing pics of his sons playing soccer and himself in drag. saying nonensical things like "Got me nickers in a twistytwist again." talking talking talking when he should be at least singing which by the way, some people say that stevie has lost range, WELL she aint got nothin on ROD. His music is turned up so so loud to attempt to cover up that fact but its obvious.
Then the ROD fans are an entire breed of their own. You can seriously, SPOT the rod fans and the stevie fans. its like your going to 2 different shows. I'll have to bob and weave and duck away from the CRAZY ASS Rod fans diving and willing to assault whoever for soccer balls.
PLUS Classless rod will be once again miming talking off his "nickers" during leather and lace.
I agree with whoever said earlier its still just playing for an audience that is not there to see you. WHy WHy Why.

I can only hope she sings moonlight in her (no doubt shortened due to make more time for rods pics of his dog) setlist.
If I see moonlight live in a red rhiannon dress id sit through rod and call it worth it but Hes so obnoxious.

Anyway, i'll be there, in the first five rows like i always am, but Rod again. uh. Stevie really?

Stevie Interview regarding her tour with Rod. Complete Interview Link: http://www.americansongwriter.com/20...-stevie-nicks/

I was gonna ask you how that tour went.

It went great. He’s trippy, he’s charming. I’m used to English people so I’m very comfortable with the English people. They are very witty and very funny and charming. You can’t not like Rod Stewart because he’s darling, and he was very good to me and he gave me a chance to take my new album around the United States and do 18 arena gigs, which, by myself, I could not command. I can’t play the arenas that Rod Stewart and Fleetwood Mac play. So taking me with him, he allowed me to be able to go play my single and say a few little words about my record in 18 huge cities, in 18 huge venues. He gave me a wonderful platform for that. On the last night I said to him, “If this record really does well Rod, I’m going to be sending you a cashmere blanket.” He really helped me in giving me that platform.

Did it feel like there was a particular age group in the audience or were you reaching new fans as well?

In Rod’s show?

Yeah.

Well, I’m starting to really be aware that there are children out there, I mean there’s kids, there’s 14-year-olds and 15-year-olds and 12-year-olds and 18-year-olds and 25-year-olds and 32-year-olds. It’s pretty much going across the board now, which is great. And it’s the same with Fleetwood Mac. When Fleetwood Mac first reconvened in 1998 for The Dance after not playing since 1987, since Tangle in the Night, there were mostly people that were our age, a lot of people who looked definitely older, and Lindsey said, “Where are the younger people?” I said “Lindsey, give it a chance here, these are all the people that are our fans, and their children will come along with them and so will their grandchildren, by the way, so just give it two weeks,” and in fact that’s exactly what happened. Within weeks, there was like, super young people there, and it’s because we had great, serious fans, original fans in 1975-’76, ’77, ’78, and their children have grown up with us, and their children. Lindsey and I were 27 and 28 when we joined Fleetwood Mac—we had fans for those first two records that were probably, 50? Twenty-two years older than us? So think about that now. We’re 63 and 62. So if they’re still alive, we have fans in their 80s! [laughs]

I agree with all of this. I'll probably go to at least one show. Leave after Stevie's set. I'm not doing Rod again.

I am actually more for it this time around. There is pretty much no way Stevie could go out and do any sort of real tour on her own this year so it is either this or a bunch of one off casino shows. Also, I think this tour will help finance and promote the documentary. The only other thing Stevie really could be doing would be working on another album, be it solo or with FM, which I would absolutely love! But I think she has made it pretty clear that she is doing nothing of the sort until IYD is done.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you didn't attend the last time. It was ridiculous watching a fourth of the arena trickle in while Stevie was singing. Not caring about "the opening act". It was so rude and so disrespectful. I'm ALL FOR Promoting in your dreams until it's done but playing 3 songs or so from it in front of an audience that doesn't care if your there or not is not really the best way to do that. This is why I'm VERY happy she is going to be on that show on NBC, Hopefully they mention the new album now thats promotion.
Whatever happened to appearing on
david letterman?
jay leno?
jimmy fallon?
conan o'brien?
george lopez?
the view?
saturday night live?
glee?

You're correct, I did not go! What a bummer that is. Too bad they won't switch it up this year and make him the opener.

I wish you could have gone she was great she always is. I would also be for switching it up except for the fact that the obnoxious and I mean that, really obnoxious
Rod stewart fans making the mass exit after his set would be horrifying.

The best thing she can do right now is continue touring solo. There's tons of places she didn't go for during the initial tour and plenty of small arenas or outdoor arenas that she could pack no problem. Going back on tour with Rod is basically giving up on the new songs because I'm fairly certain she's going to go back to the old setlist she did before except for MAYBE exchanging one or two for Moonlight and For What It's Worth, I'd bet anything...

What she needs to do if she wants to continue promoting the album, even though it's almost a year old already (wow, time flies), is do promotional television work for a SOLO TOUR on say Conan, The Talk, The View, Good Morning America, Leno, Letterman, American Idol, The Voice, ect ect ect. THEN to continue the press, and I know it kills certain people, a new MAC album/tour.

I remember kids at my high school when Say You Will came out even talking about the CD and how they'd seen the tv spots and stuff all over the place. Nothing gets main attention like a successful album going right into a brand new Fleetwood Mac project.

I swear, she'd be better off with some of the people here managing her....

This is what I would like to do, no disrespect to Rod, but I don't enjoy his music and don't want to sit through it when I really don't care. However, I'm going with my sister who likes him so we will probably stay for the whole thing.

I wish she would tour solo, but I'd rather have her with Rod than not have her at all. I'm not even going to attempt to get great seats, first row in one of the cheapest sections would be fine by me. No way I am paying $150 a ticket when more than half the show is someone I don't want to see.

Sure, I wagerd she grossed approx. 18-19 million (between concert guarantees, publishing royalties (both catalogue & IYD) & artist royalties. You're guessing @15-16 million gross. So give or take a few million, we're in the same ballpark. I was just making the point that Stevie made a considerable amount of money last year (definitely in the 1% of earners) and last year was not a bust and or Stevie doesn't continue to tour to pay off IYD.

Out of Stevie's gross, of course you've got to deduct the cost of doing business & maintaing her salaried employees paychecks, lawyer retainers, management fee's, accountants, PR fee's, the cost to produce & record IYD, plus uncle sam's cut etc., ect. All in all she probably still netted upwards of 10 million.

And I agree, Stevie continues to tour this year to maintain her overhead, NOT to break even or pay for IYD or the IYD Documentary. Also, Stevie undoubtabley has many other investments that we're not privy to generating dividends on top of everything else she earns.

Bottom line is Stevie is completely solvent, she is not dependent on record sales to stay afloat any longer. The bulk of her bank has been touring the last 10-11 years solo or with FM. But Stevie (more so than any other member of FM) continues to have a decent amount of overhead; parasitic family & extended family to support, musicians on retainer as well as other employees, managers, etc. She will pare down as she grows older obviously, but she is getting while she still can.

In Your Dreams is done. She's not touring to promote that. No more than she's been touring a little almost every year the past decade with no new music to promote.

Stevie is touring to promote STEVIE!

That's what she's always done. Stevie is a brand. Since the begining of the last decade she's been working it the best way she can. She's touring with Rod because she can do the least amount of work to reach the widest possible audience. It's also a way for her to bank the easiest paycheck. Mama has overhead. Breaking even is still worth it to her if her people can make a living while she keeps the "legend" going for as long as possible without falling into the red to do it.

Touring with the Mac comes with a huge can of worms for Stevie. The politics of that situation changes everything. If making money was her ultimate goal, she'd run the Mac into the ground while singing all the way to the bank. Fleetwood Mac is a brand too, but with a different agenda. Stevie is only one link in the chain.

Question is, if not for the money or promoting new music...why keep the Stevie thing going? She can collect her Social Security now. No matter how much we think she lives for her music, she won't die if she stops working. Her solo image/legacy is about a solid as it's ever going to get.

Best guess: if Fleetwood Mac ever does another project it doesn't hurt that Stevie, and Lindsey, too, have continued to work and keep themselves in the public eye since 2003. Maybe they've got something else up their sleeve?

Edit: I meant this for a different thread. Sorry for the double post.

And THIS is why I'm not going. Who needs it? I don't want to seethe with anger at a concert, I want to enjoy Stevie!

And regarding the little interview snippet: "Tangle in the Night?" Now THAT would have been a great title for that album!

I didn't see Rod & Stevie last year, but did get to see her solo. I will go this time around if they come close. I drove 4.5 hrs and to another state to see her solo. At this point in her career and my life, I know what the important things in life are....seeing my favorites (Stevie's #1) as many times as I can. Not sure if she will tour past late spring- weather will be heating up, so maybe it will be a short reunion...
