I was going to post my own thoughts, but you took the words right out of my head.
Stevie slightly transitioning into a folk-rock, country vibe seems like a natural evolution. But she will always "rock a little."

Interscope!!! i wish FM had gone to Interscope for Say You Will, but i bet band politics didn't want to be on a label with such a strong Stevie connnection.

Just cause Jimmy Iovine runs Interscope doesn't mean diddly squat. The prime roster over there are hip hop artists. Jimmy knows where the true dollars are in the business today and is well aware that a FM or SN album is not going to make him a millionaire (again).

I disagree. I know lots of people love the idea of Stevie being more folky and country, but I just feel it is so typical. There are tons of female country artists and it would be expected that a woman in her sixties would mellow out and embrace country. Some fans may like it, but it isn't anything that hasn't been done before and isn't anything that would stand out. Stevie doesn't need to mellow out, she needs to rock more! She needs to go balls to the wall and make a statement that women and people in their sixties can still kick ass in a genre that is dominated by young males. Artistically, it would be ground breaking. How would it fare commercially? Who knows, but she'd definitely get some recognition for it instead of just becoming another face in the Country and Adult Contemporary crowd.

Stevie doesn't need to prove anything to anyone. She has the recognition. Yes, she is a rocker, but her country leanings have been there since the beginning, and there has always been a balance between the two.

Your idea of her going "balls to the wall" is interesting, but what exactly does that mean? Do you see her drastically changing her approach, and do an all-out heavy Led-Zeppelin-like album?

She's still going strong for her age, but what can we reasonably expect from her? There is a lot of dignity in not trying to compete with or act like someone who is 40-plus years younger.

Stevie has been very consistent in her music style. However, the idea of her doing a more weighty, Waddy/guitar heavy album is intriguing.

I see your point, and I think you're absolutely right that going the softer, country/folk route would be the predictable choice for an artist at Stevie's age. But I don't know if she would become just another face in the AC crowd because she brings with her the fact that that's not all that she is. A country album from Stevie would be just that: a country album in a sequence of rock and pop-rock albums. And I think that's more interesting in PR terms than belonging in that genre all along.

Having said that, the real question to ask about Stevie's next album is really about the one after that. She's 64 in May, but where is she heading, at 65 and 66 and 67 years of age? I would argue that she has already proved that a woman can rock in her sixties, and there's no need for her to distort her artistic ambitions to trailblaze unless that's really what she wants to do.

But if I had her ear, I'd be pointing out that if IYD tells us anything, it's that she has always had a foot in more than one genre, and to me that suggests that she should think in terms of planning at least two albums: a pop-rock one and a mellower country-folk one. Just make all the music that's in her heart to make. All of it, Stevie! All of it!

Oh don't get me wrong, I love Stevie's constant balance of Rock, Pop, and Country in her albums and if her next album is to be one of the same nature, I'm down! But if Stevie decides to consciously make the decision of either going more country or more rock, she should definitely go more rock IMO. Going country would just be so very unoriginal and more of something the industry would push for because it is more commercial and safe. And by balls to the wall, I don't mean that Stevie should become screamo or into anything that she isn't, but to embrace her rock side a little more, bring in some more guitar and some intense vocals and wails, stop praying to the commercial gods, ignore what the industry says, and make a crazy, wild rock album that she loves and is capable of.

I think Stevie should just stick to making music like she always has - a mix of whatever it is her heart is feeling, pop, rock, country, whatever. Don't mess with a good thing, etc.

but Interscope was bidding on their contract for Say You Will. it was discussed in the documentary. i just think Interscope's marketing could have done wonders for the first FM studio album with Stevie n Lindsey since Tango!

People, people....let's remember the original source material for this "story".....the NATIONAL ENQUIRER!!!!! Not Rolling Stone, not Entertainment Weekly, not even People......but the NATIONAL frickin' ENQUIRER!!!!

This fact, combined with the fact that there is no mention of a new Stevie Nicks album in ANY quarter this year for WB/Reprise ( at this time), has me shaking my head and not believing it until I see or hear about it somewhere else!

In my mind the best thing and easiest thing and furthermore hippest thing for her to do right now would be to give someone like David Guetta a stack of demos and have them compose piano beats from her compositions. She goes in with the girls, lays the vocals and VOILA! Done.

I think we all know it's a unsubstantiated rumor. But dreams are free right?

And besides, it's fun to speculate what could possibly be next in Stevie's career coming off a high quality & creative project as In Your Dreams. The sky is the limit. She could veer off in many directions after her film/documentary is finished & released.
