January 2, 2012 New McCartney album title confirmed, now artwork leaked ? You can stop wondering. Paul McCartney's new album to be released Feb. 7th is called "Kisses on the Bottom," according to a report on NME.com. The paper said the title was confirmed with McCartney press representatives. The title of the album reportedly comes from the song "I'm Gonna Sit Write Down and Write Myself a Letter," which is one of the tracks on the album, according to an early leaked but unofficial tracklist. If there was any hope of keeping information about the album secret, that seems to have gone. In addition to the tracklist, the entire album seems to have been leaked. A mono audio stream, which first reportedly showed up on streaming sites, confirmed the leaked tracklist, though the order of the songs was different. It began with what, according to the leaked tracklist, was supposed to be track 9, then went back to the beginning of the album and included the rest of the tracks. (A second unofficial rumored tracklist runs in the same order as the stream, starting at the first list's track 9.) As the leaked versions aren't in stereo, the released versions could have some differences. http://www.examiner.com/beatles-in-n...artwork-leaked Examiner January 1, 2012 Beatle news briefs: Beatle songs ring in the New Year in N.Y., Oklahoma A BEATLE NEW YEAR: What's a party without the Beatles? And what's a New Year's party without celebrities doing Beatle songs? Justin Bieber took on "Let It Be," which he performed with Carlos Santana backing him on guitar. (See video at left.) As much as one wanted to cringe hearing Bieber sing the song, Santana's guitar made the song listenable. But Bieber wasn't the only one doing the Beatles in Times Square. Cee Lo Green sang "Imagine". But he changed the lyrics from "And no religion, too" to "And all religion is true." Comments on YouTube were extremely critical of both the revision and the sentiment. http://www.examiner.com/beatles-in-n...r-n-y-oklahoma Mail Online January 2, 2012 Cee Lo Green changes lyrics to Lennon's Imagine to include pro-religion message enraging fans New Years Eve performer Cee Lo Green dropped a bomb on John Lennon fans Saturday night after changing lyrics to his song Imagine while on live television. The last words of lyrics 'Nothing to kill or die for And no religion too,' by the late Lennon were changed to 'And all religion's true' by the hip-hop artist who sang in New York's Times Square.Broadcast before 2.304 million viewers of NBC's New Year's Eve with Carson Daly right before the ball dropped, Mr Green's change didn't go unnoticed and attracted immediate criticism. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...ging-fans.html Last edited by msLinds; 01-02-2012 at 06:52 PM.. |

International Beatles Freak Day
January 2, 2011 It has been announced that International Beatles Freak Day has been given a new name and a new date. The new name for the world's original Beatles celebration day is International Beatles Fan Day, which will now be celebrated worldwide on June 6."Since its inception in 2008, some fans have expressed their dislike of being referred to as 'freaks'", says Jennifer of I-BFD. "Though many embrace it, I thought it was time to gather all the 'fans' into one category and rename the holiday. Also, our original date, January 14th, had no meaning in Beatles history. Now the annual celebration will be held on June 6, which is the anniversary of the day the Fab Four auditioned for George Martin."There is also now a new newsletter to go along with the new name and date. The original I-BFD.com mailing list was lost in a computer crash in August 2011, so fans are asked to sign up for the new newsletter on the homepage to keep up with news and updates. http://www.i-bfd.com/ Ultimate Classic Rock January 2, 2011 Paul McCartney – 2011 Artist of the Year Winner Paul McCartney had a banner year in 2011 — and now has one more accolade to show for it. January 3, 2012 GEORGE MARTIN It's interesting to see how one person can make a difference in so many lives. For anyone who saw Frank Capra's It's a Wonderful Life again over the holidays, the idea is probably fresh in your mind. As a person can act as a catalyst for others in daily life, like a conductor of sorts, so can a person conduct mass culture over the course of their career. Sir George Martin is the man with the golden ears. Blessed with musical genius and a sense of humor, Martin is a bit like the Wizard of Oz- the man behind the curtain- whose work as a producer and arranger defined the music and humor of the last half of the 20th Century and beyond. The artists he worked with include Flanders and Swann, Peter Ustinov, The Goons, Peter Sellers, Sophia Loren, Beyond the Fringe (with Peter Cook and Dudley Moore), Matt Monro (of From Russia With Love), Gerry and the Pacemakers, Cellia Black, Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas, Jeff Beck, Elton John, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Paul Winter Consort, and America. In addition to multiple Grammys and other major awards, George Martin has scored 30 #1 hits in the UK and 23 #1 hits in the US. http://spyvibe.blogspot.com/2012/01/george-martin.html Ultimate Classic Rock January 3, 2012 Ringo Starr, ‘Wings’ – Song Review Ringo Starr exposes his own Achilles heel on his first single from ‘Ringo 2012,’ the solo album expected to be available in stores and at digital retailers on Jan. 31 ‘Wings’ is a less passionate, border-line lifeless vocal performance of a previously released song from the 1977 ‘Ringo the 4th’ album.Listen to the remake below and then find the original on YouTube. Stream The Flaming Lips & Plastic Ono Band’s Joint EP January z4, 2012 Psych-rock kings the Flaming Lips did a ****-ton of collaborating in 2011, releasing EPs with Neon Indian, Prefuse 73, and Lightning Bolt. And they ended their year with another one, releasing an extremely limited-edition extended-player with a group of fellow experimental explorers, Yoko Ono’s Plastic Ono Band. The group only pressed up 2000 copies of the EP, selling them all at their Oklahoma City New Year’s Eve show, which the Plastic Ono band opened. But thanks to the magic of the internet, we can still hear all four songs from the EP. January 4, 2012 The Beatles Road Manager and Gentle Giant Remembered, 36 Years After His Death Article first published as The Beatles Road Manager and Gentle Giant Remembered, 36 Years After His Death on Blogcritics. There are many contenders for the coveted title of "Fifth Beatle." Some qualify due to their brief yet influential period as a fifth musical component of the Beatles' early career. Candidates include Stu Sutcliffe (bass) and Pete Best (drums) and to a lesser degree Chas Newby, who temporarily replaced Sutcliffe on bass, and who declined John Lennon’s request to join the group permanently in Hamburg in favour of returning to University.Others qualify due to their business relationship with the group, Brian Epstein and Neil Aspinall spring to mind. Then you have production candidates: Geoff Emerick, Norman Smith and of course "Fifth Beatle" extraordinaire, George Martin. There is one candidate however who fits almost all criteria as "Fifth Beatle", and who spent more time with the group than possibly anyone else in their short professional career. Road manager, bouncer, minder, nursemaid, travelling companion, loyal friend, session musician, talent scout, producer and general dogsbody: step forward, Mr. Fixit, otherwise known as Mal Evans. http://onlynorthernsongs.blogspot.co...tle-giant.html http://blogcritics.org/music/article...er-and-gentle/ Connecticut Beatles celebration set for Beatles anniversary January 4, 2012 Milford, CT. -- January 4, 2012 -- On Friday night, February 10th, in celebration of The Beatles arrival in the U.S., Connecticut-based Beatles fan club Liverpool Productions will present their annual "Twist & Shout Dinner Dance Party" at Aldarios Restaurant, 240 Naugatuck Avenue in Milford. January 5, 2012 Brian Epstein Managed The Beatles To The Pantheon On Nov. 9, 1961, Brian Epstein left his Liverpool record store and walked a block to a seedy dive called the Cavern Club. The entertainment? A local band's lunchtime show. As he made his way into a cellar packed with grungy teenagers, this urbane 27-year-old looked conspicuously out of place in a pinstripe suit and dress shoes.Little did the crowd know that he was a step ahead of the times, like the four young musicians on the tiny stage — the Beatles. http://news.investors.com/Article/59...-visionary.htm Music News.com January 6, 2012 The Beatles Abbey Road album tops vinyl chart in 2011 The biggest selling album on vinyl in the USA in 2011 was The Beatles 'Abbey Road'.'Abbey Road' shifted 41,000 during the year beating new releases from Fleet Foxes, Adele, Wilco and Black Keys according to Nielsen SoundScan. http://www.music-news.com/shownews.a...&nItemID=47532 Popcrush January 3, 2012 Weird Al Performs the Beatles’ ‘Come Together’ With Steven Tyler + Alice Cooper As strange as it sounds, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Steven Tyler and Alice Cooper rang in the new year together in Hawaii with a cover of the Beatles‘ ‘Come Together.’ The unlikely trio came together at the Mala Wailea Restaurant in Maui “Your Weirdness,” Tyler said as Yankovic raced onto the stage. Weird Al did not break out his accordion, but he and Cooper added vocals to the song, which Tyler recorded years ago with Aerosmith. Cooper sang the second verse with the help of a lyric sheet, while a cheat sheet-free Yankovic summoned up his most fierce rock voice for verse number three.Cooper and Weird Al were on the same bill for New Year’s Eve, performing as part of a charity show with soul crooner Michael McDonald. The newly-engaged Tyler showed up as an unannounced guest for several tracks, including the unusual collaboration. http://popcrush.com/weird-al-beatles...-alice-cooper/ |

Liverpool Beat Mike Smith Passes On 50 years after Turning Down The Beatles Mike Smith sadly passed on in December 2011 almost fifty years after that momentous day when he turned down the Beatles and instead gave a recording contract to Brian Poole & The Tremoloes.Mike however, had some tremendous successes in his career, and I must say that having heard the Beatles recordings completed on 1st January 1962, I can understand why he might have made his decision. Whether it was the fact that The Beatles had a bad day or perhaps, as I suspect, it was a little too early in their career, is open to opinion. One thing is for sure, the band were an entirely different proposition just a few months later. . http://www.liverpoolbeat.com/Mike-Sm...e-Beatles.html Examiner January 7, 2012 LPO 'Live and Let Die' event was crowd pleaser If one could only go by the incessant applause and several encores at last night's "Live and Let Die" Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) event, the homage to Sir Paul McCartney and the Beatles was a resounding success. January 12, 2012 CD Review: Everything Changes by Julian Lennon JULIAN LENNON-“EVERYTHING CHANGES” I was pleased to learn that Julian Lennon had returned to the recording studio after an extended absence. I had always liked him personally and had purchased most of his previous releases. Reports are that he had retreated from music due to unpleasant experiences with the business aspects of recording.I recall my first listen to a Julian Lennon song in 1984. Putting on the headphones, I closed my eyes and felt that his father John had returned to earth. Did this enhance my interest in Julian’s music? Of course, but I liked it on its own merits as well. http://www.bloggernews.net/127564 |
