Bette Midler and The Rose/Stevie wardrobe resemblance

Was watching The Rose the other night, it had been a bit since I saw it last, and couldn't help but think of what Stevie and the rock and roll lifestyle must've been like. Bette in that movie in certain scenes, with all the wispy chiffon layers and sparkles, and ankle boots with a leotard top and handkerchief skirt onstage in scenes, just reminded me of Stevie during her Mirage and Rock A Little years, so wild onstage. I know I'm not the first person to ever think of this after watching the movie.

Yeah, the first time I saw The Rose as an adult all I could think was how much the movie actually seemed to be prophetic of Stevie's life vs being a thinly veiled reference to Janis Joplin. There are sooo many shades of Rock A Little Stevie throughout the film. I need to watch this one again, it's been about a decade since I've seen it!

from 77ish where she's getting out of a limo, and she looks
exactly like the first picture you posted. same hair, shades,
posture. pretty strange.

The wardrobe style is very Stevie at times. Also I came across a picture of Stevie from the RAL era that looked eerily similar to The Rose's last scene on stage.

And I could swear that there is a photo of Stevie on the wall in that garage scene. I have not watched the film in a while but I remember the first time I noticed it....I slow mo'd.

I think I "get it" now, the huge rockstar shades. I also like ones that Kyle Richards wears on Beverly Hills Housewives, and think they're cool. I think Stevie would look good in something like these too.

Just watched this for the first (and 2nd time with the director commentary) and it was unbelievable. Honestly I was so transfixed that I couldn't tear my eyes off the screen.

I actually had always thought this was more of a broadway/typical Bette film until I read this thread. Wow, was I wrong! Extremely moving, funny and all too real to many Janis and Stevie moments as you all mentioned as well. I wish my younger generation appreciated this type of film a bit more. Bette deserved EVERYTHING for this part. Blew me away.
