Default Does Stevie has a chance for Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award?

Recently it has been announced that Diana Ross will be given a special Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award for her contributions to record industry since the mid 60's. Because she's never been recipient of Grammy Award before (even with more than 10 nominations under her belt) I started wondering if Stevie has a chance to get this prestigous recognition in future. Just like Ross, Stevie has been labeled as icon, like Ross she's been part of one of the most important bands of rock and roll era, like Ross she achieved superstar status as a solo artist. To Stevie's credit, she's songwriter and her self-penned songs are hundred times better than anything that Diana has written by herself (anyone remembers dreadful "Work That Body" or sappy ballad nightmare "I Hear A Voice of Love"?). Stevie has been unstoppable force in music ever since she came on stage with Fleetwood Mac. Her songs "Dreams", "Landslide", "Edge of Seventeen" and "Rihannon" are considered to be landmarks in history of Rock. Plus, she showed that you can fight your demons, addictions and start your life anew translating your personal trubulations into tha language of music. Of course it is a bit of a letdown that Stevie's recent work has not been appreaciated by academy but I guess that maybe they're waiting for a right moment to give her very special award to show her importance in the music world. What do you think?

I thinks Her opinion of a lifetime achievement award would be ," I'm still alive and making a relevant contribution" , sort of like her opinion on a autobiography .

What I see lately with these organizations are treating Stevie or FM like a piece of sheet.I doubt it.Not in my lifetime. But you never know. They probably nominate junk artists of the 1990's or 2000's before they see her name. Its all politics.I wanted to add.A big fat chance.

This is a no brain-er...Stevie should eventually receive this award...BUT...What should happen and what will happen may be two different things...
Stevie is the proud owner of 2 of the most successful careers in music and she is a workhorse...
Starting with- Buckingham/Nicks,The "White Album",Rumours,Tusk,The "Live Album",Bella Donna,Mirage,Wild Heart,(Mirror Mirror?)Rock A Little,Tango In The Night,The Other Side Of The Mirror...11 albums 12 if you count "Mirror" and all the touring for 15 or so years...IMO the work she did in these years speaks for itself...Who has done or will do this? Few...Very Few...If you look at her entire career the number of records she's appeared on and the fact that she's written basicaly EVERY song she's ever recorded it's staggering...
Does anyone have an exact count on this? (#of records Stevie has appeared on & # of songs?)

Agreed Skip Even in the darkest places of your mind, this wouldn't happen In my opinion, I agree with Skip; The Grammy's are BS politics. The fact that The Dance was nominated was because they came back, NOT because the taping was freakin' epic. TISL was nominated...I still wonder why; is it because Stevie has been ignored far too often, in this world of Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj, Kesha crap?

If Stevie ever won an individual Grammy, I'd fall to the floor "The most beautiful things, keep passing [us] by"

I personally believe she has a better chance at winning an award from the songwriting hall of fame.

Then again, I feel that Stevie is too good for awards, as they are, as Skip stated, politics. I have friends who work in the 'business' & living here in L.A., you get exposed to it all and they say it's true too. Stevie knows she's good; 'very, very good' ...she has grown into a confidence that is not, thank God, an ego (though she is totally allowed to have an ego LOL) and those of us who love everything about her & everything she does and every word on a page, every melody, we are he ones who award her. Just as now, in her darkest hour, she hears us sing

She should get something.....I definitely think she should......but she won't. At least i think she has a very very very slim chance. My jaw will hit the floor if she does......in a good way

Default No Recognition for Stevie

I think Stevie gets ignored when alot of other less impressive people get awards and accolades.
And I have never understood it.

Recently I was up at 3:30am to catch the screening of a documentary about women in Rock & Roll.
Stupid me, I just assumed she would have a good sized segment. They did not even mention her name, showed about a 15 second flash of her with Fleetwood Mac and her name on the bottom of the screen between segments.
Pisses me off, I just don't get why she is so deliberately ignored.

That's because women generally are depreciated in the realm of Rock music, which for the most part is a man's world. Each time there's a woman who's strong, self-assured and has her own vision of Rock music, critics appear to criticise her for being pretentious. Women are not taken seriously as rock performers even if at times they are hundred times better than men. It seems that to be fully appreaciated in Rock music, women have to be like...well unlike women. That is why Janis Joplin was critics' darling in the 70's . She was less feminine than any future rocking woman but she won hearts of critics. Personally I believe that there will come a time, when Stevie's importance will be better recognized. C'mon if Diana got her award (and she was always considered to be bete noir of music industry) then it's about time when we see Stevie's name up there in Grammy's winners list

I agree. Even though so many women actually made Rock possible. What made me so angry in this though, was that this was a documentary ABOUT women's place and role in Rock history, made by women. I was deeply offended by they way they appeared to intentionally demean her, just throwing her name in like they did.

Where the Grammy s are concerned, they have lost a great deal of true meaning I think, because they celebrate more the splash and how big sales are. And to be honest are more invested in cookie cutter music. Not being in the award mix this year might not have been a bad thing for Stevie as she is still eligible next year. And maybe more cuts of IYD's will keep "popping"

All that said, I think the best acknowledgement the Grammy s could have given her this year they did. I think having her at the library that way was wonderful!!

It's really sad when women can't recognize importance of other women who made Rock and Roll a "co-educational" game. I read somewhere (it was an article written by woman) that Stevie cannot be taken seriously as a rock pioneer because she was commercial artist. I think it's stupid! It only goes to prove that too many ignorants write or make films about things they don't know at all. There's always some kind of underground movement and artists that pave the way but unless it gets to the core of mainstream it's just a snobbish fad. That is why it is equally important to hail all these performers who take underground music and take it to the masses. That's the reason why Elvis Presley is such an icon. All he did was taking Country, R&B music and making it more accessible for mainstream public. Does it make him less important to music history? Of course not. But he had additional advantage-he was a man

Did the program mention Christine McVie? There's a musician who started her career in the very thick of the British blues revival of the late 1960s, playing piano, writing songs, recording, & touring--almost completely surrounded by men. From there, she started writing good pop songs that, within a few years, took a second-tier album band to the top of the American charts, where it remained entrenched for a decade.

Christine's achievements in the music industry are astounding--nobody else did quite what she did--but where are her accolades? Who ever fetes her?

maybe b/c she doesn't really rock that much?

it seems like SN always wanted to rock - and consequently she presented herself as a groundbreaking woman who rocks, but whether or not one may like to face it - there are a number of groundbreaking women musicians in rock, and they rocked way harder than SN. i see non-recognition of that fact on these boards a lot, and as a woman i am extremely annoyed by it - and see that as putting other women down, frankly.

reading through some of the statements here, seems that everybody agrees stevie's strength is actually in mid-tempo ballads, not necessarily rock.

Stevie has no chance of the kind of recognition..so much of her history is entwined with FM...her solo career and FM catalouge are what makes Stevie a legend..if she hadnt had the FM outlet she would have been on par with the likes of Pat Benatar and Cyndi

But even Benatar and Lauper don't get that much of industry's recognition. Imagine, that Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted Madonna before them. Madonna as a rock and roll artist? Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't remember anything by Madonna that could be defined as rock music. "Like a Virgin", "Like a Prayer", "Papa Don't Preach", "Frozen"? As much as I appreaciate Madonna and these songs I can't name her Rock artist. Who will be next? Celine Dion?
