Thumbs up 7/3/03 Dallas review

"The Good, The Bad, The Ugly & The Weird"

Well, I finally made it home (Another 600 mile roundtrip drive) from round #2 of seeing Fleetwood Mac this week, And all I can say is that without a doubt Lindsey is 1 HELL of a guitarist!!!

Both nights I saw FM this week Lindsey seemed to be on a mission to entertain the crowd and he did successfully both times, But more-so in Oklahoma City.

Now on to my review:

"The Good"-
#1-The AAC is a great arena to see a concert in. I found it to be a better venue than the Ford Center in OKC for several reasons that would lead to a long explanation, So I won't be specific.

"The Mac is Back!"-I have to agree with Mick's final exclamation after the show last nite. The performance in Dallas seemed as energetic as the show in OKC. The band sounded great and Lindsey, ONCE AGAIN, Stole the show with "I'm So Afraid" & "Come"...I wonder if the Ledge's own wondergirl9847 has recovered yet? (Have ya Christy??)

"Eyes Of The World"-Yet again, probably one of the surprises of the set. I enjoy the new drum tag at the beginning of the song which makes it a harder rocking version than the usual "Mirage" version.

"Come"-Lindsey rules!! And it is great to watch him play the living hell outta guitar, He seems to be enjoying it too.

"The Bad"-
#1-Excluding the people who sat in the floor seats...The Dallas crowd was the most DEAD energy-wise crowd I have seen at a concert in 13 years, (The last was the crowd in Tulsa, OK for Queensryche). I have always heard Dallas audiences for Fleetwood Mac shows were lively and last night's audience disproved that statement.

Each time the Mac performed a new song (ie-"Come"..The people who left their seats MISSED "IT"!!! And those who stayed know what I mean by "It", Because Linds' was into "It" last night!!!) from "Say You Will" I saw a "mass exodus" of people to either use the restroom or to buy beer or when they played a classic (ie-"Gypsy") the audience's response wasnt as energetic. There were even empty seats in the back of the arena before the start of the first encore of songs.

I think the Dallas audience has become too spoiled from having Fleetwood Mac play at their venues for every tour, Maybe if Fleetwood Mac SKIPPED Dallas next time they (The Dallas crowd) would appreciate the effort Lindsey, Stevie, John & Mick gave...I know I appreciated last night as much as on Tuesday night!!!! (And for the record when comparing the crowd reactions for both the shows this week, the OKC crowd was on "FIRE" whereas Dallas seemed to have slipped into a "Coma" and is "braindead"!)

#2-The setlist was the same as usual and if I had to say the show cold use a "lil' seasoning" to spice it up (ie-add "Destiny Rules" back to the setlist, OK?)

#3-The sound at the AAC needs to be louder. All night long I could hear people around me talking (See below for some specifics) in a normal tone of voice because the acoustics deaden the sound a bit...Possibly a bit too much!!!

"The Ugly & The Weird"-
Random comments from a few "fans" who sat near me through the night...I was in section 211 Row H

"Is Stevie & Lindsey still having a thing going?"

"What is the significance of that "pose"? (Referring to Stevie at the
end of "Gold Dust Woman")

"I wonder how much coke Mick is on?"(Drum solo)

"Stevie looks damn hot...For a 55 year old!"

"Is she wearing a thong"?

"Black Widow" (The drunk mullet-head sitting directly in front of me...On several HUNDRED occassions!)

And the winner of the bunch is (Insert Drum-roll please...)

"BRI-annon" (The "clueless to the song title" BLONDE female winner of the front row tickets for the show when asked to "sing like Stevie Nicks" during 92.5 KZPS's "Shelby says" contest...Well anyways, At least she didnt make the "Bahh" sound the 2nd place (Who won 2nd row seats) winner made when asked to do the same!)

I enjoyed meeting fellow "Ledgies" wondergirl & seteca at the Hard Rock Cafe (I agree with ya Christy...Where is ANY MENTION of Fleetwood Mac at in the HRC?), But I felt ill afterwards and skipped the "Ledgie" get-together and headed on to AAC where I was selected for the radio contest...Wanna guess who ALMOST WON the thing before "HE" really started getting sick/tired/exhausted and lost his concentration and finished in 3rd?

Overall I give the Mac 5 stars and the crowd 3 stars, Which average out to 4...

I haven't been able to get on this board since Tuesday morning, and now that I'm here, I have to be brief, as I'm due somewhere tonight. (I'll add more later if I can.) I had a 4+ hour drive each way to Dallas. Arrived on Wednesday & just got back Friday afternoon.
Dallas concert was good. Lindsey's songs were better than in Philly, Stevie's were better in Philly (but still great).
The band stayed at my hotel, but Stevie & Lindsey switched because Stevie's back was bothering her so she couldn't take the stairs in the suites. I'm not sure why Lindsey moved.
Everybody else stayed at my hotel, supposedly. There were sightings of Mindy, Sharon, and Lori, and I saw Mick in the lobby. I said nothing to him (I'm a bitter old man, you see), though he looked at me a couple of times, as I was wearing a Mac cap from the Dance tour.
Livia & I spoke with somebody at the pool, but I'll let her fill you guys in if she wants.
I got to meet Strandinthewind, Shackinup, Wondergirl, Cliffdweller, Livia, Seteca, Gldstwmn, and Iceprincess. Did I forget anyone? (Sorry I missed you, Estranged. Weren't you gonna meet us?) Several of us rode to the venue together & hung out before & after the show.
Gldstwmn moved two seats down next to me on the floor so a woman on crutches could be on the aisle. It was great having a fellow fanatic to sit near, & we sat for about 90 seconds for the whole show. Lindsey looked at us a few times (my seat was ten rows from his spot exactly) & imitated Gldstwmn's hand gesturing to me during one song, and Stevie smiled at us during Beautiful Child, as we were some of the few standing for that one.
Come to think of it, the woman who sat next to Gldstwmn was a Ledgie, but I forget the name.
My apologies to Strand & Wondergirl, who suffered the brunt of my sick sense of humor. When Strand met up with us again after he was working out (as I SHOULD have been doing, but didn't), I said "You'll never guess who I met on the elevator! She signed my chest, & I'm on my way to get it tattooed!" Of course, he only bought the story for half a second.
When I met Christy, I said "You heard that Lindsey is sick, and he won't be on tonight?" Her draw dropped, and once I told her I was kidding, for a moment I thought she might kill me, but she laughed.
BTW, the bartenders complained more than once that the band didn't hang out at all this time the way they did in '97.
I bought the blue FM polo shirt that wasn't available at Philly & I really like it ($35). Gldstwmn got the pink tee, & Shackinup got the Red Rover one.
WEll, gotta go soon. I leave for Boston on Sunday & might not have internet access after that until next weekend. I'll try to get on again before I leave.
(And yes, this is brief for me.)

- Jake

Do tell (living vicariously, remember?? ) Have a good trip to Baaahston, Jake! Off to debate on whether or not I really want to go see fireworks

It wasnt a question contest but a large scale version of "Simon Says" (With the stations dj "Shelby") called "Shelby Says" with about 20 people. The contest happened at the "South Entrance" side of the AAC in the sunlight, And that made me feel worse than I already was feeling, (I got very sick after eating at the Hard Rock Cafe, That's why I didnt meet up with my fellow Ledgies and I still feel bad about that plus I'm still ill =( today...Wasnt a fun trip driving back to Oklahoma), So I had a "braincramp" for a sec and was eliminated...

No, I'm not kicking myself because I already had 16th row in OKC, And if I would have won (Or finished second since 2nd place received 2nd row seats) gave away the extra ticket to some Ledgie that I have already met.

I had such a GREAT!!! (think Tony the Tiger! ) time.

It was so good to meet all the Ledgies and of course to party with Livia again. I am always so amazed to meet people based solely on their personality in type only.

I got to the hotel in Dallas at around noon, had lunch, worked out for two and one-half hours (I need to lose that last 20-30 pounds ), and then joined darklinensuit (this is when he played the joke on me ) and Livia at the pool. I then got dressed and went to the bar downstairs at about 4:00. I got a cosmo and literally almost knocked Mick over walking outside with it. Then, I saw Sharon and wished her well ("break a leg") for the concert. I also chatted with Taiku (sp.?) for awhile. What a nice guy. Then, I went upstairs and changed into my long pants for the concert and headed to the bar yet again On the way upstairs I chatted with Mick for a second and told him to have a great time at the concert because I was certain I would.

It was so great to have about six or seven ledgies in the bar partying before the concert! I had a BLAST!!!

The concert was great. I sat next to fun people and had a blast. Highlights for me were

Eyes of the World (SN just rocks on this)

GDW (when she did the pose at the end the large and sensibly 9sp.?) dressed girl next to me goes "She looks like she's taking a sh^T! I know its gross but it was hysterical at the time because she was squatting!

Stand Back (You twirl baby)

ISA (always amazing)

SS (she yelled a little and the whole crowd seemed to be singing along - she changed the ending "You Could be my . . . " to a staggered almost arpegio esq (sp.?) type thing that totally worked)

Beautiful Child (I just had to cry a river on this one and she changed the ending to a little softer approach with seemingly one note)

After the concert, I hooked with the same ledgies; then, awhile later, I saw the limos leave. When I got back to the hotel I realized that perhaps I had been, as we say in the South, "overserved" and boycotted the bar, proceeded directly to my room, ordered room service, and watched Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers for like the 25th time!!!!

What a great time I had with everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also - the black boots appeared before GYOW and stayed on until the end!!!!!!

No - there was no LB sighting dam&it! I must say though that Sharon really is ageless and just so incredibly nice. Although I just briefly chatted with her about the concert, I must say I think she is a beautiful woman both inside and out.

You know, if I had plowed into Mich and HE had spilled my $10.00 cosmo - I would have had to have insisted on backstage pasess for me and all of my friends for all of the remaining concerts!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dammit! I was hopin' for a little LB action for ya'll. So let me get this straight; he switched hotels and so did Stevie or is it that he switched rooms with Stevie?? I'm confused but it's verrry interesting, wouldn't you agree? Perhaps this is a topic for ANOTHER board Yea man, had Mick spilled MY ten dollar cosmo, i'd be like, you need to hook it up now man. I've got friends all over the country and you've got passes

The people at the hotel told me Stevie changed hotels because the stairs in her two story suite hurt her hip. I am unsure if LB was ever there and/or whether he changed hotels. I think they wanted to be alone and foolish together - but there I go again . . .

Strand, you should have joined us at the bar afterwards. There was a guitarist who looked like Greg Louganis singing some bad songs in a so-so way, or singing some so-so songs in a bad way, and a few people danced. We ordered a bunch of the weirdest/tiniest/overpriced food you can imagine. (My favorite was what we dubbed the "fish loaf.") AND I had a drink, which is special, since I have maybe three or four drinks per year. (I slept great for a change.) We closed the place.

Wow, I cannot believe I forgot to mention Lindsey's weird behavior from Tusk on! He didn't tusk anyone (Stevie mouthed "Don't!") but he chased John & then Stevie, grabbed John, & sarted performing the can-can. He looked like a peasant from the Safety Dance video. Gldstwmn & I were ROTFL. A little later he did the dance again for another song & Stevie had this omigod look on her face. He looked happy as can be.
Whatever these moves were, he didn't do them in Philly.
During yet another song I was looking at Stevie when Gldstwmn nudged me & said "Is Lindsey dead or something?" I looked at him & he was bent at the waist with his upper body just hanging, motionless.
He seemed better for the later songs.

The AA Center was pretty good, but it looks like the Love Boat when you first walk in (three or four white decks with railings). I'll look for Stevie in the Acapulco Lounge if you'll check the Lido Deck. (More proof that I'm old, but hey, you are, too, if you get these references .)

Another story, we got trapped in a garage an hour before the show, literally. Don't even ask how we got out.

Marissa, Lindsey & Stevie both switched to a different hotel. I'm not clear on why he switched.

Again, Beautiful Child is perfect. Also, I love the drums towards the end of Silver Springs. Much faster, louder, and angrier than The Dance version.

Stevie did six spins for SB, but much more slowly than in Philly. Obviously this is because of her back situation. She did this little twisty wind-up & sucked in some air before the first spin, like she was thinking, This is gonna hurt, but I've got to do it for the fans.

(And Marissa, I went out to dinner tonight but passed on the fireworks my friends were going to. No way could fireworks compare to last night!)

Now there you go again
you say you want some Lindsey
You switch hotel rooms to get down
It's only right that you should do what your feelin'
Just watch your hip or that smile might turn to frown..LMAO

The hip makes sense, but I heard from hotel people it was her back this time. Who knows. Either way, I volunteered for physical therapy.

yea - people apparently interchange back and hip. I have lower back pain that can sometimes accurately be called hip pain. In any event it all is a pain the a$$ ( ) and I hope SN feels better cause I pretty much know what she is going through.

Sorry I missed the cocktail and the singer in the bar, but it was just about all I could do to pour my listing self into the elevator and try and not pass out before it got to the second floor
