Default Favorite Holiday tunes. please list...

HoHoHo little kiddie's.With the Stevie/FM Christmas threads are going on here.I was thinking of my other favorite holiday tunes and favorite artists doing them. Now around in the State's and other countries have radio stations playing holiday music 24/7 non-stop until December 26th.I will start the list with some of my favorite tunes and artists doing them.Plus videos too,They are 100s of them.but heres some to get started with.I'll add more as time goes by.

Stevie Nicks-Silent Night This is my all time fave and it makes me cry.

Arthur Fiedler and the boston Pop's- Sleigh Ride any artist version

Mannheim Steamroller - Deck The Halls. Love all of their xmas tunes.

Gosh Groban-Oh Holy Night what a voice he has.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra - Christmas Canon light version They are alittle to edgy to me but this tune sticks out and sold me.

.
The Carpenters all of their holiday works.

Bing Crosby - White Christmas

Gene Autry- Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer I got the original 78 rpm somewhere

Band Aid " Do They Know It's Christmas" 1984 version Does anybody know why Stevie never got invited for this recording. Or she was invited .What happen. I like the 1989 version .but the 2004 version was not that great due to the artist selection.

The Eagles-Please Come Home for Christmas This is a classic.

The Judds- Christmas Time With The Judds cd

This video I think its from the same tv special as Stevie's Silent Night.

Danny Davis and the Nashville Brass -Winter Wonderland Country/bluegrass

I'll add more later.

Every year I listen to the same Christmas albums and these are:

1. Amy Grant-Home For Christmas (I think her voice is perfect for these Christmas tunes)
2. Diana Ross-A Very Special Season (classic diva sings classic Christmas songs and does it in a very elegant manner)
3. Gloria Estefan-Christmas Through Your Eyes (have you heard a latin/big band rendition of "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow"? Great album)
4. Cyndi Lauper-Merry Christmas... Have a Nice Life (it's such a funny Christmas album, especially "Christmas Conga" and "Minnie & Santa", let me cite a bit: "bonga, bonga, bonga, do the christmas conga...")

  1. David Bowie And Bing Crosby - Little Drummer Boy
  2. Jethro Tull -Ring Out Solstice Bells
  3. Stevie Nicks- Silent Night
  4. Jona Lewie - Stop The Cavalry
  5. The Pogues - Fairytale Of New York
  6. Elvis Presley - Blue Christmas
  7. Greg Lake - I Believe In Father Christmas
  8. David Essex - A Winter's Tale
  9. Sarah McLachlan - Oh Little Town Of Bethlehem
  10. Sarah McLachlan - I'll Be Home For Christmas
  11. Sarah McLachlan - Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
  12. John Lennon - Happy Xmas (War Is Over)
  13. The Pretenders - 2000 Miles
  14. Dean Martin - Winter Wonderland
  15. Bobby Helms - Jingle Bell Rock
  16. Perry Como - It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas
  17. Most Christmas Carols sung by professional Choirs, particularly Kings College, Cambridge
  18. Mike Oldfield - In Dulci Jubilo
  19. Joni Mitchell - River (It mentions Christmas, so it's a Christmas song )
  20. Elton John - Step Into Christmas
  21. Beach Boys - Little Saint Nick
  22. Shakin' Stevens - Merry Christmas Everyone
  23. Louis Armstrong - Zat You, Santa Clause?

One song I absolutely cannot bloody stand is "When A Child Is Born" by Johnny Mathis. It is a song that fills me with so much hate that I literally want to burn things.Schmalzy, overly honied, diabetes inducing Bullplop.

I'll be honest, any other time of the year, I absolutely loathe the song with a passion, but for the two weeks before Christmas, Mariah Carey's version of All I Want For Christmas Is You is like heaven.

Eagles- Please Come Home For Christmas. My band does it, and people love it. We've even had to repeat it in January, because people like it that much.

Great choices so far. Oh Stevie and her Silent Night chokes me up too. I also love Celine Dion's O Holy Night

And this one by The Waitresses has really grown on me over the years:

And Father Christmas by The Kinks:

Not a Christmas song, but boy does it ever tug at my heartstrings. I really do cry over this song:

That's probably my favorite "modern" Christmas song.

I do too. Martina McBride's version is very good too, but nothing beats Celine's in my book.

I love Happy Xmas too - Melissa Etheridge has an awesome live version that is the only other version I like besides the original.

I also like Bruce's Merry Christmas Baby.

My fave of the past few years is Barenaked Ladies w/Sarah McLachlan "God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen/We Three Kings." Fantastic.

Many of the ones already mentioned, especially Crosby & Bowie's "Peace on Earth," and "Happy Xmas." I don't care that much for Stevie's "Silent Night."

Parade of the Wooden Soldiers - Harry Connick, Jr.
Merry Christmas Darling - The Carpenters
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas - Judy Garland
Do You Hear What I Hear? - Whitney Houston
Most of the classics by Sinatra and especially Dean Martin
