Mirage To Finally Be REMASTERED In 2011

You can create a rather short Mirage and Tango remaster playlist from 2002's Very Best Of complilation. After doing a very brief sound comparison between the original CDs and the Very Best Of, the remastered tracks on the VBO sounds so much better remastered

Tango In The Night
Little Lies
Seven Wonders
Everywhere
Family Man

Seems that the VBO remastering was carried out by Bill Inglot and Dan Hersch and surprise surprise these chaps also did the remasters of The White Album, Rumours and Tusk.

What are the odds that all the Rumours era albums were remastered back in 2002 for the Very Best Of including Tango and Mirage and are sitting in a storage cupboard somewhere gathering dust, probably next to the Tusk Tour Documentary and Mirage In Concert masters!

I don't understand the thinking that factoring sales figures/potential should determine the viablity of remastering and releasing Fleetwood Mac albums.

It shouldn't be a question. Is anyone aware of the current trend of vintage groups who are mining their back cataglogs and releasing remasters with bonus discs? A lot of them are --Pink Floyd, REM, U2, Elvis Costello, Rolling Stones etc...the list goes on...and it's being done with fair cohesiveness and quality.

For fans it's a bonus to get the unreleased/bonus stuff. From a marketing standpoint, it's a brilliant tactic to resell a product to consumers who have essentially already bought the product in it's initial form.

Some really obscure stuff also gets re-released, in limited runs. The intent isn't necessarily for huge profits, but to serve a unique customer base.
Fleetwood Mac does not have a unique customer base -- they are a huge internationally established band, with a large, dynamic fanbase.

There is no good reason why their entire catalog (including the five-year era prior to Lindsey and Stevie) should not be treated with respect. Every album should get at least the treatment that Fleetwood Mac, Rumours and Tusk have gotten.

Significant chart success for older work is not a feasible expectation. Live, Mirage and Tango, without question, should be revisited, remastered and released. Disregard speculating on sales stats -- the intergrity of a legendary band's work, and the respect of their fans is what matters most.

At the end (so to speak) of the CD age we are
getting some impressive releases. I have the
Pink Floyd DSOTM set, and I'm really
blown away by the sound quality. Same goes
for The Complete Elvis Presley Masters 30
CD box set. Over 35 hours of pristine sounding
music.

If they would remaster the whole Fleetwood
Mac back catalogue...

If that's true, then it's a good news. Imagine "Can't Go Back" or "Love In Store" in all their remastered glory! I really like this album, even though it pales a bit when compared to groundbreaking "Tusk!" or mega-platinum, poppy "Tango In The Night". It always felt too short, so hearing that there will be bonus material makes me happy.

I agree, the old CD release sucks so I'm more than enthusiastic about a remastered. Plus the bonus materials...

but the year is endind and I've not found any official announcement.

I would highly suspect, that a big reason, NOW, is that Chris had two of the big hits, on both Mirage and Tango, and....well....they can no longer play the Chris hits......If they can't perform Hold Me, Love In Store, Little Lies, and Everywhere, the re-releases can't be backed by any sort of tour support...

Much like the Bob Welch years, they're now pretending that FM's biggest hit maker, didn't exist. Good luck with that!!!

Interesting perspective. But an album is a much different entity than a live show.

Stevie and Lindsey are pulling off shows without Christine, and moving on. in the tradition of all varied incarnations of Fleetwood Mac. How does releasing previous Fleetwood Mac records have any impact on that? Fleetwood Mac, Rumours, and Tusk were all re-released after Christine left. There were no tours to promote them. Generally, bands don't tour to promote the re-re-release of a previous work.

And thank god they don't perform those songs because they never translated well to the stage. Hold Me and Little Lies owe much of their success as radio hits to layers of processed vocals and synthetically-produced harmonies. Attempts to recreate those songs live resulted in sonic murk, which is why they were absent from The Dance set list. Over-processing Christine McVie's voice is a crime against nature, in my book anyway.

Yep. I will say that I prefer live versions of "Everywhere" to the studio recording, but "Hold Me" and "Little Lies"......studio only!

So it looks like they were remastered by Rhino in 2011, they just haven't been released on CD.

Yes, I recently purchased Mirage and Tango in the Night (192kHz/24bit versions) from HDTracks and the difference from the original CD's (Especially Mirage) is astounding.

Very pleased with both, in fact I was so impressed that I went against my own self imposed rule and re-bought Rumours and Tusk (for like the 40th time ) in HD as well, so much nicer then the remastered 2 CD sets, very organic natural sound.

I really recommend them over the existing CD versions. Very nice.
