Anaheim fans came to party last night. DavidMN and I led the stage rush early on from our FRONT ROW seats and from them on it was CRAZY! Lindsey loved it. No one sat down for the rest of the night and we were ten deep at the stage. AMAZING! DavidMn said it was the craziest show since Chicago! We got sweated-over twice, a big Hi from Brett and David even got a shout out from Lindsey as he did his Edge-Walk. Have fun in Turlock tonight David!

Anyway, many thanks to the two fans who were a no-show Front Row Center! DavidMn and I ran into each other before the show and he noticed the two empty seats in the front row and, although we were not sitting together, we decided that if those two front row center seats were not filled by the time the band took the stage, we'd upgrade ourselves. Long story short they didn't show up and we got the seats-as planned. Hard to believe I had front row center for all three L.A. shows. I told DavidMn that was because God loved us. We slid down the Karma slide last night that's for sure. I was totally shocked we got those seats as I'm sure everyone was eying them. Thank you God!

We both looked for you McTrouble before the show but we couldn't find you (second row far left) and I was surprised to learn you were probably standing quite near us at the stage. Glad you had a great time too! And, thank God there were no photogs blocking the stage. Whoever they were they were very inconspicuous.

Well, last night was a perfect end to a perfect five day three show run for me. Got plenty of eye contact last night-again. It's six a.m. and I'm still on fire. Have to end now as I have to go to work. And, Lindsey "See you next time, too."

OK - so I was right at the stage and I GOT QUITE A BIT OF HIS SWEAT!!! Didn't manage to touch flesh though, only his jeans and shoes. But I'm very happy with the sweat!

Loads of interaction with Brett and towards end of show he came and gave me his pick!!!!!!! Result!!!!!!

Never going to sleep tonight at all!!!

By the way, did I say the show was AWESOME??????

Worth every one of the almost 6000 miles I had to fly to see him.

Roll on Manchester and then M&G in Leeds.

Do I sound a little hyper???
I'm so totally thrilled to know you enjoyed the show!!!!!!
Right at the stage!!.....I'm sure you were in Lindsey heaven!!!

What a great show! First off, I HAVE to send out a HUGE thanks to my March 22nd bud DavidMN, who with incredible generosity of heart, sprung for my ticket to the show at the last minute (we were just going to meet up before the show, just to finally meet in person). Of course, with my ticket being purchased at the last minute, I was in the next to last row, which STILL wasn't all that far away from the stage, but I was directly behind the soundboard, which is USUALLY where I make every effort to sit at concerts anyway. Got to chat with Cubby & Richard (the sound engineers) throughout the show, really nice guys. The sound guys are usually the unsung heroes of every concert and only get the blame if something goes wrong. Kudos to them for the incredible sound at last night's show. (I got to "hear what they heard"...the sound couldn't have been better!!!) Being that my college course of study was "Record & Live Sound Engineering", I got to "talk shop" with them and was able to get them to let me in on some inside stuff. Such as, neither of them had any good things to say about the Grove's house sound system, but since they had embellished it with Lindsey's traveling sound system, obviously improved the sound quality immensely.

Being seated where I was, I not only interacted with the sound guys, but also the three "official" photographers who were instructed that they could only photograph from behind the soundboard, as well. So that's why those down front didn't have to butt heads with photographers in the pit.

Other than DavidMN, I also ran into Liam McConville...good to see him again. With the plethora of Ledgies at the show, I'm sorry I didn't get to meet more of y'all. Another time, another concert, I'm sure.

Ok, I know I'm still on a few people's "hit list" after my scathing initial review of Seeds We Sow, just want to say that seeing him play a few tunes from that live, I have a whole new appreciation for the album as a whole now.

Still, the two tunes from Out Of The Cradle, "All My Sorrows" & "Turn It On" were my favorite tunes in the set...not ONLY because of my OotC love, but the slight twist on the arrangements were really cool to see & hear. OH, and it was an incendiary version of "Second Hand News" as well (ok, a show of hands from those down front...who played bass on that? If Brett & Neal were playing acoustic guitars & Lindsey his Turner Model 1, Walfredo obviously on drums...where was that bass part coming from? I know, but I'm not telling!!!!)

Again, a giant THANK YOU to DavidMN and his generosity in giving me the opportunity to experience Lindsey's show!

see, that would be my dream show to see as the last one on this tour / this leg. CT was close to it, but this is the first time i've heard everybody staying at the stage starting already from SHN... although i'd also want to just listen / experience another show without going to the stage too.

Glad you liked the show. That's interesting that Lindsey's traveling sound system is good enough to improve a bad one. He's been at The Grove before, so he knows what it's like there. Too bad he couldn't have patched up the sound system at the Rococo Theater in Lincoln, Nebraska, that time he canceled.

Hmm. You've got me wondering about the bass. I have to assume he's piping in sounds like he's done for Tusk -- or he's kidnapped John McVie and has him locked in a closet somewhere.

Wow, another great Lindsey show last night! Up to the stage earlier than at the Royce Hall show my friend and I were at and loving every second of it, as was Lindsey. I am getting more and more excited for the Saban DVD/CD release because I think the Seeds We Sow songs so great live. I'm ready to go back to another LB show next time the Buck stops here!

Lindsey Buckingham shines in return to Anaheim

October 18th, 2011, 12:45 pm · · posted by ROBERT KINSLER, FOR THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

It’s been an exciting year for fans of live classic rock. In just the past six months or so, John Fogerty, the Zombies, Steely Dan, Paul Rodgers and even the Monkees have all delivered fantastic age-defying concerts throughout Southern California.

Add Lindsey Buckingham’s 95-minute set Monday night at City National Grove of Anaheim to the list. Performing both alone on acoustic guitar as well as with a terrific three-man band, the singer-songwriter and guitar virtuoso – who appeared at the venue just days after Stevie Nicks sold it out – served up a mix of Fleetwood Mac classics, solo hits and new material that showcased how (like Neil Young) he is the rare 60-something who continues to challenge himself artistically while simultaneously creating some of the best work of his long career.

The Hall of Famer, who recently turned 62, is on tour in support of his September release Seeds We Sow, an outstanding 11-song disc that has deservedly garnered rave reviews. Many of the highlights of his 19-song set in O.C. came from that new album, including the experimental rocker “In Our Own Time,” the beautiful “Illumination” with its lush vocal harmonies, and a rousing take on “That’s the Way That Love Goes.”
Buckingham began the night walking out on the big stage alone, opening the show with an energetic “Shut Us Down,” which, like many of his songs, doesn’t fit neatly into a single style. While that song boasted a country-meets-blues vibe, other selections fused folk-rock, instrumental fingerstyle guitar work, melodic pop-rock and even jazz into his foundation.

In fact, Buckingham’s first five songs, including a sparse reworking of his solemn solo hit “Trouble,” were all delivered solo. From there he tackled his first Fleetwood Mac track of the night, “Never Going Back Again,” his fretwork and vocals gaining power as he ended the song with a flourish.

One of the most remarkable things about the performance was how easily Buckingham and his band shifted through various sounds and eras without a loss of momentum or focus. An early highlight of his wide-ranging set list included the propulsive folk-rocker “Under the Skin,” with Buckingham, Neale Heywood and Brett Tuggle all strumming their guitars while drummer Wilfredo Reyes Jr. kept the rhythm moving with skilled backbeat.

Mac fans were fully rewarded with several of the band’s best songs, including Buckingham’s “Go Your Own Way” and “Second Hand News” (both off 1977’s Rumours) and the title cut from 1979’s Tusk. “Go Your Own Way” not only sounded great but was one of many times that Buckingham’s unique talents as a guitarist shined; the lengthy solo at the end of the song delighted the crowd, on their feet and moving with the music.

Further enhancing the performance was his low-key but heartfelt introductions to much of his material.

“This is why we do this: people like you,” Buckingham said, acknowledging the loud crowd response after his rendition of “Tusk.” He thanked the audience for supporting him to be in the unique position of being allowed to work in two worlds, his so-called “big machine” (Fleetwood Mac) and his “little machine” (his solo career).

The far-too-fast night ended with Buckingham coming full circle, performing alone again, this time delivering the powerful title track from Seeds We Sow with all the depth and nuance he applies to his best-known hits. “I had a dream that you reached for me in the night,” he sang. “Touched me soft and slow / Everything was wrong but everything was right / Oh, the seeds we sow.”

Yeah, the sound of those three acoustic guitars on "Under The Skin" was spine-tingling. Also, among my fave songs of the night. Liked it much better live than the studio version.

It's funny but although I thought Stars was one of the best of the new songs at the Saban, now it's one of my least favorites live. It might be psychological. Now that I know that Lindsey didn't write it (although he added enough to it to be a valid co-writer), maybe I am subconsciously biased against it.

I still think it's lovely. I just like IOOT, TTWLG, End of Time and Illumination more.

See, I've thought this all along about other songs. I don't think those guys are making all those sounds - even back up vocals....
