Yeah, I never knew Stevie was a Joni fan! I've just been getting into Joni stuff lately, and it's quite interesting...

I really WANTED to love this video, "Moonlight" being my favorite song on the new record. But I agree with most of you...there's just TOO MUCH going on, Dave's silly dancing ruins the flow and mood, and several of the "actors" have as much enthusiasm as a box of hair!

I DID like all the night time scenes in the forest, though...and all the stuff with Stevie and the owl. Plus I thought the individual shots of the "actors" lip syncing the word "strange" toward the end was a nice touch.

Just my 2 cents.

Default Ok...

After watching this video for about the 10th time, it is starting to grow on me. It is still kind of discombobulated (spelling?) to me, especially the parts with Dave Stewart on the stage but I think it is decent. I just wish it told more of a story than all these flashes of people walking and standing around. Oh well...more power to Stevie for putting herself out there.

I like that there are people everywhere, looks like a secret creepy party, i get the "straaaaange" vibe from it.
However, i think Stevie is a bit ridiculous in this video (and in the Secret Love vid too). Her gesture has become a problem for me. I'd rather not see her in this video at all, just those random people. That would be even more straaange. Same goes for Dave Stewart. I prefer Stevie when she is natural, in the Cheaper than free video, or FWIW.
On a positive side, this vid made me remember how much i loved the song, and the whole album, actually, and now i'm listening to IYD on repeat. This is definitely one of the best things she's done in her career.

Oh and i love the moment when the guy with the moustache (is he supposed to be Poe?) closes the book, and the little girl starts singing "straaange". Totally weird.

Really? I started checking her out because I've read both LB and Stevie list her as influences. The two main albums I remember them mentioning are Blue and Court and Spark. I believe Stevie said she tripped on acid with Keith Olsen to Court and Spark...

Here are some great little Joni Mitchell blurbs:

"I was over at [Fleetwood Mac producer Keith Olson’s] house, and he had these great speakers that were as tall as me, and Joni’s record had just come out, and I put it on. He went away, it was just me, and I listened to this record for three days. She was able to stuff so many words into one sentence and not have them sound crowded. She was talking about what it was like to be very famous and to be a woman living in a man’s world. She had been in the world of fame much longer than me, and she had gone out with every famous rock ’n’ roll star that there was. And she was such an amazing guitarist that they all respected her. That was unheard of. She was in the boys’ club. She talked about what I saw coming. Even though Buckingham Nicks had tanked, I knew that we were going to be very famous, very rich, and that this fame thing was going to overwhelm us. So when I listened to this record, it was like a great old premonition just being laid out in front of me. There is a song on it called “The Same Situation,” and that song just would kill me when I’d hear it. Because I knew it was coming."

"One time I did acid when Joni Mitchell’s record Court And Spark came out. I was with my producer at his house, with a set of speakers that were taller than the fireplace, and I was in a safe place and I sat there on the floor and listened to that record and that was a pretty dynamic experience but it didn’t erase the fact that the other two times were not. So I never did it again."

***

"I hope that my music makes people feel the way I used to feel when I went home with a record that I loved," Nicks says. "My favorite example of that is Joni Mitchell's 'Court and Spark.' I heard that record as I was joining Fleetwood Mac, so for me, it was the beginning of Fleetwood Mac. For days, I just lay on the floor and sang along with her and tried to learn how she phrases and how she gets all those words into one sentence, and I got such joy from that. When I hear one of those songs today, I just have to sit down, because I'm still so knocked out. That's how I hope my music affects people."

^^I also remember reading an old Buckingham Nicks concert review that mentioned that they did a cover of "Raised on Robbery," which I would literally DIE if I heard.

Also, a few years ago, when asked about Stevie's pre-show ritual, she mentioned that she always played a mix "tape" that included current songs as well as classics. "Blonde in the Bleachers" was on that tape.

Dave's beard is scruffy. The last thing I want to see is repeated close ups of it, especially not when he's prostrate.

Wow about the BN info! Obviously, I'm such a BN freak I would also die for any new boots, pics, etc...

Played the new video, as well as some oldies like Stand Back and mixed in some newer videos from other big selling artists and played the burned disc on all the monitors in my store all weekend long. LOL My employee's didn't exactly love me forcing them to listen to Stevie but it was all worth it; we had eight copies of In Your Dreams laying around when I first started playing it, sold all eight by the end of the weekend and even had to special order a few for two customers after we were sold out. My plan was a success. lol You're welcome, Stevie.

You are AWESOME! That is so cool. Proves that if you can just get people to hear Mama, they will love her.
