Default Roll-CAll for Royce Hall-Los Angeles-Only A Week Away!

Hard to believe but the show is now only seven days away! It'll be the first of three L.A. area shows that I'm going to.

So who else from the forum will be at Royce Hall?

I may or may not be going to that show too. Will be checking with the Grove today to see what comparable seat they will give me for my Tier 1 Row E seat which is now, according to the new seating chart, in Tier 2 which I do not want.

Thank God I have front row center for both Royce Hall and McCallum Theater or I'd be a tad upset.

BTW Hope you booked the Ayres Hotel. You can literally walk to the Grove and it's a nice hotel. I stayed there a couple of years ago for a Lindsey show at the Grove and I did literally walk to the venue.

Well, I'll certainly still be going whatever the seat - after having flown especially 6000 miles to see the gorgeous one!!!

Booked into the Staybridge Suites for 7 nights - it's walkable to everywhere including The Grove!

ONE MORE DAY

We're having a heat wave and tomorrow is going to be 100 degrees. Wonder if Lindsey will leave the leather jacket at home tomorrow night? We'll see.

Finally saw Mr. Buckingham this tour and very distressed that it took so long. I wish the opening night for Reno had not been cancelled. Of course, Lindsey was more than worth the wait!

Royce Hall wasn't full. The balcony was sparsely seated. There was a block of empty seats in the second row center. To be a Los Angeles crowd, it didn't really have that industry vibe. Perhaps all the glitterati were at the Saban show and decided not to return to see him again so soon. I saw Kristen, Lee Lee and Will. Both of the kids had a friend with them. When they come out, that's my cue that the show is about to start.

I avoided listening to the You Tube performances, so this was the first time I'd heard this Go Insane. He draws it out like he does NGBA and I think that takes the song out of the song. The pauses, the whispering, the stretching of singing syllables and words . . . Stop the madness. Also, while I applaud a deviation from the Dance ritual that every Joe off the street has come to expect. I do think the dynamic duo of Go Insane and Big Love back to back adds an intensity to the show that can't be beat.

Lindsey's voice was in fine form. If I screamed as much as he does, I wouldn't even be able to talk without being hoarse, much less sing so powerfully through an entire set. He's truly a marvel.

Before he begins trouble he says, "as time goes by -- and a good deal of time has gone by . . ." which I found amusing. Of course, during the band introductions when Brett says that "some things get better with age," that was another reference to the passage of time for this man, but when he continues to perform with as much energy as he had 35 years ago, the aging doesn't seem credible, let alone relevant.

The critics have mentioned the anti-climatic closing. I also think it's a mistake to start off with UTS immediately after the band has entered.

After Tusk Lindsey says, "It's good to be home." Ha, good to be home singing a USC song on UCLA territory?

At the end of Stars are Crazy, he exhales deeply, "Hahhhh," evidencing the same apparent respiratory problems that waylaid the album version of She Smiled Sweetly.

When he introduces the band, he says that they are truly his brothers. Then, he yells, "My brother!" as he gets to each one of them. He says that putting things together for his solo work is a much more academic process than it is for Fleetwood Mac. He credits Brett for helping him do that. I'm not even sure what that means. Certainly though, when organizing new songs or weaving them into a setlist that takes more strategy, precision and thought than just deciding the sequence for playing Greatest Hits songs.

The audience swarmed the stage for GYOW, but when they were seated before that, it didn't seem to me like a sign of lethargy. I took it as attentiveness and I appreciate that. While I understand that the band is spurred by an enthusiastic dancing crowd, I see nothing wrong with rapt stillness. There's a certain oneness between audience and artist, when you can hear a pin drop.

Now, for the encore, I actually like Turn It On, I think the "you can fight you can pray, you can reach for the sky. You can heal someone's soul, you don't even know why" part is swift and surging enough to maintain the passion that GYOW stirred up.

I liked it at the end for Seeds We Sow when Lindsey said the meaning could be as vast as the world or as small as a single relationship.

In closing he said, "Los Angeles. This is my home. You are my home."

I don't know if we've ever discussed this before, but listening the famous Treason and the part about searching for her behind garden walls, I thought of Rappaccini's Daughter and RTTG.

Lindsey seemed to have a memory lapse during SWS. He was delayed on the line "medicine men have all gone spying."

The concert was great. I had a great time despite missing the first three songs (couldn't find Royce Hall-even with a GPS-) and got one of LB's guitar picks from the guitar tech after the show. Sorry to the fan who the usher had to kick out of my front row seat. Probably would have tried the same thing myself Had no trouble getting my camera and was able to take some hopefully stellar pixs. I'll post them once I get the film developed.

Interesting tidbit. When the band left the stage after GYOW two guys grabbed the set list and when Lindsey came back he was a tad upset because it also had the lyrics for "Turn It On" on it. He alerted his guitar tech who replaced it while the guys exchanged sheepish grins.

Can't wait for Palm Desert. This time I hope to catch the first three songs.

Lindsey gave us a three song encore ending with SWS and he was sweating bullets. Yes, he wore his signature leather jacket despite the 100 degree heat. Only in SoCal!

What a great show last night! Lindsey's voice sounded strong and his playing was as sharp as ever. I think what I remember most is how much he really seemed to be enjoying the audience (being "home"), especially about halfway through the show. I've seen LB a few times and I almost always hear, "You've been great!" to the audience, but he really seemed to be enjoying the audience last night and made references several times about that. I headed for the stage for Go Your Own Way and the rest of the show and I'm glad others did too. I grabbed his sweaty hand while he had it on the guitar for Go Your Own Way. He was grabbing/shaking people's hands, which I don't remember ever seeing him too much. I kind of wish he would change the lighting, though. It's distracting when those spotlights are hitting you in the face during different parts of the show. BRIGHT! Anyway, I enjoyed the show!! LB was spectacular!

Yes, the mirrored reflectors he's got in the back of the stage seem to make the light worse.

Maybe he thinks our hearing will be more keen if he blinds us.

It looked like he needed the lyrics to SWS at one point. I guess what's hard about "Turn It On" is that it's different each time. You don't know whether to fight or pray or die or hide. If the chorus words didn't change, maybe he wouldn't need help remembering it.

I saw you come in during Trouble. The only thing about that woman is that when you know you're in the wrong seat, just get up. Don't wait for the usher to come all the way down the row to call you out. Just get up when you see the true owner standing there, to make the switch as fast as possible.

Actually he does this quite a lot. He's shaken or slapped hands with me many times before including last night. Always a rush isn't it.

Yeah I noticed he forgot the lyrics to SWS so I started mouthing them to him hoping to get him back on track but he recovered quite nicely on his own though.

As for the fan in my seat, I told the usher before we even went into the theater that there would probably be someone in my seat so she said she would take care of it for me. Thank God because I don't like fighting with people.

I had a front row center seat a couple of years ago for a Timothy B. Schmit solo show in Sacramento where I was working the record companies P.R. table selling his CD Expando before the show. I didn't get a chance to get to my seat that night either until after the show started and rather than boot the person out of my seat, I found another front row seat (somewhat off-sides) and I sat in it rather than create a disturbance.

But yes you're right. If you know the seat is not yours and an usher is asking you for proof, don't play deaf, dumb and blind. That's so junior high.
