At some point in the Summer of 1980 I was lucky enough to attend a bonfire party in the woods with all the cool people from my neighborhood. Someone had brought a battery powered boombox and we had it tuned to some local FM radio station. All the standard rock hits of the day came on that night and they were ofcourse enjoyed by all. Stairway To Heaven, You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet, Pinball Wizard, The Joker, Layla and such. In the middle of all this classic rock they actually played Sister's Of The Moon which was the new single at that time. I nearly died right there in my shoes. That night interestingly enough, was the only time I can recall hearing that song on the radio.

Guess what.. Villavic is going to post another extract from Mick's book!!

Well I hope you find it interesting, cause it's from early 1980:

In January 1980, Stevie Nicks wrote me one of her rare notes, this one full of portents, news, and admonitions. After pointing out that Ted Kennedy had beaten President Jimmy Carter in the Iowa Democratic caucuses, that the Russians were moving slowly into Afghanistan, and that American hostages had been held in Teheran for seventyeight days, she noted: "It is a fearful time. Things are becoming less exciting and more real."

She also wrote that she had started work on her first solo album. "Recording has begun, and Rhiannon is afoot." Then she told me she had moved to a small house by the beach and that I was a cheap bastard, so she was sending the girls in our of lice an extra $250. Stevie signed the note "Katherine DeLongpre," one of her many pseudonyms of the period.

This was such a great era ~ before all the madness and everyone went off into their separate corners. Most of 1980 was spent on the infamous and grueling Tusk Tour. Interviews and photo sessions galore. This is what I think of (mostly) about 1980:

Ruth, thank you for the beautiful photos. One of them was new to me. I gotcha on a technicality here because this pic was taken in 1979.

John's hands seem to be gesturing as if he is playing an instrument. Cute, because they do look under stress in some of these pictures. Nice to see a shared laugh captured.

Villavic, I appreciate your excerpts from Mick's book. I picked up a little tension between Mick and Stevie from the excerpt. Wonder what their relationship status was in 1980?

Rhiannon is afoot - pffft!

The other part really made me laugh - good for her!
