Last week, SYW was at #43 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, and this week it slides just one notch to #44, with 29,536 copies sold, a 42% sales increase from last week. This week marks SYW's 9th week on the Top 200.
Judging by today's standards, seeing a 'veteran' act like the Mac hanging in this long is a testament to the success of this incarnation of the band. Hey, Madonna's new album is nowhere to be found, but the Mac hangs in. Say what you want about Madonna, but that's worth a mention. Plus, legends like Paul McCartney, Elton John, etc. can't keep a record in the Top 40 as long as Fleetwood Mac has done this time around. Does anyone have the complete chart history of SYW, possibly with units sold each week? I would appreciate this information if anyone has it. With the success of the tour a given, this album will probably be platinum by the end of the summer. Thoughts? |

I hope so, but I really think it hinges on a great single. Don't get me wrong, SYW is a good little ditty, but how many people would say it's their fave? As far as a radio-friendly song for the general public (not us megafans, lol) I think Thrown Down or Steal Your Heart Away would be better choices. Anyone else?

I feel if they released more singles, they'd have rainbows in their futures!

The source for hitsdailydouble has averaged an under reporting error of 7%. Add about 7% to the totals listed. Week 8 was about 23,000.

HitsDailyDouble is a great site, and gives a good indication on where the Billboard chart will look like - but remember it's NOT the data that's used to compile the Billboard chart. I'm not sure where the difference is with regards to the collection of sales - but if you'll notice there is usually a slight variation between the HDD numbers and Billboard numbers. For example, Luther opened at #1 on HDD, but the difference between it and Metallica is so close, Metallica may end up holding onto #1 on Billboard. We'll see.
As for the Mac - to have sold 550,000 or so copies in two months is an achievement for a veteran band - particularly is this market. I think the tour and "Say You Will" on the radio will keep them at a steady sales rate for the remainder of the summer. For them to top a million in sales by December would be fabulous. It probably is already platinum (it's based on units shipped to stores, not over-the-counter sales which HDD and Billboard uses to compile charts). Sure it's not the mega-platinum sales of years past - but who maintains that kind of pace? Madonna, anyone? |

even tho her new album is a flop and her most uninteresting effort in the last 10 years or so, i still wouldn't sign her off, no way. i just read she'll be coming here to town in 2 weeks or so to shoot a video for her next single.

Wow, thats great it still selling decently.
Yeah Madonna's album isn't very good and I like Madonna but it is worth a mention that they're outselling her in the US. Worldwide of course she'll outsell them hands down. Madonna will probably re-enter the top 50 if her new single Hollywood does well. If Hollywood does as poorly as American Life did then it'll be a different story. Also worth a mention is Annie Lennox debuted at #5 this week as well with her new album Bare. I HIGHLY recommend that you all buy it as her music is fantastic and so is her new album. Also, this is the highest debut she's ever had. Diva and Medusa didn't even get that high when they came out. Another vetran who's doing well. I hope her album stays steady in the charts as well as she deserves it!

I agree - I love Annie and her new disk is beautiful. I was thrilled to see her debut so high. Definately check that out.
And while we're on new CD's - look for Fountains of Wayne's new CD, Welcome Interstate Managers - sixteen 3-and-a-half-minute blasts of perfect guitar-pop music - with a little country and soul thrown in. |

Actually Say You Will MOVES UP!!!!
It's at #39 I think instead of 44!!!!!! While Madonna tumbles way down to the 90s!!! Do you think the single is helping things? How's it doing compared to Peacekeeper??

yeah, the album moved up 4 spots to #39. Pretty impressive that they are hanging in there, especially without a hit single (at least so far).
Thankfully, there are others who are familiar with Fountains of Wayne! One of the best bands out there. The first single from their new album "Stacey's Mom" is a classic already. Madonna hasn't made good music in a long time. |

. In any event, remixes are cheap, fun, and they certainly could not hurt FM in reaching a wider audience and in obtaining a No. 1 single.Food for Thought in case any big wigs are reading!!! ![]() |

I totally agree with you. It would be a VERY wise move for the band AND Warner Bros to commission some remixes for "Say You Will". They get a current DJ to do it (and not that HACK Victor Calderone) the clubs will eat it up. Stevie has a gay following, while nothing like Cher or Madonna she still get a #1 club hit with "Planets..." so I think they'd very much welcome a FM remix.
That would also give the album a little more of a high profile. Not a lot but positive exposure none-the-less. Maybe we should start mailing their website or someone to see if there are any plans? Never hurts I suppose.
